I hate people that use PROTIP:

You are not a pro and 9 times out of 10 the advice is fucking stupid.
Gamepro originally used it for stupid advice, as I understand it. For example...

PROTIP: PRESS F FOR FLASHLIGHT

1. Thread titles that start with "so."
2. "What say you" is starting to get to me.
3. "Is ________ the best ________ ever?" threads, particularly when you can tell the OP just happened to see something funny offhand and decide that it's the funniest/best thing they've ever seen but probably forget about a week later. "Is Queen the best band ever" would be fairly valid, since an argument could be made. "Is this 5 second clip of a cat rolling over the best Youtube clip ever?" is just silly.

Quoting images couple of posts down from each other with the tag still there. Delete the damn [img] tag damnit.[/QUOTE]No! The [img] tags must stay.

It shows that it's not just a link but a recently posted image.

[spoiler]Actually, I couldn't care less.[/spoiler]

Germany, Australia or Florida, for some reason Gaf believes that most absurd "news" stories come from one of those places.
Germany/Florida is taken from elsewhere. Australia was added to it.

Also, anybody who attempts to pick an argument, then attempts to take the higher road after already insulting your mother, your dog and your entire lineage up to four generations ago.

If I may continue this a bit, I for one don't understand this "habit". Why is it that we have a decent discussion going and it quickly degrades itself buy a few posts. Then poster(s) in question after acting like a child then tries to regain credibility? Really now? If you guys want to act/be taken seriously just do so from the beginning.

I like you.

I am fairly sure vB supports a version of quoting images using [qimg] tags or something where it simply turns the image into a clickable link when quoted. Beats the hell out of people quoting 1000px high images. :/

Whenever I see a thread title that includes "_________thread of ___________" The second part usually has an annoying in-joke that comes off as being really douchy.

Anybody notice that sometimes in an offtopic thread whenever somebody mentions that they have had sex there will always be a handful of members that will call them out for bragging? I just wanted to throw that in. Can be quite funny and annoying to read.

I just hate it when people abuse memes.

Topic: Analysts discover that Maryland has a better standard of living than Virginia.
Poster: *AIRPLANE GIF*

Poster: Instead of 35 minutes, it took 33 minutes.
Poster: *SHAMALAN GIF*

Poster: I disagree for these reasons.....
Poster: *U MAD GIF*

So how many people are actually going to try and change their posting habits as a result of the things people have complained about in this thread? I know I saw a couple of things that applied to me, so I'll definitely be trying to post differently, we'll see how long I last.

Anything that starts 'ITT', these generalisations are always useless and way off base.
Anything that ends '/thread' especially when '/thread' is in response to a comment that clearly didn't end the thread.
People that don't capitalise 'I'.
Single Smiley replies.

Glad I got that off my chest.
Three pages on and it still neatly summarises my feelings. Though I don't really get annoyed. I'm more irked, you know?

I only hate it when people try to use them without even the attempt to be witty or clever. They just post it as a stimulus response.

Same for people who think a FARK-like random copy/paste constitutes a hilarious photoshop.

I doubt it, most of the time people who do these things are the ones who aren't around often or aren't bothered enough by beating a dead horse to begin with.

Posting from the top puts the emphasis where it belongs, and it's an easier read especially as people love to quote blocks of text.

Anyway, my list:

1) People who have absolutely nothing to say, so they post a smiley or "this" or a picture.
Use your words, and if you can't, stick to Sesame Street.
2) When people post links to videos and don't mention what the video is.
3) When people post NSFW stuff with the "not safe" tag thinking it absolves them of responsibility. Keep your gross junk off gaming age. There are other places for that, and some of us like being able to read gaming age in public or at work.
4) Just about any post in a medical-related thread. The correct answer is to go see a medical professional and do not ask posters on a game message board. One guy, I swear, was coughing up blood and had the stones to ask if he should go to the emergency room to seek treatment.

geez, I forgot about that. It's been a while since I've looked at that mag. Still hate it though.

I'm definitely guilty of back and forth quoting, though I don't think I will ever bother to move the discussion to PMs considering it usually involves three or more people.

I agree, the whole "I'm posting in this thread because it's going to be a legendary GAF thread!" is annoying as fuck.

Just enjoy the joke for what it is, no need to beat it to death with "LOLZ WE R ALL SO FUNNY!" comments.
This is so true. All the "Oh, GAF!" "Never change, GAF!" junk is worthless and obnoxiously self-congratulatory. I think some people never stop being excited about having been accepted as members.

And preemptive posting is probably the worst possible thing. "In before" or "Here come" or "ITT" or anything like that. Let the damn thread play out, Nostradamus. Nobody's impressed with your clairvoyance.

I hate it when I post in a thread, and someone likes something I say and then PMs me and we chat a bit back and forth, and then refuses to send me a picture of their dick. Motherfucker if you don't want to show me your junk why bother PMing me!

That's even worse :lol

As for my post earlier, I am definitely guilty of using the Shamalan (sp?) Twist meme more than once but I ONLY use it if I legitimately think that its use is kinda clever (or that the thread didn't scream "THE *TWIST* MEME WILL PROBABLY BE POSTED")....not for any random paradox. Overusing things really kills the effect....for me, at least.

Also, I hate it when people all jump on an innocuous poster, piling on the "thread backfire" bandwagon. It's so annoying. But this is the Internet and people will be like that....

There are many that bug me. But I'm sure I've bugged people too, so griping about it won't help.

Just so you know, I wasn't talking about you in my post. You've always been more than generous with the cock pics, and I do appreciate it.

I don't like people typing their thread's title Like This All The Fucking Time. Seriously You Hold Shift At Every First Letter Of Every Single Word? What The Fuck?

it's all part of what i'm dubbing "The NeoGAF Seriousness"

Actually, every word in a title being capitalized is what vbulletin does when you originally typed it in allcaps.

OMG WHERE ARE MY SEDATIVES -> Omg Where Are My Sedatives

Unless we have that disabled, I'd have to check.

for some reason nothing gets me worse than a misplaced comma. seeing the "how often do you drink" thread title reminded me of this, despite its lack of a comma.

it would be "how often, do you drink?"

i've seen it a few times, not naming names.

Unless we have that disabled, I'd have to check.

I'LL CHECK

actually nvm

The worst offenders aren't people who do it as a joke, but rather the people who, in a movie about games/movies/actors with X quality, will post just a picture and nothing else. For instance:

ITT: Manliest characters in gaming!

*Pic of random character from FPS/RPG #3352*

Drives me nuts.

When someone quoted that Naughty Dog guy who said that watching Crash Bandicoot have games done by other developers, it was like watching your daughter do porn and somebody posted a pic of Laurence Fishburne screaming in the Matrix, it was funny.

That's the difference.

http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=23425496&postcount=24

:D you remembered! <3

- People going on vacation and making a seperate thread whenever they move into a new city.

- Most NeoGAF meme's that spawn elsewhere, but get beaten to death here, and 'improved upon'.

- Avatar quoting that's not funny.

- People ass-kissing mods. Agreeing with BlackAce or Dragona is not gonna get you a red name any sooner.

The youtube thing doesn't bother me. Most of the time, it's the surprise of the video posted that helps the joke they're trying to make.

Personally, when people quote something someone else has said and put "." after it. Should be a bannable offense. And the assholes who quote 6 pages worth of images.

needs to be backed up with examples

IF YOU HAVE THE BALLS

also yeah quoting a gif should be bannable

The truth hurts. I paid for my right to be better than you. i intend to ride it for all its worth.
joking aside. I usually do it in a sarcastic tone.

Thread topics:

"So gaf, this weekend...."

"Wow, look like I learned..."

"Inconsequential introductory statement having nothing to do with any topic dot dot dot"

GAH

Girl-Age threads are the only thing that really suck. Nobody cares that you're in the friend zone or fuck zone or you love this girl who's banging your best friend who you bang. Or at least I don't.

People who post threads about some famous person, and can't be bothered to give a description of who they are, or at the very least, post a picture. I realize it's a simple google search away, but if you're going to make a thread remembering someone's death, a picture should be mandatory.

Now I definitely disagree with this.

Why type out the exact same thought when it has already been posted? Plus, I'm usually posting with my phone so by doing the "." it saves time and it shows that I am on the same page mentally with another gaf member. It's almost creepy how many times gaffers have typed out stuff that I was thinking in my head just moments before.
