This one bugs me too. Great. Congrats. You dismissed any sort of actual discussion by acting like a smug jackass, and in the process proved yourself to be incapable of forming any sort of opinion unrelated to an internet meme. It is also usually posted by the biggest fanboy of the objection of discussion who simply can't handle differing opinions.
Backseat mods. People that pretty much snitch on anyone that does anything against the rules. If someone is breaking the rules, let the mods catch it and deal w/ it accordingly. No need to point it out.
People that lurk the internet 24/7 and post "old" on every new thread.

I try to point out bannable stuff not because I want to be a dick but because I want to let them know it could get them banned and I genuinely hope they can avoid it with a quick edit. I tend to do it for obscure stuff that people may not know about. Sometimes mods will throw out a random "ok this is bannable from now on" in some thread and not bother to put it in the faq. I feel it's the nice thing to do to give people a heads up.
Anybody who PM's a mod trying to get someone banned though is a fucking tool.
I hate it so much when people can't tag correctly, like this:
So that's when I realized towards the end of the game that [spoile]r Ryan was the killer all along, and sure enough, I was right! And the way he killed the main guy at the end? Crazy.[/spoiler]
that spoiler tag things that aren't spoilers[/.spoiler], like game site review scores. Although I don't mind it when someone does it to highlight the punchline of their joke or something, so whatever.
It always annoys me when people go, "THIS DIDN'T NEED A THREAD" about anything with disturbing news. If you don't like it, don't click on it. Maybe some people like learning about news they haven't heard before.
Although, I think girl-age threads are idiotic and usually nothing but a delusional cock-tale about the poster's non-existent sex life. But I guess they're good for a laugh.

There's a thin line though. Most stuff is banned for a good reason, and if people post offensive stuff I'm gonna call them out and I will likely say "hey, this is bannable". Never thought of it as inapropriate.
One more thing that's annoying are those stupid forum nomads. People that just leave a post - or even worse: a topic - and never return. You dont have to monitor your posts for hours, but at least for a couple of minutes. Some people might want to reply to you after all. Those are the same people that don't realize their links or tags are broken.
In general, I dislike it when cynical poster X has been around too long, and has grown bored of certain topics that have been discussed frequently, but still feels compelled to enter the thread and let everyone know that, though he/she has no interest in contributing meaningfully to this thread, rest assured that they've been in these very similar trenches in the past. Specifically, I hate when people jump ahead in the script they assume the thread is following before the thread has even taken that turn. "In before (insert predicted response)" or "Oh God, another thread where group x and group y argue back and forth using these arguments" prediction responses really annoy me. If you think the topic is old news and should best be left alone, why bring attention to it by bumping it to the top with your token reply?
Now, this thread isn't about grammar or anything related to spelling etc. Rather, this is about things people do in threads that annoy you regardless of content. For instance:
- Posting links (especially YouTube videos) without any indication at all of what the link is about or in the very least any hint as to how it relates to the discussion. If I'm at work or reading GAF from my phone, your post may as well be invisible. Well done, you just wasted your time searching for and posting a link I'm never going to follow.
- Posting movie stills, game screenshots, album art or photos of people and nothing else, as though I'm meant to just know from sight what it is you're referencing. The Internet is a big place filled with many people who all like and are exposed to different things. Don't assume that your cultural touchstone is shared by everyone else or that everyone rushes out to see movies/play games/buy albums day one. This is especially bad in older threads where pictures get deleted by imagehosts. A label is all that's needed.
- Sign-offs. Finish off every post with a delightful catch-phrase on a forum where nobody else does it and I can guarantee that you will look like an idiot or a poser. Perhaps both.
- Quoting 10 Meg GIFs. People read forums from their phones and other low-RAM devices. Be kind and snip out the image tags.
- The jokes about GAF Gold. Stop it. It was stupid when 4Chan did it. When GAF does it, it's just sad.
I agree with this. I'll take it a step further though... I hate when someone asks "whats your favorite movie/book/album" or whatever and every reply is just an image. What a boring conversation it makes.
Haters Gonna Hate really drives me up the wall. These days it's constantly used as a means of defending something you like without paying attention to or addressing the points made by the other person. It's basically saying "who gives a shit about your opinion, your wrong and i'm too fucking lazy to reply to your post, so here's a smug-ass picture of someone in mid-step instead."
Deal With It is pretty similar, though when used right it's fine. When used wrong it's basically saying "no one gives a shit about your opinion, and i have nothing to add to this conversation but i want to look cool so here's a picture of a dog with sunglasses."
Nostalgia glasses are another huge one for me as well. I love all types of games, and there are classics from years back that I'm still discovering now. So to be told that I'm factually incorrect for preferring some older games against their modern counterparts is one of the most ignorant and genuinely annoying things on this forum.
I don't even understand why people do the image thing. It's more of a hassle than it's worth.

I once spoiler tagged a wall of text rebuttal to somebody's stupid argument. His argument was both offensively stupid and stupidly offensive and it needed to be shut down.
Making him highlight all the text in order to receive his education was like giving him the backhand slap over the Internet he deserved.
Not entirely serious here
.
Also, I *like* Haters Gonna Hate and feel it has it's place.
In any discussion of TV shows, you'll see people crapping all over something like Glee with no cogent arguments as to why other than it being "sh*t" and variations of "admitting to enjoying this would threaten my fragile and insecure masculinity". I'd have no problem with people using HGH in that context because there's no arguing with people when they're in that frame of mind.
Buy yeah, if someone posted a proper critique explaining in detail as to why they dislike something, its use is inappropriate and annoying.

Warning someone is not bad in principle but I sometimes see 10+ people quoting something and saying "GOODBYE LOL" or saying the same "this is possibly ban worthy" comment.
Best example I can come up with is the stories about female drivers, someone doesn't know that you can get banned for the misogynistic comment but all the other posters decide that they'd love to quote it and call a lot of attention to it.
Isn't complaining about backseat modding just backseat modding themselves?

While a child (or any human) being harmed is terrible, is your worldview so myopic that any isolated event completely overrides the good that humans are doing everyday? Or has being in a basement made you oblivious to the good humans do? Enough with being "fuck humanity" drama queens whenever a terrible news story pops up.
when people post sentences without punctuation or capitalisation
It's lazy as fuck and frustrates me when I read it. The other day we had a 'let's honor this guy' thread where they couldn't even capitalise his name. It doesn't make you look cool or nonchalant - you look like an uneducated jackass.
E: oh, and diverting threads by jumping on other people for what they post. The Boston bombing thread was pathetic because posters were just tearing each other apart. It's the one thing GAF does worse than any other forum - everyone here has this unbelievable level of self-righteousness which means they simply cannot stand for anything different to them (that's not outside the forums rules).
I hate speculation threads, they're pointless in my opinion:
'Do you think Sega will announce a new console at E3?'
'If the Xbox 360 never existed what would gaming look like now?'
'How many players will Call of Duty Ghosts support?'
'Do you think.....?'
We don't know and if you really wanted to know, why don't you just e-mail the companies directly?
People who quote a post by only replying with a single word like "Yup." "Nope." "Thanks." "This.", the guy they quoted didn't ask a question anything... Someone can just post an opinion and some guy come out of nowhere and say "Nope."
Example :
-----------------
BLABLABLABLABLABLABLA This is what I had to say about the subject.
Replying to posts with "This." It contributes nothing to the discussion. If you absolutely need to let everyone to know you agree with someone, just say "I agree" and expand on their points.
Also, using the othe word "dat" when describing something. It's not funny in the slightest.
