Power Rangers Movie suits revealed

Even just removing the silly tron lines improves it greatly.

I expanded some white, removed some black and also made his head a touch smaller. and somewhat evened up the texture between different parts of the suite.

Big improvement. I really don't care for the energy lines and overly cluttered look. I sure as hell am not putting the original costumes on any kind of pedestal, but this just looks more cohesive.

Yeah it's almost like there might be a 'my childhood' in this thread too.

gasp, there is!

Yeah, because they deviated greatly from the source material. Are you telling me that those exact same people would be bitching if they went with suits much closer to the originals?

How do the galaxies work

isn't that their chest

I get the suits are alien in design but does becoming a power ranger mean you get special beam cannoned through the chest so they can put their little galaxies in em?

I think that the energy-thing in their chest is the Rangers supposedly being transformed into energy beings and inhabiting these "suits" or some shit.

This is about as good I as ever expected a Power Rangers movie in 2016 to look like, so it's actually not even close to as bad as it could've been.

Even the original Power Rangers movie gave them armor, and this definitely look like a combo of every "armored" hero look of the past several years mixed with the original Power Rangers.

It's too busy, I agree, and looks very similar to a lot of Deviantart concepts I've seen, but it could certainly be worse.

I was actually rather surprised how much I liked the Death Battle version of the Green Ranger look, though, and I wish they'd gone that direction. A nice blend of a few embellishments but keeping it streamlined.

That Green Ranger outfit is pretty cool. was something like that really that hard?

What they should've done is just abandon Zyuranger look entirely and make up their own suits. Nobody would've honestly cared that much and it could allow for better itnernal consistency, instead of them trying to add tacticool where it doesn't work and then attempting to fix the inconsistencies.

They should've gone with the superior Jetman costumes instead.

I agree, but it was never going to happen. It's aimed at a younger audience, but they probably hope the callbacks will pull in some older fans.

Which is why I'm confused why they gave the girls wedges and big huge boob armor.

Kimberly and Trini did just fine without those.

They're a bit busy, but I'm okay with it.

I hope the Zords don't look too Bayformers-ish, but I'm expecting them to look like Bayformers.

T&A is a good way to draw in a few kids who might think they're too old for this but maybe they'll give this a chance in case they can get something to add to their nascent spank-banks.

"How can anyone take heroes in these seriously, I thought we were going for realism here."

Believe.

The main thing that bothers me here are the heels and very obvious breasts on the armor. Other than that, they're just really unappealing.

I'm more concerned with how the actors (or stunt people) will be able to move in them. They look bulky and unwieldy and cumbersome to move around in.

It might be hard to do some actual gymnastics or martial arts moves in those things.

Then again, I said the same thing about the original movie suits.

They could just use CGI.

I'm not the biggest Power Rangers fan, but I think those costumes are meh. They look way too over designed.

I actually like how alien they look, and the actual colors chosen look good. But they look too busy. Even Iron Man's suit, in all its technical whiz-bangery, is still sleek, with minimal lines and superfluous details.

I also think they should have bumped up the white highlights in the suit. As weird as it is, the original TV show designs use the color white to unify the team as a whole, despite them all having different colors. It's so that when they are all standing next to one another, they look like they're part of the same unit. This redesign has a kind of silver coloring that doesn't pop in the lighting seen in the picture, and it kind of blends into the other colors, making them look like a giant mass of color, instead of breaking it up into neat blocks of white/color.

It definitely looks Power Rangers, but it also looks like its trying too hard to be "edgy" or "dark." Ironically enough, the suit designs in that grim-dark Power Rangers short film look much, much better. As someone who had absolutely no interest in this movie anyway, I guess my thoughts don't really mean much, but as an artist, I can say I'm not feeling the designs personally. There's just way too much going on.

Look at the designs of other costumes, from Spider-Man, to Iron Man, to Ant-Man, Batman, and Superman (Man of Steel and BvS), and compare them to the designs seen here. There is an elegance and simpleness to their designs in the broad strokes. It's not until you get up close and start to observe them that you can see more detail. Black Panther's costume has been mentioned here, and it's a great example. From a distance, the costume appears simple and plain, but when you get up close, it's beautifully ornate. These Ranger suits have deely-bobs on top of deely-bobs, and forms that don't look visually appealing or flow into each other well. I'm interested in seeing how it plays on film, however, though I'm honestly not expecting any real changes when my issues with the costume have nothing to do with lighting and atmosphere, but pure visual aesthetic and design.

That was not going to happen.
Too many people have no idea there's Power Rangers after the first team. 1993 is what they know.

the older people that they are trying to pull in, sure, but what about the younger crowd that they want to appeal to?

I understand this direction. They look kinda cool, and they're going after that modern "mature" audience (lol).

Bummed they probably have to all wear greenscreen zentai suits instead of actual costumes. Kind of a loss.

Agh dammit what the fuck I take it all back.

boob armor.

shit. this stupid patriarchal trope'll never die.

EDIT: FUCKING HEELS?!?!?!?

I am generally OK with changes and differences in new interpretations. They aren't really making the movie for me, and if I want the original then I'll just watch the original.

I like the new Rita...sort of. It's different, and sometimes different is good. OK, it isn't classic Rita but it'll do.

I am not entirely sure about new suits...I grew up with Power Rangers and I loved the original costumes. The first movie was a massive improvement in my eyes and it served to make the Power Rangers much darker, cooler and more mature. 10 year old me loved that movie so so much. I am not entirely sure I will make a trip to the cinema to see the new movie though...this interpretation reminds me a little too much of the Green Lantern movie.

I really like that the chest diamonds show that they're made of energy.

The sparks they used to have when they got hit is actually Power Rangers blood!

the zords are probably just gonna look like these dinobots.
