it happens a few times but they conveniently get it back even when they don't really grow that much or deserve it

It would've been daring, But Zhane, Carlos and TJ are all more capable than Andros when it comes to leadership. And Zhane is the best fighter out of all of them. Andros shouldn't be in any position to command at all

but the real reason is you have to go by the sentai footage
