PR: Nintendo has more than 65.3 million Wii Remote controllers in U.S. Players' hands

captmcblack said:
All of these remote numbers are great, but what about getting the Wii hardware itself to sell?

I assume you mean for sales to rebound/pick-up because I mean they have got the Wii hardware to sell... quite well actually

so the console to controller ratio on the wii is higher then 2.. how is it on other consoles? do we have any comparison to lets say the dualshock 3 or the x360 controller ?

Not really a fair comparison. Wii has loads of games that are targeted for 4 people compared to 360/ps3. Not even enough games for two players on those consoles if you ask me.

i have 3 360 controllers and 2 wiimotes (now 3 due to wiiparty actually. but that one im going to sell.)

So, therefore, its also not fair to compare third party software sales on Wii to third party software on 360/PS3, because 360/PS3 have far more games targeting "rational" gamers, whereas Wii has 3rd party software designed for feces eating mongrels?

Same argument, right?

My GF and I recently mined our wii-motes for batteries, for use in our electric tooth brushes. By recently, I mean over a year ago. So I guess briefly, they qualified as being in our hands.

I wish Nintendo would move to HD already.

Yeah, this.

The Wii was destroying everything and everyone until recently; it has started to slip behind the new 360 S and running very close alongside the slim PS3. It seems to lack momentum (primarily because there's no hot new game pushing it forward, and hell...maybe because a ton of people already have a Wii and have no reason to upgrade?) right now...

... Rational gamers? Sure if you want I guess.

Its lifetime is slowing down, as is usual for a console. The 360 is the odd console here, not the Wii. Also, yeah, take the # of Wii units sold in America and compare that to the # of households here, and you'll notice the damn system is already everywhere.

A poster who got banned for his annoyingly incessant doom and gloom about Nintendo and their sales.

He's not banned. He just stopped posting. And, no, he was not incessantly doom and gloom about Nintendo and their sales. He was extremely cynical toward any third-party efforts on the Wii, and, unfortunately, it often turned out to be the case. :(

farnham is at least an order of magnitude beyond Link's statements, and much less based in reality, as well.

Like I said in the MC thread, I liked Link's position better.

if you want to play 4 player on kinect you only need 150 dollars... (it does 4 player right ?)
Kinect is currently 2 player only, unless something has suddenly changed that I wasn't aware of.

I think you need to sit down. I've got some bad news... and really, this is only the beginning...

;)

But how many nunchucks were sold? I have four Wiimotes but only two nunchucks. And damn, I gotta buy the MotionPlus thing before Zelda comes out.

Wow that went over my head at first. :lol

In any case, I don't think you can actually pay to make Kinect a 4-player experience so its really irrelevant.

Sell one of your controllers and get this.

.
The NPD Group also reports that Nintendo has sold an additional 52.9 million Nunchuk™ controllers in the United States through the end of September.

2nd 360, 2nd Kinect, 2 subscriptions to Xbox Live Gold, and two copies of an online multiplayer game.
This will probably end up on a Sony comparison chart about four-player gaming at some point.

When you factor everything in the Wii is still the cheapest of the three for simultaneous 4-player play. Weather that matters or not, or if two player is good enough, remains to be seen...

We'll find out soon after Goldeneye launches.

Sales threads are so funny. You have all this data over a long period of time for the wii justy embarrasing the other consoles and people bring up how in the last three months it has been below the competition. I don't think nintendo would trade the past few years of sales to be on top this whole year.

I too am more interested in M+ data. That would be a better comparison to Move.

M+ data can't be compared to Move because we don't have actual Move sales data, just their shipment numbers.

It's funny how they listed as their sample games:

-Wii Sports Resort, where most games are two-player simultaneous (and/or four alternating). The only four-player simultaneous game is kayaking I think.
-Super Mario Galaxy 2, which is single-player for the most part (co-op is not really co-op)
-Metroid, which is entirely single-player

That's a PR. Many medias will repost it and this is extra advertising for titles that actually are in stores.

I wonder how many people like myself only own 1?

I use my GC controllers for Mario Kart and SSBB.

I do plan on eventually getting a 2nd once the controllers with motion + inside come out.

Yeah, since this is a pretty arbitrary number, not round or anything, this is quite clearly a direct response to the Move sales and related press releases.

65.3 million sold. There's your benchmark. 1 million shipped (with an estimated 300-500k sold so far, if I remember Pachter correctly?) means only 64.8 million to go.

By this point motion plus has likely passed 20 million units and that will jump alot when the Wiimote+ is the only option available

How about the Mario Collection disc Nintendo...

they probably figured out that selling a 17 year old SNES rom in a disc would hurt their image more.
it's not like the extras are that good either.

Wii for one is sadder than pancakes for one. Can I donate one of my Wiimotes to a charity for lonely Wii players?
you can give one to me!

As of August 2007, this is what we had:

I can't put my fingers on the spreadsheet at this moment (I think it must be on an old computer somewhere), but maybe someone can estimate from the pie pieces. Maybe someone estimated it in the Aug 2007 NPD thread here?

Anyway, it was before I came to GAF regularly (even though I'd had an account for a long time)...

Edit: For what it's worth, the NPD Group won't give out ANY accessory figures at all. The only way I got to do that graph above for the Aug 07 NPD article (at Next-gen.biz back then) was if I didn't give out hard figures, as I recall. That's why the percentages aren't labeled...[/QUOTE]

Wow. How does a household have 1/5 of a Wiimote?

Yeah you are right I was forgetting the fact all new Wii consoles also come with Motion + attachments. Likely 30-40 million motion plus for sure
