Pre-E3: Will there be GAF DC++ hub? and other burning questions...

Seth C said:
Haha...who you looking at?

I still own the domain name we used last year. If we could find a host to allow unlimited/unlimited I'd love to setup the site again. The former host blacklisted me, then changed their hosting plans after we hit them up for almost a terabyte in 3 days.

aww man that is hilarious :lol :lol

The best part is that, on the morning of the third day of E3 when the site was shut down, I actually went to their online chat tech support to question why the site was down. Obviously I knew, but it was fun having them explain the situation. "Sir, your site has used 978GB of bandwidth in 3 days."

who is gonna be this years victim?? :lol :D

I'm having trouble finding a victim this year. That's the problem. If GAF can find one, we'll abuse them.

what criteria are you looking for in a host? so i know what to look for

They need to offer an "unlimited" bandwidth package as well as either unlimited space or at least 50GB. I understand no hosting package is truly unlimited, but that's the fun of it. So long as they will only shut the site down (and not bill me for excess bandwidth) it's a game of seeing if we can keep the site up for the full 3 days. Anything after that is bonus.

I can't connect to any hubs. =/ Probably school network. Tips? Or should I get a new version?
From the FAQ

University blocking DC++
Blocking and Throttling
Many Universities have policies that limit the usage of peer to peer applications by students and employees. Typically, these policies block or limit the amount of bandwidth that p2p applications can use, and are enforced by employing solutions from Packeteer , NetLogic Microsystems , or a similar company. This software/hardware solution has the ability to look into a TCP packet, determine what class of application created it, then throttle or block it accordingly.

If you're behind such a block, please learn to live with it. Circumventing the block by proxying is detectable, is probably against your AUP, is technically difficult, and impossible to do without help from someone outside the firewall.

Network Address Translation
Other schools might have their network behind a NAT in which case an active connection is impossible. If you're inside a NAT, the IP reported by your computer will be in one of the non-routable IP ranges. In this case, try passive mode.

If you cannot connect to DC hubs or cannot transfer files in passive mode, the above advice about proxying applies.

Port Blocking
A few schools use simple port blocking, where common ports used by DC++ and other p2p applications are blocked. DC++ uses a wide range of ports for outgoing traffic and incoming traffic by default. If the school blocks port 411 outgoing connections, then that effectively cuts you off from all DC hubs since that is the default hub port. Hub lists contain the full address of many hubs and those that run on non-standard ports (i.e. hub.example.com:1411) may work.

If you appear to be completely blocked from the DC network, the above advice applies.

If GAF setas up an FTP (looks at Seth), I will edit the info. Also If xboxyde.com want to run the tracker again.
Yeah sure if people want me to put the tracker back online I'll do it (using the gamesmediamirror.com domain so people don't complain :p).
I'll host all non watermarked videos about Xbox/Xbox 360 games on the main xboxyde.com site (I now have 3 direct download servers ready to roll for E3, plus the bittorrent seed), but I'd be happy to help spreading anything else (of course anything from a pay site like IGN won't do)

I don't think we can do the website anymore guys. GAF is kinda high profile now for some reason and I don't think IGN/Gamespot would be too happy with the Complete and Insider content we whore around.

He, their agreement is quite clear :
5. DISK SPACE USAGE
The web hosting customer shall not use the provided disk space for anything other than files associated directly with the web site hosted with HotSpot/818Hosting. If customer abuses the unlimited disk space allowance by using disk space for other purposes not associated directly with the web site, HotSpot/818Hosting, at it's sole discretion, may assess additional charges, discontinue service, terminate this agreement, or delete the web hosting customer's content. In the event that HotSpot/818Hosting elects to take such action, the web hosting customer shall not be entitled to a refund of any fees paid in advance of such corrective action.

6. BANDWIDTH
The web hosting customer shall not use the allowed bandwidth for anything other than bandwidth associated directly with the web site hosted on the HotSpot/818Hosting network. If customer abuses the unlimited bandwidth allowance by using bandwidth for other purposes not associated directly with the web site, HotSpot/818Hosting, at it's sole discretion, may asses additional charges of $1 per 1GB a month, discontinue service, terminate this agreement, or delete the web hosting customer's content. In the event that HotSpot/818Hosting elects to take such action, the web hosting customer shall not be entitled to a refund of any fees paid in advance of such corrective action.
I don't think hosting videos there would be a good idea ;)

good catch, we dont want seth going broke :lol .

do you have any idea when you will have the tracker up and running?

Do you guys suppose GAF's E32004 stunt caused service agreement changes throughout the whole ISP community? :lol

Do I need to forward ports for DC++?

I set the TCP to 4010 in DC++ and forwarded that port on my router, but I still can't view peoples file lists. :lol

torrent tracker for e3 stuff would rock
hopefully we get a kind volunteer to set one up by the time e3 rolls around.
I setup a torrent already, where anyone can upload
It's pretty damn ugly, but it works, i'll do some cosmetic changes on the weekend.
www.titaniumtorrents.com

titaniutorrents.jpg

Someone made this awesome banner

There was even a thread about the e3 torrents
http://209.59.175.58/showthread.php?t=42926
(Please sticky when E3 comes around)
Currently V0.4

After going through many trackers and making many revisions I've decided on the final software to use for the tracker. At first I just used very simple software because I only thought i would want this tracker for E3, but they i realized the usefullness of it and decided I want this tracker to be open all year for everyone to use. basically I'm finished with all the major revisions i had to make the software and It's open to public for uploading. It is basically in beta mode but i don't want it breaking on E3 so try and break it now. Yes i'm asking you to try and break it.

www.titaniumtorrents.com (Would be very greatfull if someone made a new banner preferably the same width and height as the current banner )

You can upload anonymously or become a member.
I will add a tutorial as to how to make .torrent files but if you do know how to make it then don't hesitate. You use this tracker for anything, demos, movies, trailer, movie trailers. The tracker is open to the public for anyones use, they don't have to be a member of GAF.
The announce tracker is http://www.titaniumforums.com/tracker/announce.php

edit:// the torrent doesn't show up on the page until it gets the first seeder., this is an anti spam measure. You must use the .torrent you uploaded to become a seeder and once you connect to the tracker it will show up on the page.

Rules:
No copyright shit. Yes porn is copyright.

What can't we share? ( i have a miles davis album in temporarily 'til i get e3 stuff )

i'm sure there is really nothing we can't share, but majority of it will be to share videos and such for e3.

i only have one thing shared

I've done my yearly DC++ install.

I still can't get it to work in active mode, even though I've got my ports forwarded :(

Mini tutorial for router users

You have to forward UDP and TCP ports
then go into settings -> connections settings ->choose active
The enter your WAN IP and the TCP and UDP ports you forwarded.

It's that easy, the WAN IP might need to be updated every now and then.

Thanks for setting up the DC++ hub Society. I have fond memories from the hub last year... actually I think 2 years ago was the best because I didn't have to work and could just sit at home and watch all the news come rolling in :p

I hope there's another Zelda moment at this E3.

That was great. :D

Ahaha that was so awesome. Nintendo conference was awesome.

Awesome, this is great. I'm on the DC++ hub now. Thanks for hosting. Can someone post the URLs for the BT torrents in the opening splash message of the DC Hub? That would rock.

That is what I set up that message bot for.

Commands:

+torrent(To Add a torrent)
This procedure I describe is for Azureus, but it's the mostly same for all clients :
- file / create a torrent
- use external tracker
- annouce url : http://www.titaniumforums.com/tracker/announce.php
- single or directory depending on what you want to share
- Put a small description of the content
- choose the file or directory
- auto
- finish
- use -add the add the url to Torrent Bot, please label the torrent with name of game and source

(I have to change the tracker url. Can someone tell me if it is still xboxdye?)

+torrentbot (how to add and read messages)
-read Read important info and torrent urls
-add Add a msg to the board
(Please label it with source i.e. GSC/IGN/gamers.com)
-remove Remove your msg
syntax -remove <msg>

This also works for movies.

The only difference is that instead of -read, it is +read, and +add.

I guess not, since gamepro seems very agressive about putting his torrent forum on the front line. More power to him.

Since this was already bumped. I made a quick page to keep track of stats for this e3, since I love stats. The only use it serves to normal people is an inaccurate countdown. If someone can post the conf times, I can update them.
