Prediction: Retro will not release another game for the Wii

Maybe not for Wii, but I know for a fact they are working on something right now.
Really?

We all thought they were playing Wrath of the Lich King, Gabe Newell style

"After finishing Geist more or less in 2004, they thought to have Nintendos’ full support and started an ambitious Wii title. [...] Ongoing delays and quality issues forced Nintendo to cancel the project”. The only thing that remains from this project, is a series of target renders from the 3D Studio Max prototype of the game and some real screenshots that do not look nearly as good."

Oh, that doesn't look to grand . . . not too grand at all. >.>

I have heard nothing recently about a new game from Developer X. That means they are in trouble or are waiting until the next generation of consoles!

I have heard nothing recently about a previously announced game from Developer Y! That game must be canceled or having a troubled development!

Actually, I take as fact that they're doing something since MP3. I'm more inclined to exclude DS development since they're so good with GC & GC-modified (aka Wii) engines.

I'm reversing the question to you: why not?

it would be kinda nutty to not do a wii game again. it prints monies, ect

actually i'm thinking their silence may lend credence to the zelda rumor, though all in all i think it won't happen.

Based on the lack of solid news, updates, leaks, and the outflow of key players from the team. This and other disturbing happenings bears all the signs of Rare Part 2, and I am willing to be punished in the event that I am wrong --- which I am not, but I sincerely hope that I am.

PS: Wii-Ware titles don't count!

Is anyone else in agreement?
Red Ink Rick says wtf?

They did some DS prototyping after MP2 and MP3 ;)

Prediction: Nintendo will not release another game

Ever

Also said: "If Nintendo can not release a (hardcore) game, it will."
Corollary: "If Nintendo can translate a dream, hobby, activity, or whatever in a cheap electronic form, it will. It will be called innovation and will be directed towards the new, non-nerdy and expanded market."

Yes. See Monster for reference. All we know is that they are working on something, since 2006, but we have absolutely no idea what it is. Same thing for Fuse, not to mention Nintendos Japanese studios. No news is good news when it comes to Nintendo.

Umm see Nintendo's history for the past 20 years. They are always secretive and always have been. I don't know why everyone all of a sudden expect Nintendo to spill their guts on everything they do.

Was it confirmed that Retro has been working on the Prime and Echoes ports for Wii? If so, that'd go a long way to explaining the depature of Pacini and co. Retro must be pretty tired of working on Metroid, as good as the franchise is.

That's the current line of thought. I guess we'll find out how true it is sometime in the next year. What I don't get is why would Nintendo bother with re-releasing the first two Prime games with Wii controls. Is there really a market for such a thing?

I loved the Prime series but there would have to be a major difference in that update to get to me consider buying those games again.

Given that porting the games to Wii should be pretty cheap, they wouldn't have to sell too many copies to turn in a healthy profit. Nintendo obviously believes there's a market for these Gamecube ports, although I don't think they know exactly what to expect yet - they're holding off porting more games to the system until the first lot (Pikmin, Mario Tennis, Metroid Prime, Chibi-Robo and DK Jungle Beat) prove that it's worth their time.

And to be honest, I think that quite a few people are actually excited for these ports. The Prime ones anyway, since the controls in Corruption are outstanding and though the first two Prime's weren't designed for these controls and won't make as good use of them, it's still an exciting prospect and I know that it's got me interested at least. It would be even better if there's extra content - and who knows, with the extra levels in Jungle Beat, this might be a possibility - but the controls are enough of an update for me.

My concern is with Retro. We know that they're developing a new game for the Wii - hell, we knew about this even when Corruption was in development. I'm just worried that if they're making these ports (and they likely are, unless the job was shifted to a different team like the Banjo Kazooie XBLA port) then it's halting the progress of their new game, which as I said before would definitely explain the depature of several Retro employees.

Isn't Retro basically a shell of the company that it was when the developed MP(the first one)? If so, then I don't see the point of hyping them up because it's the employees that make a company, not the name.

I always wished Retro had picked up the MP:H engine and made their own "Real" Metroid adventure on the DS.

Something tells me Retro has completely left the "Prime" series, but is hard at work on Metroid Dread, the amazing 2D follow up to Metroid Fusion.

I can dream can't I ?

Three people out of about sixty leave Retro, and that makes them a shell of a company? :lol

Prediction: This thread will later be bumped making NintendosBooger look like a fool

Actually, I've only been wrong once as far as forum predictions are concerned. One out of many, might I add. In truth, I avoid them altogether unless there's a great degree of certainty that my prediction will emerge as correct. For example, look at my post in the most recent Media Create thread that will not only confirm my claim, but validate my strength of foresight.

When exactly? I know earlyer this year around May they were still working on DS/Wii projects

Sometime last year. Just because they are working on Wii/DS projects it doesn't mean that they develop 2nd party games anymore. Actually, they just released that cheapo DS Tony Hawk pack-in game.

And I do not think that Retro is working on the Wii ports of the Metroid trilogy. Camelot is not doing the Mario Tennis port, Skip not the Chibi-Robo port. However, creative freedom is an important thing for many developers - if you want to experience that you rather do not go to Retro Studios nowadays (guess why the Armature guys left^^).

confirmed: retro to go 2nd party
for the psp

I mean it was a trilogy. MP, MP2E, MP3C

yeah that 3. I'd say its pretty safe to say Prime is done.

Yeah I get what you're saying, what I really meant to say was that I feel that they've exhausted all "3D FPS" Metroid content for the moment, but I wouldn't put it past them if they are working on a 2D Metroid game for the Wii/DS.

this better be true, or i'm coming to see you, and i'm leaving with fifteen silver points

. . . if you get my meaning.

Nope they are making games, I got it from some stupid parents :lol

Yesterday I was talking to some people at a credit union and we were talking about careers and whatnot and they said their son worked as a graphics designer in Austin. I said, is it "Retro Studios" perhaps? They said "Yeah how did you know?" I told them I follow their games and stuff. The dad then said they were working on a top secret project and not even their son could tell them what they were working on. At that time I was thinking...you probably weren't supposed to even know that, let alone tell anyone :lol :lol :lol :lol

People in this city are too chatty. When I was getting new glasses a couple of weeks ago, I told the lady where I worked (it has a misleading "game" name), and the lady was like, "Oh, do you know Richard Garriot?" And then she went on and on about things he was up to and how he had tried to get her son to come back to his studio :lol :lol :lol

Three people left out of a total of about 60. That is not a coring of the company.

Also, I don't see any reason to presume they'd be working on anything Metroid related at all.

That shell produced two of the best games on the system after Prime.
