Pretty huge 360 pricedrop (EU/NL)

Re: Thread title

$80/€80 is a pretty huge price drop? Wow! Microsoft have really lowered standards as far as price drops go.

That must be mission accomplished for them then. It's like the kid whose parents congratulate him for getting a C. Lowered expectations ftw.

Wow, 269,99 euros for a premium.
It broke the "mass-market" price!!

369,99 euros for the Elite, cheaper than what was listed in the OP.

This is very aggresive pricing. Wonder what Sony will do, with their Euro bundles of 469 and 499 euros. Don't think the Premium at 269,99 will include any games though.

both the premium and the elite are cheaper than was originally posted. This solves the "problem" from those prices of the Arcade + 120GB HDD being cheaper than the Elite, so it makes more sense.

Xbox 360 is the number one next-gen console in EMEA, owning 42% of the market in terms of life-to-date revenue. Xbox 360 continues to enjoy the highest software attach rate of any game console in Europe with more than 7.0 games sold per console (PS3: 3.8; Wii 3.5) after 26 months on the market .

LOL Wii isn't next gen unless you're talking about software sales! (Oh and isn't that minus Wii Sports and Wii Play? :lol)

Everytime one of these ads hits it's usually an indication of a true future event. If you're in the UK and don't have a 360, then enjoy.

269E is ok, I think, but I'm not interested, I still have to buy a wifi adapter,It costs an arm for X360, all my consoles are wifi, and a hdmi cable, and pay for XBL

I hate those hidden costs

IF MS make XBL free, maybe

It's a pretty big price drop relative to the original price. A $100 price cut off $600 is 16% of the original price while 80 out of 350 is 22%. I wouldn't say that they're lowering standards at all.

Yes, because expectations reside solely around GAF thread titles.

The Press Release states: "With Estimated Retail Price Starting At €199.99/£159.99, Even More European Consumers Can Enjoy The Definitive High-Definition Gaming and Entertainment Experience"

Not "All", not "We Won, DOOD!! FUCK YEAH!!", not "Finally! We're done dropping the price!", not "I don't think anyone ever for a thousand years will be able to match this price drop!"

Just "more people can buy this now."

Yeesh.

the funny part is that they de facto put wii in next gen territory with this press release.

Huh? I think you misinterpreted what I meant with that statement.

Maybe you should explain it then, since I thought his response made sense as well.

Good pricing move. Now we need it to hit the US. I'm sure it will be before GTA IV, it's just a question of how soon.

Yeah. It seems like MS has been tanking this generation in order to maintain a profit.

It really sucks for them that their main competition (Sony) is perfectly willing to lose billions of dollars for marketshare.

Sony was in the black in 2007. Microsoft is the only game division that lost money.

comparing the books for all of Sony and only the Games Division for MS???

I see what you did there.

Well well... the rumors were right...

And now, not only can you get an Arcade for a cheaper price than the Wii, but you can even get a Premium for the same price as well...

Right before GTA4 hits too - nice.

Apparently I was trying unsuccessfully to be sarcastic. Sorry if it came off the wrong way, not sleeping due to a paper I procrastinated on has a negative effect on my ability to think.

The tardcade price is a trap, Joe Public will see "cheaper than Wii" and buy it, then get shafted when he realises he needs a hard drive that pushes the cost past what a Premium would have been.

The 360 version of GTA4 is gonna break all sales records! ( I hope :D )

Not really, it's a small difference but it's 269 vs 249.
But yeah, very tempting for people who want to jump into HD gaming.

How did they win the lowered expectations game then? I totally missed that.

I guess what I was trying to say is that since they only lowered the price $50 last time, this price cut would look relatively big by comparison, when traditionally price cuts have been in the $100 range until it hits the sweet $200 spot. I say dollars, but I mean Euro in this case.

Similar to a perpetually failing kid coming home with a C. A C not really something to go crazy over, but compared to past efforts it looks good.

Imagine their disappointment when they get a Wii home, and then realise it too doesn't have a hard drive. The Arcade isn't aimed at us, buddy.

It can play and save games. Which is more than the PS2 can do out of the box.

To use the Wii as a base:

In the US, a Pro costs 40% more than a Wii.
In the UK, a Pro now costs 11% more than a Wii.
In other EU, a Pro now costs 8% more than a Wii. I checked France as an example.

Except they don't need a hard drive to play (the vast majority) of games.

the shitty sales of the arcade despite being cheap shows the consumers arent stupid afterall.

except they dont have to buy the hdd, it comes with a mem card, which is all you need for single player gaming

i dont know the full technicalities of it all but since ms has some sort of rebate system for retailers if you buy large quantities of xbox merchandise.. i would not be surprised if we saw pro/premiums being sold for 10-20 less than the wii at select retailers.

Now a 360 Premium costs like a Wii. MADNESS!
Well, someone is really successful and making loads of money by selling consoles and someone is ....... eh dumping the price to desperately grab some market share before Sony starts banging the blu-ray bongos this fall.

Sony will probably lower the price of the PS2 as a counter measure. :lol

Yes, that's very much possible, which is actually happening in many stores.
Just talking about the official retail prices.

GAF needs to remember that ~40% of 360 owners don't hook it up to the internet, not even for a free Silver account. If your system isn't online, you aren't playing Crackdown on Live, you aren't playing Burnout on Live, and you aren't downloading DLC. If you are in that category, what do you actually need a HDD for? 40% is a pretty big market to address.

I bought a DSLite just recently and I'm not gonna pick-up another piece of hardware this fast.

Nice pricedrop though, would've seriously considered getting one...

Very aggressive pricing by Microsoft. It will be impossible for Sony to match the €199 arcade and difficult to match the €269 premium. Nintendo might raise an eyebrow :lol Great move by MS.
