Prince of Persia PS3 vs 360?

Mr.Potato Head said:
I think we are at the point now that it really doesnt matter..the differences are too small to even really care about..and its how it should be so no one is left out for those that just own one system.

There are many examples of drastic differences in quality between 360 & PS3 versions of a game.

I wish the people who don't have access to multiple SKUs, or who play their games on 20 inch, old-ass TVs would quit trying to tell those of us who care that we shouldn't be concerned with port quality.

If you have both consoles then buy it for whatever controller you prefer.
Just buy the game, that's all that matters really.

multiplat issues come down solely to AA now. They tend to run the same, have the same textures, but the AA differs sometimes. Also effects look different due to hardware differences.

Game like Dead Space are identical, same AA, performance, textures.

Game like Mirror's Edge have more AA on 360, though several comparisons shows lighting issues on 360.

I knew PoP would have more AA on 360 as soon as I saw the QORE footage, obviously with no AA.

GAMEPLAY however has been equal from mid 2007 and on so this is all just nit-picking.

According to the gamespot marathon (42:33) "In terms of visuals in the PS3 version the colors seems to be a little bit better saturated, 360 version have a few more jaggies to notice. Over all however they are pretty much equal with small diferences en each case."

360 version more jaggies?!? What?! That's a first. PS3 version for me. I love it when I can feed my PS3 multiplatform games. Seriously, I do.

Edit:

Wait what? I thought Gamespot just reported that 360 had more jaggies (see above). Or did N30RYU get it wrong?

Edit 2: I just watched the Gamespot thing, and they do say that the 360 version has more jaggies. That doesn't mean they're right, but that is what they said. (Also, I can't believe they have Tomb Raider ads on the site. All things have been forgiven. What did they give Underworld? lol)

I would say you will have 90% chance that the 360 version is slightly better. But probably on a very low techical level. There hasn't been any multiplatform PS3 game that is better... but the differences are so small your reasons to buy should probably focus on other things.

Spend some time on the Beyond3D forums first please.

judging from Ubisoft's track record, there may be very minimal differences ( if there's any in the first place).

but the PS3 version has a mandatory install right?

Really? When I look at the e3 (was it e3?) 360 footage then the QORE footage it definitely looks like less AA on PS3. Could have changed though. Maybe they will do what they did with Assassins Creed and do 2xAA on 360 and QAA on PS3. This would make PS3 look smoother (though with some blur that may not even be noticeable due to the art style.)

I have looked at B3D alot. There are some small, small, very small, other issues you can nit pick about all day but even gamers won't notice some of that stuff. AA, Textures, Effects, anyone can see these differences.

Technically games look anywhere near similar is astounding considering the hardware shares very little in common.

Different memory management and allocation. Different GPUs (One ATI based, other Nvidia). Different CPUs (with the cell being something very different from the 360 CPU)

For me, 360 games have a mandatory install now too. It's either I install the whole thing or I listen to the jet engine while I play (don't get me wrong, I love...love...love the full installs on 360). :lol The real difference now for me is that I have a huge HD in my PS3 and only enough room to install one game at a time on my 360.

lol, well, that's just a preference. 360 is still technically optional. i would say the same thing for my PS3 when it comes to limited space. i'll need to upgrade my 60GB soon cuz i actually had to delete a few games off just to use the HOME beta. :(

I would pick the PC version if it was GFWL compatible. I care to know what my friends are doing, and above all, I enjoy chatting with them while we play different games. 360 for me in this case. However, my GFWL games library is slowly growing. FallOut 3, GTA 4, and DoW 2 in the future.

So, should I be hyped about this game? I totally ignored it up until now, as I have a track record of disliking every PoP game since the original.

On top of that, it seems that PoP games make it into the bargain bins at record paces.

DiRT had advantages on PS3 graphically (less tearing) and reviewers even stated it.

I'm going to go with the PS3 version, when I get some Holiday money.

DiRT PS3 was released 4 months later though, I don't really count such staggered releases as true multiplatform titles. And GRID, using the same engine (upgraded of course) ran better on the 360 in the end.
Back on the subject here, last I heard the 360 version of PoP was slightly better, but on a margin so small that it should only be a matter of system preference in the end.

Burnout Paradise says hi. But generally speaking it holds true.

Well, I want to make my games run at the top of their game. So if there's an install, I don't care if it's mandatory or not, I'm going to do it because I want the best experience. I have a huge HD in my PS3, so that helps too. :D

This is true, I've cleared my 360 HDD of everything I could and now use the PS3 for demo's that I download for the kids.

I'm blocked at work but I imagine there is no online component to POP which should be the real differentiator: free vs "better" online (I'm generalizing, do not derail thread).

how big is the install?

I've largely been content in having purchased the PS3 versions of DMC4 and SCIV over their 360 counterparts. Looks like this game happily falls into the same category.

You can buy whatever brand and size you want. I went with Seagate, since that's what the PS3 uses. What I did was calculate price per gig, and see what version I was getting the best deal for my money.

yea, i have the basic knowledge down but if you guys are having no problems with the ones you use, then i won't worry as much when i buy the ones you recommend. Seagate is definitely on my list. some dudes in the Wipeout HD thread had some problems with the game and they were all using 320GB samsung HDDs.

Mine is a Western Digital 160gb, which is plenty for me. I have a ton of PSN games, all of my music, all of my pictures, and a bunch of demos and installs and it's still not half full. If I could do it over again I'd get that 320gb fujitsu for $60, but honestly I doubt I'll ever use the full 160gb as I tend to delete demos that I don't like.

cool, i'll add that to my list as well. i'm probably gonna go with a 250GB. should be plenty for a while. :D

Sigh, I kind of assumed PS3 would be inferior, but of all things why did there have to be framerate drops? Above any other issue, janky framerates just make me feel like I'm playing a broken game.
I saw this game played yesterday on gamespot. No framerate drops. The only hiccup occured when there is a transition between lvls. Thats is what was stated.

Now that the embargo is up:

I played the PS3 version. I didn't notice any technical issues except for two relatively minor ones: Occasionally (about three times during the entire game) everything would pause for a split second, then start back up again. And sometimes the audio would skip briefly (about six times during the entire game).

I know I sound like a bitter old asshole here (which I admittedly am) but I don't even understand why companies keep rebooting game series and have the gall to put out a game called "Prince Of Persia" or "Sonic The Hedgehog".. they should be nice and humble and use at least a subtitle. Any other old jaded assholes with me on this?

Oh, it's not an Ubi PoP game without audio glitches! :lol

Also, isn't this like the first PoP since the original back in the late 80s, not to have any kind of subtitle whatsoever? Even PoP 3D for the PC had the '3D' in the title. And last gen's PoP reboot was subtitled 'Sands of Time' of course.

Just watched the first part of the "10 Minutes" segment on Gamersyde. Looks very good (360 version) only negative on the graphics is the shadows which are quite jagged.

And audio quality is somewhat poor, and the voicework is a it wonky.

chris your review just made this game go from a purchase to a rental to me. Thank god I waited.

This ...seriously

For you skeptics out there, check out IGN's video review. Even though Hillary of Xbox reviewed it, alot of the footage shown is actually of the PS3 version. What does this mean? it means I couldn't tell a difference between to the two at any given time and I watched the HD review as I have an insider account. Add the fact the Playstation3 has trophies and it really does come down to a controller/system preference

Lock this thread
Hit the nail on the head!

As a general rule of thumb you should go for the 360 version if you want better/faster visuals, unless control is a huge issue. If you don't notice framerate dips or jaggies for far away objects as much as teh grafix whores then really it doesn't make much of a difference. Also, if your cock isn't big enough you should probably get both.

I think the 360 has spoiled me with the full installs of games on the HDD. I suppose that was the breaker for me of which one to buy. The rest I didn't care for in terms of control type, looks, etc. I'm a PoP whore!

no.

I don't think it's possible for PS3 to have better AA due to eDRAM in the 360. At best they'll be more or less the same with some differences in the AA techniques the GPU in each console uses.

Rest of it comes down to console preference.

I'm sure Eurogamer will report that the texture quality on the Prince's left pinkie is slightly better on the 360 or something.

The main reason I've been going with PS3 lately is sound. Games just sound better on it for some reason. Anyone heard both on a decent sound system?

I don't think anyone outside of the crazy hardcore will notice a difference between the two versions. It's no big deal at all. I certainly don't think it's thread worthy. But I'm sure Eurogamer will make the comparison in about to weeks and say the 360 has the edge because of four or five brighter, smoother, and clearer pixels (or someother nonsesnse).

If you have zero friends on the PS3, you're doing it wrong as well.

I hear so many people say they don't have any friends to play games with online on the PS3. It's a tiring excuse.

If not for GAF I wouldn't have more than 3 friends on PSN. Out of the 10 guys at work I game with only 2 have a PS3. One of them has a 100k+ gamerscore and he doesn't even care about trophies, it's so late and tacked on I don't really blame him. Friend on XBL is still a valid reason for purchasing the 360 version, in the U.S atleast maybe Euroland is a different story.

It's because PS3 can support more formats.
