Looks great, sure. But I can't wrap my head around the fact that you can't die...I'll wait and see.
You can die in the gameplay sense of the word (meaning you have to retry scenarios) you just don't literally die. I don't see the issue.

I could swear in an earlier preview that if you were to fall while platforming the girl would automatically save you?

Unfortunetly. I agree. The platforming looks like you can't even die because your sidekick always saves you which is lame.

When your partner saves you, it takes you back to your last checkpoint, which is the same thing as dying. You might be thinking the partner-assisted double jump is a death save from the videos, but it's not.

She does, but then places you back at the last checkpoint.

Yeah, she takes you back to the last checkpoint. It's the equivalent of hitting Retry after dying without the tediousness of waiting for the death animation and menu to appear.

Amazing graphics, but I'm still not sure about the game play.Tthe exploration and combat in the video just don't look fun, but I guess I'll reserve judgment 'till it's out.

People you are confusing two things:

1- Co-Op jump: This move is when the prince jumps then Elika appears and throws him further.
2- Failed jump: This happens when the prince falls too much, Elika's hand appears in the screen and grabs onto his, pulls him back, and brings him back to the last safe platform he was on before jumping.

Two very different things.

Sands of Time did the exact same thing. When the Prince "died" in SoT, it was because his story had been incorrectly told.

i'm completely sold based on the art direction/graphics/characters alone. the gameplay also looks nice, hope that it doesnt hold our hand through all the platforming.

Because, as beautiful as it looks, they've taken the gameplay in directions that I cannot agree with. It's become far too unrealistic and automatic. Instead of providing environments for the Prince to navigate that are treacherous but possible, they've allowed the Prince to bypass impossible obstacles effortlessly through ridiculous magical abilities.

They've given the Prince, and the environments that he explores, too much free reign. Possiblity in seemingly-impossible circumstances, key elements of the PoP franchise, seem to have been largely removed in favour of impossibility made possible by erratic game design.
right, because a dagger that has a rewind button is so much more realistic.

Your worries regarding the gameplay are valid, but until we hear or see more of the game itself, I'm personally optimistic and certain that they've designed the levels to be as platform-y as the previous games, and it won't be as loose as it comes off.

Your first complaint is silly, though. All they did was bypass an unnecessary part of what made Sands of Time, well, Sands of Time. I just hope that doesn't become an issue where veteran gamers are always aware of this being a "gimmick," but simply let it be an aspect of the game that will completely fly over our collective heads, as the real megatons start hitting.

Urge to pre-order rising...

especially since Amazon is upgrading all pre-orders to the LE for free.
I think all retailers that are handling preorders are upgrading for free. GS is doing it as well.

IIRC they were demoing it on the PS3 so that's a good sign.

Why aren't the characters cellshaded in this pic?

The outlines disappear when the characters are at a long distance from a camera, probably. Best looking picture of the bunch, thanks to that.

edit: oh wow the arbitrary outline on the background makes this scenery look REALLY bad:

Just to clarify, the Prince does not die. It was a choice early on to not have the old "Game Over" screen if you made a mistake. The developers thought that having the game remind you that "You suck...respawn!" was just a bit too annoying, plus the "Game Over/Restart at Checkpoint Yes/No" is just old-school gaming premise that some games just cannot shake.

If you jump off a cliff, Elika will save you automatically and you will be reset back to the point you jumped off. You cannot use the system to bypass puzzles and Elika tends to be grumpy if she has to save your ass all the time. :lol

Elika is a helper but she does not get in the way. While you may use Elika in conjunction with certain acrobatic moves and solving puzzles, the Prince still has to do the majority himself. It is a Prince of Persia game, not Elika and her Pet Prince game.

I like the look of that screen myself. In motion it would look awesome.

Holy crap at all the pics.

Need motion please.
30fps or 60fps?

Fuck. Now I want to get it on the PC to get my 60 fps. My PS3 would like some lovin', though. D:

I already have it preordered for the PS3, though. :/

Didn't the PC version of Assassin's Creed run like a two-legged dog?

Yeah, and it's been explained that way since the beginning. It's quite sad that people who don't want to understand that there's no difference gameplay-wise are still going to bitch. Meh.

it LOOKS great
but the gameplay i've seen of it so far is kinda boring

Yeah, just like all the other PoP game's gameplay.

Booorrrring.

I think that entire franchise won the AIAS award for BORIIIING. Right?

Boring, boring franchise.

Have not been this impressed with graphics and artstyle combination since uncharted. I will buy this if just to be able to look at it. If there is good game inside thats a bonus.

God damn, if I didn't have this pre-ordered already I'd be blazing out the door to do it right now. Yes, at 5:30AM. Hell, I might just pre-order it a second time to make a point.

graphicwise its stunning, lets pray it plays well and is super fun!!!

might end up game of the year if thats the case as I dont see a more stunning looking game out there than this so combine super fun and awesome controls GOTY

I dont know

the screens are beautiful, im not excited for it at all

i dunno why, i just....dont

I'm not really stoked either, idk if anything can top sands of time...HD or not.

The game looks great, but they need to show some of the puzzles or harder parts of the platforming. Since most if not all fights in game are isolated 1 on 1 battles, then a large part of the game will be the platforming and puzzles which seem to be easier with use of the gauntlet and Elika.

Yeah it looks great.
Yeah it's PoP.
Yeah it's Bugisoft.

Remember Assassin's Creed looked nice too before you actually played it.

The fans on the official PoP Forums don't want too much information to be shown, so they are surprises when playing the game...

this is one not-crazy thing the guys over there think. now if you can just convince them the art style is fantastic we'll be flying high!
