I have that version on CD! ^_^ (the guitar solo at the end was so Godly) Not to mention the time I snuck into the VIP section of his after party, and took this pic:

I think somebody put the footage up on Youtube a while ago, but just like that...POOF.

It's always killed how fucking pretty this man is. He's like a fucking Renaissance painting.

I've never cared for his music though. Or that movie he did.

In a way he takes pride into his work. It's over obsessive, but atleast you can hear most of his work on Spotify. If Prince was really petty, he would have take the songs off of Spotify and created his own streaming service for himself :/.

I support artists who don't have sticks up their asses about this sort of thing. I've bought tons of albums which were released completely free to listen to online. When I find myself listening to it a few times, I have to say, "you know what, this is great, I'm going to go ahead and pick this up." Good on them.

And often I'll hear random music on youtube that makes me interested enough in the artist to look up more of their stuff and I end up buying it.

Those people have earned my money, not the ones who throw up barriers. There's enough music out there that any barriers to listening to anything specific these days are enough to make people look elsewhere.

Heck, look at this thread. How can we even talk about how great he is without any examples? People resorting to digging on random sites like jukebo.com? Come on.

This is just shameful. Having to reminisce about a great artist by posting Muppet clips.

AND it's blocked in my country (the US).

I tend to give my money to musicians who make good music.

I've always "known" him (as in know his name), but I know none of his songs
Just like beyoncé

do yourself a favor and get to know Prince. You can get away with not keeping up with music post 1999, but there are literally a few classical level rock, r&b, and pop artists of the 80s that you really lose out on if you don't experience them and their influence.

I lot of his best stuff is on there, but you're still missing plenty, including his best albums of the 90s and 00s, The Gold Experience and 3121 respectively.

I like 3121 quite a bit but I'm not gonna pretend anything he did in the 90s or 00s is even close to his output in the 80s.

Everything people really need to check out is on Spotify.

I always recommend people check out Paisley-Park/WB-compiled "The Hits/B-Sides" Album on Spotify:

http://open.spotify.com/album/3Qe0ad5Yh6kRmA71bbkFF8

It's a great overview of the best years of his career, and a really easy way to get into his music.

Also includes lots of rare singles that are fantastic. My personal favorite is How Come U Don't Call Me Anymore

Please.
TGE is the definition of cheesy.
This album is like a cheese sandwich filled with gouda and munster, coated with camembert and dusted with emmental.

One word : "Dolphin"

Dolphin was one of the best songs on that album. Come on man..."I H8 U", *The Most Beautiful Girl in the World", "P Control"....the whole album was a classic.

Truly, Prince is the most beautiful girl in the world. =P

Haven't really seen much of him in awhile outside of his appearance on Arsenio last year(I think he cameo'd on some sitcom out of nowhere too?). Least he did a pretty killer rendition of She's Always in My Hair on that.

it goes too far.
i'm out!

To be serious All i keep from TGE : Shhh, i h8 U, Shy.
And there's 6 interludes on 18 titles. Come on, really?

I'm so disgusted at The Gold Experience hate

Dolphin is one of Prince's finest pure pop songs b, right up there with "Sister" from Dirty Mind

Because I now have Prince on the brain, my personal top 10 Prince songs, excluding hits, in no real order:

She's Always In My Hair
Adore
Darling Nikki
The Beautiful Ones
Erotic City
I Wanna Be Your Lover
Private Joy
Do It All Night
Anotherloverholenyohead
If I Was Your Girlfriend

I like some of his NPG/post Warner Brothers output, but hard to hold a candle to his first decade or so. He's a tough artist to get into, even if he has classic albums there's almost always a few clunkers to sift through. Being that prolific has its downsides. Clearly a genius though, and one of the best live performers I've ever seen.

Forget the music world, I'm talking about all the kids growing up who will say "...who?"

I want to listen to a Prince song, I look it up, I can't find it anywhere. So fuck him, I'll listen to something else.
You must not have looked on Spotify then. I listen to Prince on there whenever I want.

I got a chance to see prince live a couple years back. I was fairly familiar with his catalogue but not a superfan. It ended up being the best live performance I ever seen. Just incredible. If you're into funk/soul music check out his concert because he throws in a bunch of covers that he will never perform again and they are fuckin crazy. The dude is a guitar god.

I appreciate that because Prince doesn't have music on YouTube people are just claiming it essentially doesn't exist on the internet.

I think he doesn't even like to be told happy birthday since he became a Jehova's witness.
His recent albums are kind of crappy but live he's still as good as he's ever been. I got that symbol tattooed on my arm when I was a dumb 16 year old.

Edit:
I'm so disgusted at The Gold Experience hate
The Gold Experience was fucking great, but it needs Days of Wild on there.

The Gold Experience has:

Shhh
The Most Beautiful Girl in the World
319
Pussy Control
I hate U
Gold
Endorphinmachine
Shy

Pretty much a classic album IMO.
Although the NPG operator skits get old. I'd lose them all for 1-2 more tracks.

IMO Prince didn't put out a bad album throughout the 80s and 90s....except Chaos & Disorder.

I have a personal policy that if Prince is playing, I'm fucking dancing. The only dancing I know how to do is insanely goofy and white, but fuck it, Prince goddamn earned it.

Edit: BTW, Prince has royally fucked himself over with his attitude toward the internet. He seems never to have gotten the very basic memo that, once you put your art out to the world, it's the world's. You have a right to profit from it, but that right ends where the necessity of access to art being fair, open, and egalitarian begins.

I love this live version of Purple Rain This is the version that they used in his album, but cut it and 'cleaned' it up a bit. Personally, I think they should have just left it as is.

As for songs, I love me some Controversy
