Pro Evolution Soccer 2010 - The Official Thread

I played 4 matches online so far, there's a bit of lag sometimes, but it's highly playable. Problem is, you can wait several minutes to find an opponent :-/

Still holding out for PSP PSN release. What a let down.

I briefly held the UMD version in my hands at Gamestop today :(

Have you tried FIFA 10 on PSP (digital or UMD)?

i think a rebuy a ps2 to play PES6 -_- it's so good.

Right on. Still the best footie game out there (aside from the Wii versions).

Konami and Halifax (Konami's pub for Italy) released a PR reporting
Italy as PES 2010's strongest territory with 725k units sold* across all formats, with the PS2 and PS3 version accounting for more than 75% of that number, and with both versions still in the weekly Top 5 Italy's best sellers.

* HOLY F SHIT we sure love our PES!
We were also the frontrunners of the mighty PSX (PSOne) Winning Eleven's patching phenomenom, so no doubt of the incredible franchise's power here; literally almost all of my non-gamer friends have/had a PS2/PS3 and only yearly copies of Winning Eleven (then PES).

No, I haven't had the pleasure. Don't know anyone with a PSP and FIFA 10, let alone a PSP. Getting older (OK, I'm only 20) = less gaming buddies. And I'm not about to test it out for $40. I hear it's crap.

I wish it were great though. I mean, console side, I'm a FIFA player now (never thought I'd see the day, but it started with 07).

New DLC Coming Monday?

11gisr7.jpg

Staff member England spotted a new notification on the online portal website that was published today (see header pic).

Do Konami have a nice Xmas present for us all? To be honest I’ve no idea, there’s been no news or warning from anyone regarding it. It’s clear that it is new downloadable content, and could be something along the lines of the recent update FIFA 10 had today.

Time will tell, only a few days until we find out!

A few others have said it's garbage, but it still got good reviews. If it is playable, I may bite if it's my only option for a soccer game at the moment. I really want PES on my PSPgo, as the controls on the Go are great, and I could edit players wherever I want (a game within a game :)

OK I need help here,

Guys, I think the game has changed for the good...but like someone mentioned I don't want to say it like fact until I hear everyones opinion.

What I find is this:

More responsive, smoother gameplay
Accurate passing, less randomness
Better idea of when you are going to win/lose the ball in a tackle
Keepers holding more
Loads more fouls given

Now the above aren't drastically improved, but enough to make me think they're changed.

Everyone please get back to me after playing a few games and let me know what you think.

w00t

So what's the take?

Should I get this for my PS3 and continue with FIFA10 on my 360.

or not get this for my PS3 and continue with FIFA10 on my 360.

(i saw yall resonded up there above my post.... just trying to get a grasp to see if it is better than FIFA10)

Since you continue with FIFA10 on 360 in both cases I'd say you could as well save the money.

So besides new shoes what else is there?

Boots:

-Umbro Speciali;
-Puma v1.10 i;
-Puma v-Konstrukt III;
-Nike CTR360 Maestri;
-Nike Mercurial Vapor Superfly;
-Nike T90 Laser III;
-Nike Tiempo Legend III;
-Adidas Predator X TRX;
-Adidas F50i TuniT;

Balls:

-Nike Total 90 ASCENTE;
-Puma Speed;
-Umbro DYNAMIS LSR Pr;

I see claims that they've improved gameplay, referee strictness and so forth, but I'm not saying anything just yet.

I haven't gotten a penalty yet since the new update, and I've been tackled in the box already. It doesn't seem as a blatant foul as before though, so cant say anything just yet about that.

Passing/Goalie/AI/Defense/Animation has all gotten a big overhaul for sure.

I went into training mode and the goalie has made very amazing saves against point blank shots. Off the ball movement and ball dynamics have been tweaked so you don't see those sky high bounces as much as before. There is more variation in the way the ball bounces.

Overhead through pass has been fixed, and I've already set up a few 1 on 1 chances from mid field overhead passes to the strikers running behind enemy lines. Shooting is also much more instantaneous so those reactionary shots are possible now. Players also feel like they turn a tad bit faster, so you can use your body much easier against incoming defender.

It's only been 2 matches since the update but the game has definitely been improved gameplaywise in every department.

So far, no improvements in Become a Legend. I will probably end the day without my sanity if I keep playing this mode. Your team-mates still act like idiots 99% of the time.
Scrap the whole thing for PES 2011, please. It's not fun, at all.

The game behaves better when I play the other modes though. And Barça seems to have been balanced.

Whoa there's gameplay tweaks in the patch??

KONAMI RELEASE PATCH IN NA PLEASE.
This. And ASAP.

edit- just downloaded a 12/09 DLC from the marketplace, and then my game updated

edit2- liked the slideshow when you boot the game showing all the new boots and balls. The ref appears to cheat you less, and the game seems to be more responsive, but maybe it's placebo effect.

Is Pele in the game? What's his new name and how do I unlock him?

Blablurn said:
starting a new master league today. my frist run was mainly about on winning the trophies. now it's getting personal :lol
I always start with PES United. I didn't make promotion after my first season :(

Word is that the NA patch is live.

Go get it now.

Just played a game after installing the 1.03 patch and the boot/ball DLC, and the ref was definitely more realistic. I gave up a penalty, got a red card, the CPU got a yellow, and there was about 5 free kicks in the game. Much better. I also feel the players control a little bit better.

This is me, crawling back to this thread after I purchased FIFA 10 on PSN. What a horribe, horrible game.

Quick question for the PSP version: is there an option file for the North American version?

There are no words

Blablurn, someone gave me a PSN card...I thought...maybe it's not as bad as I think it might be. As soon as the first kickoff, I realized my error. You were right. It's seriously like a DS game or something. I don't see how it got an 83 on Metacritic. What are the reviewers thinking? It plays nothing like soccer. Maybe everyone got caught up in all the menu options or something.

Thankfully, I still have PSN funds reserved for PES :)

No one cares probably but eh what the hell:

I picked up the wii version a couple of days ago and after several hours with it's just OMG awesome. The passing, the perfectly worked goals and beautiful moves are just beautiful to watch, that feeling when you see the replay of your brilliant flowing move is just astounding. The modes are a great step up from 2008 (the last one i played) and there is so muh more to your money

Also I played Fifa 10 for the first time yesterday at a friends house (first 'next-gen' PS3 or 360 football game i have played at all really) and it just compounded my love for PES wii and it''s sublime awesomeness.

Also i think the introduction of gem and natal (less-so) could be the kick start that the PES series needs to retake the crown of football games, especially with the experience they already have on the wii

This. Wii's image is preventing people from playing the best soccer game ever created. How can some gamers be so serious about soccer and not want to play its most accurate representation? Hopefully the low sales won't kill this franchise.

Got the game (PES 2010 Wii) as well as a present (so much for skipping it, friend code 0474 8304 8742), and seems like it was worth it. The improvements over 2009 feel more fundamental than those from 2008 to 2009.

In offense once more not much changed, normal running speed was toned down a little and speed running is limited to a bar, but unless you want to run through more than half the field or run with the same player all the time (aka abuse the running feature) you won't really notice it. Passing speed is still fast as ever (I was worried they might have made that slower, but it is the same).

Defense control however is much improved. Players man-marking others actually try to get ahead of them before tackling them. So pressing Z is now used to time when exactly to (try to) tackle (no longer for telling them to catch up like in the previous years where they'd fall hopelessly behind otherwise).

Unlike before players aren't made of air anymore and the ball gets deflected more often and realistically by players standing around (the issue of keepers often defending a ball into a perfectly vertical line from any position where they then only need to catch the ball is still there though). Same hit detection is apparently also used for detecting fouls which works rather nicely, and cards are given less often. If you run ahead, have someone directly behind and you get out of breath (=bar gets low) the player often falls, like in reality. :lol

The new free kick view is rather well done, allows more immersion but control is not too precise to make it easily abusable. New penalty kick view is also better in a similar way.

Online seems to be the same as in 2009, maybe a little better so far, still long waiting times and massive warping on bad connections. User interface is once more even darker, new main menu looks like shit that way imo. Music is worse second time in a row but at least I can now skip everything I don't like.

Overall: Best PES Wii/strategic real time football game yet.

as long as you didn't pay it with your mones, it's okay :lol

btw, merry christmas to all my PES/Winning Eleven buddies in this thread.

I'm still gutted, though. What a terrible game. I should have listened to you. I'm sure PES will be on PSN early in the new year (since Konami has recently put many of their other titles on PSN).

Did you ever get the PSPgo?

I sure hope so. I'm currently in Brazil for the holidays and extremely jealous of my cousin who I saw playing PES on his PSP-3000.

Have the titles that Konami has been releasing been ones that have been out for a little while already, like late-commers to the PSN store?

The patch (PS3 version here).

WOW.
Just... woah! :O

Just wanted to get back to this thread to say this.
The (not so) minor improvements in players' responsiveness and centrefield's play completely changed the gameplay experience for me.
Definitely NOT a placebo effect, now way my man.
Now this is something worthy of the PES name, I'm having a blast with it in multi (offline) and it's the perfect companion to the awesome Wii version.

welcome back on board :D

played quite a lot ot of master league during christmas. just got relegated into league 1. sold van bommel, schweinsteiger, altintop and pranjic for about 50m €. and finally...players are accepting my biddings. bought some young lads for cheap instead. everyone is 70+. but i'm still struggleling in the first games. still looking for the right formation: either 442 or 433....

fun <3 baaaaaaayeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeern.

me and spwolf just played two matches. thanks to the really bad input lag it was just awful. i think i knew what konami has done with the netcode. because there are absolutely NO lags they compensated it with the input control. the result: no lags at all. but it takes almost a second till the on screen players does was you oredered him to do.

I wonder what happened to the PES netcode. I loved the first 360 PES (was it PES6?) after moving on from PS2 (where PES5 is still the best virtual football game), and I played it 99% online. Since that version it's been unplayable over Xbox Live :/

From what I gather, it is still not ok? Any 360 players able to comment?

Right now, I play FIFA 10 and love it, and I can't stand PES against the AI, but against another player, it's a whole different story.
