Hey, you know what this board needs? Another thread about how much Batman v Superman sucks! We get so few of them.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V7Z2AKOrQg4

But seriously, it's pretty comprehensive as to the faults of narrative structure of the film. Despite everyone having gone over the film with a fine tooth comb across hundreds of videos, articles, etc, this one does a good job putting down the most essential problems of the story in one place, so I felt it was worth posting.

Even if you're a fan of BvS, I recommend watching because the analysis starts off by complimenting BvS on it's ideas and how it had all the elements needed to make a good film, before going over why it falls short. While he's negative about the story, you can atleast enjoy that he saw what the film was going for and spent time discussing how the Snyder's vision has merit.

It gets down to the nitty gritty of why the film fails to deliver on it's themes by having the character motivations be such an incoherent mess, specifically as to why the characters can come off as so immoral and crazy. It's 45 minutes, but it's worth it.

His channel also analyzes the marvel movies with similar depth, and I recommend checking out his Civil War one in particular.

Veelk. Continue.

Have you read the various BvS threads? It is half Veelk posting that he hates the film, half everyone else being some variety of "I enjoyed it because of this." at some point you gotta wonder if your crusade is in vain. Yes, this film is extremely divisive, but the level of obsessive passionate hatred rivals that of Batfleck blaming and fearing the Superman. :P

This is just shitposting. What I discuss and how much I discuss it isn't any kind of issue as long as I'm on topic by the TOS of the board. What you're doing right now is basically just trying to silence me because you don't like my posts, and I interpret that as a personal attack on me. It's you that should stahp.

If you want to address what this thread is actually about, do that. Otherwise, why are you even here?

Edit: Shit man, if you don't want to see my talk about the DCEU, why do you even click a thread by me with BvS in the title?

I enjoyed BvS and I appreciate Veelk sharing this so, Veelk please do continue.

It's good that you keep reminding everyone how much you hate BvS. Of course go looking for videos and essays to continue to prove your confirmation bias.

BvS is better than civil war

With that said 45 God damn minutes wow. I don't think I could watch some youtube essay about any movie in this genre let alone this one. We've heard every point made for and against this movie tenfold at this point

We're already at that point in the thread.

This horse was beaten to death long ago, but it may still live in the alternate reality where AlteredBeast found people who enjoyed the movie.

Veelk. Continue.

I break down Batman, Superman and Lex's role in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016) and why I consider it the worst comic book film ever made.

I discuss the structure of Captain America: Civil War in relation to the Greek Tragedy, defined by Aristotle. Along with a breakdown of the plot, characters and themes of the piece, I attempt to argue that Civil War is the best structured superhero film ever.

I examine the themes, characters and 19th Century Philosophy presented in Marvel's Avengers: Age of Ultron!

Bleepey, we found your kindred spirit!

God bless you, Veelk, for doing what I have no patience for.

The irony is that this took literally no time at all for me, other than watching the video itself.

I didn't make this video essay. I just came across it and thought it was good so I decided to share it.

I can say I legitimately didn't expect so much drama over the fact.

I recommend actually watching the videos, especially the Civil War one. I just finished the age of ultron one, and while I don't think it was an exercise of Nietzsche philosophy, he offers decently strong argument for seeing it through that lens and it feels like he actually read and understood the Nietzsche works he references rather than just name dropping them to make himself seem credential.

The only mention of Thor 2: the Dark World is in Toa TAK's tag. For shame. No good BvS analysis is worth its salt without it.

DC marks are a strange kind. They will return soon and in greater numbers.

Insert Chris Evans laugh gif here.

No discussion of comic book movies here is without drama here. Especially when it's a negative stance.

Not even

Just going through various threads trying to open people's eyes about how crappy the DCCU is.

Well, I know that, I just didn't expect to be the centerpiece of that drama for bringing a video essay of it to light. Alteredbeast made this whole thing personal from the offset and now that's kinda how the discussion is being framed, rather than the video itself. Which I'm hoping people will turn to, once they finish watching it. Hopefully.

Good Essay. But, I don't need it to tell me what they can do better. Even with the flaws, I liked the concepts and tone of the DCEU.

I just don't get the vehemence of some people not liking something other people like.

I dont hate it, i thought it was dreadfully boring though, that said i can appreciate what snyder was going for. He was trying to make a bit more of a thoughtful comic book film, but it just didnt come togeather. Its certainly pretty to look at and i really enjoyed batfleck. It feels like a fight between two styles, i feel like if wb just let snyder make his movie it may have been better, rather than forcing constant refferences and cameos to set up a "cu". Its the same issue i have with iron man 2. There is a good movie in there somewhere, but its constantly jabbing you with "hey" "hey" "you see that refference?" "Avengers"

The extended edition of BvS may very well be the best superhero CBM. If not, it's definitely top 3. The theatrical release had a lot of editing problems, which further exacerbated the cuts they made to the narrative.

Watchmen Director's Cut, Batman Begins, The Dark Knight, and Iron Man could all vie for that same spot.

I actually tried watching the Civil War video last night when it was linked in, I think a Wonder Woman thread? And I really like Civil War, but the guy rambles on, the video is unfocused, paced poorly, full of reaching where he forces evidence to fit his thesis, and the whole thing is overly long (Suicide Squad joke here).

There are better, succinct videos about problems of BvS (and DCEU). Even ones that use Marvel Studios movies as counter points.

Ah, this is a Baxi video. He finally finished his CW one too, huh.

Yeah even in the community he's in there's a lot of venom over his take on BvS, I don't expect anything from this thread tbh.

Have you ever seen his more casual stuff on Geekvolution? Him and Nietzsche reached memetic levels among fans of that.

This guy wants to illustrate how BvS is the worst CBM ever. No acknowledging Steel, Green Lantern, Incredible Hulk, Thor or Thor Dos, Batman and Robin, Suicide Squad, Jonah Hex, and so on?

Give me a break. Choreography and cinematography alone makes this film better than those, even if you still hate Killer Batman, Conflicted Superman, and so on...

BvS a Top 3 CBM? In what world?

Batman and Robin is a gem and the most comic book movie of all comic book movies.

*notices comments about 'all the regulars'*

I can see all the reasons to shit on the movie, but I liked it enough.

I hope someday you guys enjoy being wrong sometimes.

like making Episode 7 into anything more than a mediocre movie
