Professor Layton VS Ace Attorney (3DS, Level 5 x Capcom) announced [Full Trailer 633]

Whats this about:

They say that Level 5 and Capcom swear that the game will not be released outside of Japan. First I've heard of that. Anyone know anything about that?

That just doesn't seem possible or make any sense. If ever one of their games was destined to be released here, its this one. Especially since Level 5 is about to start publishing games in the US themselves.
Once again this is just gaming news sites exaggerating the headlines.
Capcom said that at the moment the game is only announced for Japan, which of course it is because it was only announced yesterday. Games are not announced worldwide as soon as they are revealed. The whole "comment here if you want it released in your country!" is just the community site engaging with the community. They are not honestly going to say "Oh man we got 100 blog comments saying this should be released in Europe, we weren't planning to but let's do it now".

Man, I'm already trying to figure out what puzzles full of contradictions would ensue!

"While the witness was recounting their steps (in the form of a maze puzzle), they navigated by the light of moon! But in this painting made on the night of the crime scene (received by Layton in the form of some slide puzzle bullshit), it is clearly a moonless night!"

Some are. Professor Layton and Ace Attorney games, in particular, aren't. I think Layton 4 (2-1?) still hasn't been announced for US but 5 (2-2) was, weirdly enough.

That said, it's still silly to imagine this game not coming out, unless it's some issue they have with the fully voicedness.

The keyboard wasn't made of chocolate at all!

That actually sounds pretty cool. It'll probably be like PW in the court room and PL during the investigation phase.

That's toplessrobot hyperbolically misinterpreting a post on CVG, which itself is demonstrating a shocking lack of reading comprehension about a blog post on Capcom Unity, which in turn is an entirely normal puff piece discussing the announcement of the game in Japan, mentioning the (straightforwardly true) fact that it has thus far only been announced for Japan, and encouraging posters to show their support in the comments -- i.e. the sort of blog post people at overseas branches make when they're planning to localize a game but can't announce it yet, in order to start building up hype and excitement. If anything, the Capcom Unity post marginally increases the amount of evidence available for a localization of this title.

Short version: do your due dilligence and click through the links before posting blog posts where people say dumb shit, please.

Anyone thinking this won't get released outside of Japan is delirious. Seriously, a crossover game made solely for the two fanbase won't get a global release? :lol

Every puzzle has an answer!

This is going to be the most incredible thing ever.

5 is a 3DS game, so Level-5 announced it sooner to show they have something lined up for the new system. I'm sure 4 will get a US release.

They just need to find voice actors for Phoenix and Maya, and any original characters. It shouldn't be too hard.

5 was announced because Level 5 is self-publishing it in America, while Nintendo is publishing 4.

4 has, from what I hear, a crazy fuckton of text. Considering Layton 3 just came out, I wouldn't expect Layton 4 until the summer at earliest, so we may get in to a NOE/Capcom Ace Attorney situation where the sequel comes out before the game it's a sequel to.

Namco x Capcom didn't get a global release and was a crossover that catered to a far greater number of fanbases.

I've come to expect that all of Japan's great games will be denied English-language release going forward unless they are "designed for Western audiences". It's a conspiracy to make us think all Japanese game developers suck.

If anybody's against it, its probably Nintendon't.

Just how many obscure titles did Nintendo passed up localising in the past five years?

If by obscure you mean new entries in a series that has sold millions of copies in EU and US, well, not many.

man, seriously, this is why i'm glad to be a gamer. this can't turn out bad, there's no way the awesomeness of the two franchises can create something bad:D

still, they'd have to make sure the voice actors would be available if they ever needed them again - having "real" voice actors for a character is important nowadays. Changing the voices every time is just.. wierd... look at Infamous 2. Plus we dont know who would be bringing this over: capcom or level 5, if it's level 5 they'd have to go through signing them on with Capcom too for that reason.

(although capcom didn't seem to have any problem with getting all the current official marvel voices. It's actually kind of interesting, given they were voices chosen for Wolvie and the X's and it's similar material, which was before the Disney buyout and that series being cancelled. I guess Nolan North is Deadpool from now on forever. Can't complain.)

I still don't know what the hell they were thinking with namco x capcom. Maybe they just thought a turned based strategy game wouldn't sell, or it got caught up in the wierd namco/bandai/bandai us/ namco us licensing ball.

How well did Endless Frontier sell, by the way?

Well, there's two possible reasons why it didn't come out here.

1) Word on the street is that the game was terrible anyway

2) Namco

Also, that it was in a niche genre, and that many of the characters in NxC (particularly on the Namco side) were from incredibly obscure games that were never released in the US.

No one's really commented on this, but is the english-speaking audience going to get regular tone voiceacting from Phoenix? The trailer showed no subtitles, and the Layton games had great english voiceacting so it would be a shame not to have any.

I'm nearly certain that Japan Only link was not there when I first posted the article, but I could have just missed it.

He should, but no word has been said yet. I think the biggest problem is that the person who did the Objection voice for Phoenix was just an office worker and not a voice actor.

And I think he may not even work for Capcom anymore, but that is likely false and I am to lazy to sort though credits right now, so I'll just leave this here

So it's confirmed that Nintendo is publishing Layton 4 in the US/EU?

No, I think the contract only was for the first 3 games. We will have to wait and see who is publishing and localizing it.

It's all bullshit. As has already been said, the Capcom Unity blog simply says that it has only been announced for Japan. Announcing it as "Japan-only" is something completely different. It's not particularly strange that a newly-revealed game hasn't yet been confirmed for a worldwide release yet.

Gaming sites are just trying to increase traffic by reading into a statement which has no underlying meaning. They're even spouting shit like: "Capcom are afraid that the AA series doesn't perform well enough outside Japan."

Even if that were true, why do they release the actual AA games themselves? PLvsPW would be all the more worth releasing under that mentality, as unlike the rest of the AA series, this has the Professor Layton name attached to it.

The website has the Layton theme, i was disappointed... no AA music? hopefully it's in the trailer.

And you guys shouldn't worry about it: this game WILL come out here, come on.

The website has both themes.

I know what the final reveal for this game will be.

Layton and Phoenix point towards you (in 3D!) and reveal that you are the 'storyteller', with your stylus. No canon broken and the characters go back to their respective worlds.

Ghost Trick was "Japan only", too, if i'm not mistaken.
But as we all know... 2011 (:()

Give them (Capcom and Level5) a few months. they'll see that the internet reaction was great and that we want the game.

The one game i'm giving up hope, maybe for the best, is that Mega Man MMORPG.
