Project CARS dev, DX12 boost is 30-40%

I would assume this is PC.

There the CPU load should go down massively with DX12.

On Xbox One it will bring something but probaly in the single % area.

CPU load should go down significantly on Xbox One too.

DX11.x on Xbox One doesn't use the new CPU features in DX12.

Hey guys, remember when CDPR said just recently that Witcher 3 would dynamically scale to 1080p on XB1?

What does that have to do with this?

I hope this is true. I want to play my Xbox already.

MS should OC their CPU and GPUs. My xb1 runs super silent.. Let's kick those fans a little higher when we OC.

There've been plenty of software miracles so idk why this one seems far fetched. Maybe DX11 can't utilize all the potential power? Idk, I'm optimistic about it.

What does that have to do with this?

Dx on the xbox one already uses some of the new cpu features in dx12.

We have known this since dx12 was announced haven't we?

The bundles and draw call stuff?

So the imminent patch the developer is referring to, is it post Windows 10, or is it the one coming soon ?
There's a patch coming very soon with a slight performance improvement. More smaller performance improvements to come sometime soon(?) after that.

And then DX12 is something for later, it sounds like. Will probably require a fair bit of work on the developer's part.

Regardless of what is was or was not, it was an unnecessary comment borne out of stupidity that added absolutely nothing to the discussion. And I'm sure you were well aware of that when making it :)

Personal attacks, classy. About what I've come to expect from you guys though.

That's what I recall too yeah. But hey, maybe those features were in beta so far and/or Slightly Mad haven't used them yet.

Devs seem to be promising a lot and not delivering as of late. Not just CDPR, but also Capcom where they said Ultra Street Fighter 4 wouldn't have the input delay as seen in the PS3 version. Look how that turned out.

Not believing a thing from Slightly Mad until I see it, that's all.

I don't think so. Saying that one particular comment was borne out of stupidity isn't quite the same as actually calling you stupid. Also you mustn't know me too well if you're trying to lump me in with every other fanboy with that last remark.

Id hope it would go up: Spread work across multiple cores means you don't have most your cores with idle periods. Frame completes sooner and moves on to processing the next one.

I don't think we've ever had anyone be this explicit and clear about what DX12 will do for any game on the Xbox One. The fact that he doubled down would suggest it's probably real. Pretty amazing that Sony's fortunate decisions about hardware will all be for naught just from software. Software is king indeed.

There's nothing stopping Sony from adopting the software patterns behind dx12 too, assuming they don't already. It just takes investment on their side on the sdk. Hardware is the hardware. Dx12 will let ms use it more efficiently, and close the gap today, but afaik Sony could open that back up.

Thinking about getting an SSD for Windows 10. Maybe I will run a build off it now with Windows 8 on my main drive and see how it goes.

I can get a 250gb Kingston SSD for $60.

As far as I know, those Kingston drives really aren't very good. Personally, I would just spend a little more or wait for a sale on the Crucial MX200.

After 'power of the cloud' and many other sales pitches I remain sceptical of 'too good to be true' claims until there's ample evidence and proof in my hands.

Yup, and honestly I exercise extra caution with MS in particular in recent years. On top of the cloud crap, Announcing and cancelling entire divisions within a year and such also keep me a little extra cautious of them. They seem to be in a strange state currently where Windows has got a clear goal, but Xbox is following a strategy of throw everything at a wall and seeing what sticks.

I've got a feeling this thread's going to be referred back to a lot.

The gap is closing again.

This isn't a Microsoft person talking about this, it's a completely independent developer.

Depends on how you define load. Generally it should go down so you then can let the cores execute more code in the same time.

I would certainly like to refer back to this thread after the DX12 40% improvement patch is released for Project Cars, just to see how everyone's predictions turned out.

This doesn't sound like it a XONE thing where all games will receive the same boost, but more like their engine is better pushed on DX12 than currently.

Especially with these comments:

We'll need to do some work of course but the way our engine is structured lends itself to the main benefits of DX12.

Let's roll a hypothetical. Say Sony were to emulate in some way the main benefits of DX12 on their machine. Well, we'd see a good improvement as our engine loves it.

I thought GAF said DX12 wouldn't be that great a benefit to XONE.

Well, to start your post in the OP, that guy "GAF" never said DX12 wouldn't be that great a benefit to Xbox One. Phil Spencer himself said that.

Phil Spencer said:
“On the DX12 question, I was asked early on by people if DX12 is gonna dramatically change the graphics capabilities of Xbox One and I said it wouldn’t. I’m not trying to rain on anybody’s parade, but the CPU, GPU and memory that are on Xbox One don’t change when you go to DX12. DX12 makes it easier to do some of the things that Xbox One’s good at, which will be nice and you’ll see improvement in games that use DX12, but people ask me if it’s gonna be dramatic and I think I answered no at the time and I’ll say the same thing.”

Well, this thread will be funny to read later when performance patch for Xbone come out.

As i said, this reminds me on Fable situation and '20% boost on Xbone' story.

Looking forward then to a 1080p rock solid 60 frames per second when in a full grid version of project Cars on the Xbone. ;)

hehe yeah right.

I would imagine Microsoft's DirectX team is pretty huge considering it's used on PCs installed in billions of people's homes, and not just the Xbox One. The development behind DX must be a huge undertaking and on top of that MS invented DX. I'm pretty sure Sony can't just "have" dx12 on the PS4, just as AMD can't just copy nvidia's drivers and whatnot.

I'm sure Sony can emulate some things about DX, but it's not like they can just make a carbon copy of DX and put it on the PS4. Whatever custom DX equivalent they try to make would always be only for the PS4 and as such they can only allocate a certain amount of resources to that.

Kinda have to read it from the beginning. I've put his comments in bold and ignored some of the questions outside of the topic at hand.

So the Xbox One has seen a "5%ish" increase then, or at least in the next patch?

Looks like AFTER DX12, and the impact it could have on Project Cars on Xbox One, is completely unknown at this point.

He was talking about X1 not PC, why is that so hard to believe around here. Read the forum thread from the beginning, everything said it's about X1 not PC.

Is DX12 even available to Xbox ONE developers? The PC beta SDK was launched just two months ago.
