Project Morpheus on June 6th Tonight Show

I don't think VR makes sense to "show" like this. The whole point is that it builds a persistent world that takes you out of reality. How can you show that in front of a live audience for 3 minutes with all the noise and distractions?

They're getting the message out there so people know the thing even exists

It looks pretty nice, but I don't think it will become the standard way to play in the future.

Maybe it will be a cool thing for a few years?..

I think virtual reality will eventually 'take off' for a number of uses, but I don't think it really will for videogames, at least not for a mainstream audience. If it will be successful, it will be because it makes certain things more convenient not really because of immersion, per se.

What? Immersion is yhe exact reason will be big if it takes off. What exactly does strapping Vr headset on make more convenient?

The Moto 360 is freaking massive, good thing oversized watches are "trendy" or else i wouldn't buy a watch that big.

No.. there was a learning curve.. but I was still sitting on my couch relaxing.

I never got that into waggle controls either. It worked well for a few games. same with kinect.

But I want my core experience to be sitting on my couch relaxing. Wearing a giant thing on my head isn't really what I'm looking for to unwind.

Oculus Rift is aiming at sitting/couch experiences. You can do that with a standard controller. The headset itself is very light and quite comfortable. Both the Rift and Morpheus will also allow you to wear glasses.

You most definitely can enjoy a relaxing, sitting experience in VR. In fact, I'd go as far as saying the potential for such experiences is far bigger in VR than it ever was or will be on TV.

they should have used another demo, maybe a roller coaster ride or some kind of virtual tour. That guy should have explain that the headset puts you inside the virtual world. people in the know forget that the majority of the population are still morons and you have to explain everything to them.

I watched the demo and I can't help but feel that this was a missed opportunity. But it is still early and I'm sure we'll see great stuff in the future.

And I would buy one for the blue lights alone. Yep.

Literally at the end he actually tried to open the cage with his other hand and it was like he sync'd alot to immersion by by asking "How to get out of here" as opposed instinctively taking the Headset off

Yep, that's presence. VR is the only technology that can give you that at the moment. VR doubters will be eating huge amounts of crow over the next few years.

I thought this was a good demo, to be honest. They both seemed to love it and the crowd seemed pretty impressed... because it's impressive. The future is coming. :D

Which in this setting may be even worse. When there's absolutely no explanation given what this thing is and how it works, to someone on the outside this looks exactly like playing a Wii game with Wii waggle, graphics and all. Terrible demo.

Wow I just got around to watching, what a terrible demo/showing. I've tried the rift and I'm sold on VR but that demo looked so fugly. Also they weren't doing anything interesting, the general public has seen games where you fight dragons, or rather punch dummies. If they had showed the shark demo, or even if they got "The Witness", and just let them wander around the Island, it would have sparked interest of the general public more.

That demo is not the VR future that I want.

The audience didn't seem to mind that based off the reactions.

These guys have made stuff like Angry Birds and Minecraft the biggest new IPs in half a decade; it's pretty obvious they don't care about shit graphics. Like another poster said, if they think of this as a Wii (but with Sony's support), that's definitely a good thing for Sony and a good thing for VR.

From what they said at GDC, it doesn't weigh a lot, and you can wear glasses with them no problem. You obviously don't have to stand up to use them either, that's just been more practical for trade shows.

Screw Morpheus, that camera is amazing. Not too expensive either, considering other cameras of the similar quality.
