Project Offset vid

Over all people like it and thanks to the trailer being up on major sites like Game Trailers it's now getting major mind share where it wasn't before. If I was the dev I'd be pissed it was leaked, but quite pleased with the outcome of the leak.

Yes but what if the game doesn't play at all like this anymore, etc., or if the real trailer to release contained some scenes that were supposed to be almost identical but more polished? It would be ridiculous to release the other trailer right now. So this may have caused the team to delay the real trailer to plan things out according to this leak, which sucks.

That looked very impressive (Except the v-sync tearing, my eyes! :lol )

Combat looked a bit rubbish but it's early I guess. Either way they seem to have a very capable engine on their hands.

well all the screens we have seem recently from the stormcoming PR disaster shows very similar environments and characters. The canned section with the crossbow looks somewhat old, but the 3rd person stuff I would say is fairly recent.

Even if we can't know yet who their publisher is, I would have thought someone could at least figure out for certain whether or not they still have one. I don't know what or how much goes on in the IRC the team and community have running. EG - Some guy from the forums with a fansite posted

02 July 2007 We've heard that Project Offset has recently finished alpha stage and is now in beta stage of development!

I mean, wtf ?

Leaked / released hard info > leaked video, no matter how pretty it is.

Very nice environments. The animation sort of ruins it though. I'm eager to see what these new systems are able to do with animation once somebody figures out how to use the horsepower for more than just more textures and bump mapping, if they can use the hardware to make movement more real then next-gen will really be here finally.

Didn't at one time the designers had this as a PS3 exclusive. I remember something about 1080p.

Edit: I'm thinking about WarDevil. the other
vaporware
game

Wardevil you mean?

I really don't understand the big deal. If they are publisher-less, then it seems a leak would be very convenient since it will get people interested again and they will be able to demonstrate that to possible partners.

Also, Element, what's with these dissolving publishing relations. I understand if a publishers 'drops' a developer, like with Double Fine taking forever for their game, but I don't know why a partnership would 'dissolve'...?

I really hope this gets made, but I really don't get the logical behind all the mystery and the failed Stormiscoming stunt. Why not just inform people properly.

Goes without saying that info from message-board posts can't really be vouched for, but this is from the PO forum. Rod is part of the Offset team.

I was talking with Rod earlier today about the lack of videos until the leak. He said that there'd been quite a bit of drama going on at the office with their publisher, mostly that the team was incredibly under-funded and the publisher had essentially "stolen" their IP from them.

Sam, Trevor and Travis were all infuriated by this, and a big show-down ensued where they threatened to quit and take the game elsewhere unless the publisher shaped up. However, the contract basically enslaved them into servitude. There's simply no way for them to get out of the crap situation.

Heh I wouldn't doubt the under funded part. I know what my friend got offered from them was really low for what it was.

Contracts as always quagmires for indies. Doesn't sound like the publisher is either MS, Nintendo, Sony, EA, Ubi, etc.

That video has been around for years. What's everyone so up in arms about. Looks amazing, yes but no publisher will talk with them.

Except, presumably, for the publisher they apparently have. You know something about the situation, or is this the kind of messageboard chat that (really, really) can't be vouched for ?

Don't talk above your stature! :D

Holy shit. That infuriates me. How do publishers think it is in their advantage to give shit deals to developers? It doesn't make the product better, doesn't make the team work harder, isn't fair either.

I really hope Sam and his team get out from under this deal and get some REAL publisher backing them fair and square.

Why? For example Ubisoft has had plenty of a bad reputation with developers in the past. They didn't pay what they owed in time or at all, etc.

Plus, you should imagine them trying to putch shit contracts, and they could get away with it once in a while through combined naivety of the developer maybe.

What I don't understand is that there is no specialised office yet that helps indy's to check contracts.

But why would they sign a contract that "enslaves them into servitude"?

Yea, good question, like I updated; I wonder why there is no specialised legal office to help indy's out on contracts. Should be some business in that.

But yea, if the publishers first shitty few contract drafts are accepted... then it could happen I suppose. Or there is more going on, possibly, I would not expect Offset to talk good about a deal that didn't turn out well, even if it started on reasonable terms. We don't have the right perspective on the matter and enough information I suppose.
