Project Origin is now F.E.A.R. 2: Project Origin

I don't see how this matters anymore. people were kind of getting used to project origin as the title amirite
I think some fans were getting used to it, but even here if I post people always say something about how the thread isn't about Project Offset.

I saw the demo at PAX a few times. It was...interesting.
Well I actually played the demo while at PAX! :P

Wish I'd played more of FEAR so I could give a better comparison, but for what it matters, I was happy with the game. Easily one of the best looking shooters graphically and it controlled pretty well. Still not sold on the mech gameplay segments, the on-foot parts feel so tight and engaging that I don't think the mechs add anything. Then again the demo was pretty short and the mech segment was even shorter so we'll have to wait and see.

The demo was pretty polished so there's no reason to believe we'd have to wait long for a demo.

Glad to see they got the name back, it's not a big deal to me personally but it's important for name recognition.

Yeaahhh baby! That's awesome element! The Project Origin title had grown on me, but this is way better, man. How's the PS3 version coming along? Will we see footage of that version sometime soon? I was bummed by the delay to next year, but I'm telling you this is one of my most wanted fps games of next year. Congrats on getting the name back!

Monolith did not do the PS3 or Xbox 360 ports of F.E.A.R., but we developing all versions of Project Origin in-house.
Monolith also handled Condemned 2 on PS3 as well, right? I recall that the PS3 port had a lot of sound bugs as well as lower resolution textures in many places. Do you anticipate the same issues with Project Origin?

Any word on how well the engine is running on the PC?

Hey, as long as you're answering questions, how's the PC version coming along?

Remember the PC version? Birthplace of the franchise?

The PS3 issues have been resolved, so you don't need to worry. It took far too long to get the PS3 patch out for Condemned 2. That won't happen again.

The PC version runs great, depending on hardware. I mean you won't run the game on a 486. Monolith is not going to ignore the PC fans of F.E.A.R.

That is a question for Sega.

What are the target specs for the PC version? And will it scale on the same level as the first F.E.A.R, or are you going for a wider variety of configurations? Also I assume you guys are planning on including another excellent benchmark tool? Is it being built for dx10 from the ground up or heavy on DX10 effects?

Is it based on the original FEAR engine in any way? I thought FEAR ran pretty poorly considering what it was displaying. Unreal Engine 3 games actually run better than the original FEAR on my rig (Gears, Mass Effect, UT3, etc. all run at a rock solid 60 fps in high resolutions while FEAR still occasionally drops here and there at higher resolutions - it just felt really unoptimized).

A yes, F.E.A.R., a pleasant memory overall. There are some things it did better than any other, like the clean precise nature lacking in so many newer shooters, plus the time dilation was second to none. One action scene, with a certain building exploding and catching fire while you're in it showed excellent pacing.

I would pick it up and play it again but the office building that never ends is too daunting.

Smart call on buying the name back. To the more casual crowd, Project Origin is just another new IP, but the name F.E.A.R. holds some weight.

Ah, that's pretty cool.

And yeah, I'm also interested in the PC version only, I'll hold you to your word element. ;)

Can't wait, F.E.A.R still has the best enemy AI around.

I recall I set a plan made some noise at the front, then ran away to another route where I could flank them from the back but on my way I jumped out my seat scared shitless as the enemy AI tried to flank me too :@. It was like a RE style jump where I did not expect it at all.

Hooray for Monolith!

It's as I've always said. Monolith, if you weren't a man, and my father too, I'd buy you a diamond ring, and then I'd marry you.

Oh nice! Congratulations. Still remember playing the first one on my old lagging rig. Gonna have to replay in all it's glory before the sequel hits.

I tried to play this on a computer with an FX5200 :P

I didn't see this one coming. It's good that they've reacquired the F.E.A.R. brand as it provides a lot more "cohesion."

I'm glad to hear that the PS3 version is doing well, even if I'm really tempted to get this on the PC.

Awesome!
Project origin just didn't click with me as the main title to F.E.A.R's successor, having it as the sub title works great though. :D

That gives me chills, my anticipation had not truly sunk in until seeing just those 4 plain, forlorn letters: FEAR!
Good work on getting the name back, I'd love to see the 'Project Origin' part completely dropped, but I'm guessing you wouldn't want to lose anyone who only know this by that name.

Monolith has made significant improvements to our engine since the days of F.E.A.R. Condemned and Condemned 2 have been released since F.E.A.R.

Ahahaha, exact same card over here. I think I made it to somewhere in the fourth level. After that I just couldn't do it anymore. :lol

I mean I know I was very confused. Are we still playing as members of the First Encounter Assault Recon team? I didn't wiki that, by the way. That is the kind of useless knowledge that lives deep inside me.

no, you play as a delta force guy.

So, how's SHOGO 2 coming along?

Element, don't know if you can answer or not, but will you guys be updating the site with info on multiplayer? And newer wallpapers and stuff? I guess closer to release...

Awesome, I loved F.E.A.R.

Quick question, whats up with the mech section shown in the video? surely it takes everything that makes FEAR good (horror, vulnerability, kick ass melee, etc) and puts it on hold? what makes the mech portion of the gameplay fun?

No you were a first day recruit with the F.E.A.R team.

in FEAR 1, yes, you were the "point man". he's asking about FEAR 2.

Players will step into the shoes of a different protagonist than the F.E.A.R. titles. This time it's Michael Becket of the Delta Force and his story begins 30 minutes before Alma's final meltdown as he and his Delta team rush in to arrest Genevieve Aristide for her role in the Project Origin facilities debacle.

FUUUUUUCK! Good job guys, love the new name :D!

I just want to say, thanks for having the first site that asks for an age, and already has an input that's above 18. That's fucking genius.

Oh, and I'll definitely play this one too. First game was pretty good.

SERIOUSLY.

As depressing as it is that this matters- I suspect the renaming will lead to significantly better sales for this game.

Which is a damn good thing.

Can we have a demo? Please?

Are the PS360 versions aiming for 30fps with motion blur?
