Can't a parent take a 12 year old to a R-rated movie? If that is right, why is it such a deal breaker to not get a PG-13 rating?
And most 15/16 year old's who don't want to be seen dead with their parents have probably got one 18 year old friend.
But most parents will buy their kids M rated games.I think that most parents don't want their 12 year old to watch a R-rated movie, even though it would be legal.
Whatever, just putting the info I can find on the violence of the movie. But it sounds like it's really disgusting, from the supposedly legit reviews on IMDB and Twitter. I'll be satisfied if it's really gory.
I didn't get in to see Mission Impossible 2 when I was 14 and with my mom was with me.
Movie isn't even bloody.
THere are already reviews???
I hope this and all the reports are true. Fantastic. A big-budget R-rated film is almost unheard of nowadays. The last was Watchmen, I believe.

Means that the director's preferred cut is released.
Assuming the Director's preferred cut would be rated 'R' in the first place.
What cut footage? There is none, the "17 minutes" quote referred to one of his previous films. That's really not the hard proof i was hoping for...
If it's indeed an R, they should reinclude at least some of the cut footage.
Based on my three year experience working at movie theaters, this means literally nothing.
They want to sell pre-sale tickets, the movie might be R, they slap an R rating on the tickets to play it safe in case the movie is actually R. That's it.
These ticket stubs aren't a confirmation of anything. They're not even news.
An R rating doesn't make a movie any better unless the movie in question had been creatively compromised to get a PG rating.

I wouldn't really call Watchmen big-budget.
I think Matrix is really they last.
Die Hard 4?
The Matrix was 15 R, Watchmen was 18 R. I wouldn't really call 15 R films rated for adults.
But we don't get that difference in the states. I'm pretty sure most people talking about pg-13 and R are from the states...
Here, an R is an R. There aren't different tiers of it.
Why would people be happy if a movie is R-rated?
A PG rating was the least of that movie's myriad of problems.
OP uses a Cloudy With A Chance of Meatballs .gif.
I love OP.
But we also have pg-13 films.
So in the states there's pg-13 and 18 only nothing in between? that's kind of stupid.
If you grew up with 80s R-Rated action and sci-fi films you probably would understand. All the PG-13 stuff these days just feels watered down.

Ridley Scott does not give a fuck, so he made a R rated movie. If we want to watch his version, it has to be R rated.
Because it means the violence won't be tempered so that it doesn't warp impressionable 13 yo minds.
Ridley bends over for the studio though. See Kingdom of Heaven.
And you look forward to the untampered violence? Sounds pretty medieval to me.

Ridley Scott said:Right now I don’t know where we are. The question is, do you go for the PG-13, or do you go for what it should be, which is R? Financially it makes quite a difference, or the risk makes quite a difference, and yet you also have to apply the question — if you soften it, will you financially suffer? As opposed to just going for the throat and gambling. Essentially, it’s kinda R. The little bastards will still get in anyway, so what’s the difference? It’s not just about blood, it’s about ideas that are very stressful. I’m not an idiot, but I’ll do everything I can to get the most aggressive film I can.
Yep, but that is why this is an issue. Anyone can go to a pg-13 film, but not everyone can get into an R. You have to be 17 to see it without a parent/adult.
