What? No. HALO 3 was fuckawesome. Keep that kind of stupid for the gaming side.
I'm talking about the campaign specifically. All of those commercials and trailers were more intense than the actual game was.

I haven't seen the movie (I will eventually even with the backlash), but yeah that trailer was tight as hell. I remember seeing it in theater and squirming in my seat with anticipation.Kinda weird that I still haven't seen it.
The trailer ruined the movie.
Something that bothered me about this movie was why the tech they had was way ahead of the tech used in the original movie.

He prefers to be called Ridley.
Unfortunately that is always going to be the case in prequels. Hollywood and even directors refuse to push for a more retro look for continuity sake. Hence why we get Prometheus looking more futuristic than Alien, Star Wars Prequels looking more advanced than OT, Star Trek (at least this one had an in canon explanation due to time manipulation), etc
Because it would be silly and make no sense.

Holy shit! It was really good. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=owrEMGg4x3M
Of course it would make sense. That's my point.
The problem wasn't whether it was a prequel or a spinoff, the problem is that Damon Lindelof cannot write a competent third act to save his fucking life. Well, one of many problems, anyways.
The whole film summed up in GIF:
