Prometheus' Theactrical Trailer was Awesome

Things that had better trailers than the movie itself:

- Spider-man 3 (teaser + three trailers)
- Terminator Salvation (teaser + two trailers)
- Prometheus (teaser + trailer)

Of course, SM3's teaser gave away 90% of the good parts of the movie.

Probably the most poignant example I can think of for a trailer giving too much away.

Something that bothered me about this movie was why the tech they had was way ahead of the tech used in the original movie.

Unfortunately that is always going to be the case in prequels. Hollywood and even directors refuse to push for a more retro look for continuity sake. Hence why we get Prometheus looking more futuristic than Alien, Star Wars Prequels looking more advanced than OT, Star Trek (at least this one had an in canon explanation due to time manipulation), etc

I disagree with that with regards to the Star Wars prequels. The computers etc they used were a match for the OT.

Of course it would make sense. That's my point.

No it would not. It would only make sense in a weird continuity with the old movie, but they shouldn't restrain our design now. It would look silly if the tech of the future would be based on assumptions on what the future tech would look like from 70's point of view.

The problem wasn't whether it was a prequel or a spinoff, the problem is that Damon Lindelof cannot write a competent third act to save his fucking life. Well, one of many problems, anyways.

Yeah this is how I've always felt about him, he can really set something up, but he never quite knows how to finish it, and ends up just coming up with something generic or just ignoring it altogether. The movie was alright, not the worst thing ever, but you'd expect so much more giving the hype around it, and the talent involved.

i just watched the movie with a bunch of friends, all big time ALIENS franchise fans, and we all LOVED IT. There was nothing confusing about the movie; it was exactly what we expected; the movie was great, the references were incredible, the sets are insane. What an amazing prequel to the Alien movies. I can't believe I've put off watching it for so long.

Why were people so confused about what was the black goo? It was the biologicial agent that spawned the monsters. Why were people confused by the lone surviving engineeers? He was obivously left behind and never awoken, the other guys were eventually slaughtered by the creatures while he was in another part of the spaceship, sleeping for two thousands years.

I know some people complained about how underused the scientists were, but eh, it's kind of typical for a movie of this type; we didnt REALLY spend that much time with the other crew members of the original ALIEN neither.

A great movie, 9/10, would watch again!
