Proposed S. Korean towers resemble exploding WTC

Unless, of course, America isn't the center of your universe, as is the case with most human beings.

This is a Dutch company building something in South Korea. Why should anyone care what America thinks?

I fail to see how this is in bad taste. This has nothing to do with America. Why should the rest of the world give a fuck how America feels?

28 South Koreans died on 9/11 but sure, carry on with your America bashing.

I ike the concept (Open air green space & funky designs overall) but do not like the look. It is tacky considering that at least some thought of 9/11. It's not just that it resembles 9/11 but that it involves building a building that looks like an explosion- inless it's supposed to be clouds.

I also keep seeing swatzikas when casually glancing at it. Thankfully none are actually present.

Well the name of the design project does happen to be "Clouds".

Considering South Korea (from what I know) actually kind of likes the US - we gave them Starcraft after all - I doubt this is meant to be a "lolz woops sry America, too soon?" kind of insult. While I definitely don't buy that they were ignorant to the associations people were going to make with the image of the WTCs collapsing, I certainly don't get the impression they meant any offense.

So putting aside the horrific images that the design conjures up for a second, I actually really like it. Especially the angles that show the trees on the "cloud" parts, very interesting architecture. That said, I doubt this thing will be made with that as the finalized design, especially when the US is one of South Korea's biggest allies.

I didn't expect to see something that resembled it at all when I read the title, but it's hard for me not to think it looks just like it after clicking in.

Get the fuck over yourself, America.

Hey hey hey...America doesn't give a shit. It's Conservatives dude. Go get em.

This wasn't even a news story, it's some Conservative writer's blog. It didn't even rate, except he needed something to put up there. I refuse to get riled over Michael Bloomberg's livejournal posts.

Umm, this firm is known for its funky designs.

OMG it looks like a partially collapsed WTC south tower!!

I believe them when they say that resemblance to WTC is not intended. Also, here are other shots of the building in question:

Really like the design, will save for future reference for modeling projects. Also add me to the group that won't have seen the resemblance if i didn't have read this thread.

Pretty poor taste... the lying in English while telling the truth in Dutch doesn't really help them either.

...Hiroshima didn't take place in the nation of Korea you twit.

Way to be racist and generalize all asians into a single populace.

edit: I retract this statement. I think I might be getting the wrong meaning from your sarcasm.

Well technically Korea was a puppet of Japan at the time of Hiroshima :P

I really wish Americans would be more sensitive to the history of other countries....oh wait.

Really, it only resembles 9/11 from the shot in the OP. Granted, I imagine that's the angle most people would be viewing the towers. Plus, I think the shadows underneath the cloud cluster that darken that portion further hurt this, I wonder if it's something that could be fixed with clever lighting or reflection (if such an option would even be feasible)?

Looks awesome, and doesn't really remind me of the Twin Towers, but I can't say I'm surprised by the tone of the article. All the Americans that are butt-hurt over this really need to chill out and gain some perspective.

Cool design. But yes, there is no way anybody in the USA looking at that isn't going to think of 9/11.

Fixed for accuracy. I'm sure many minds will not draw the conclusion that it relates to 9/11, because they're not bombarded with thoughts and images of the tragedy every day of their lives.

When we go to war with them, that should be our first target. Fly some sentry drones into it or something.

America is stationed in S. Korea.... America already invaded, set up shop, and never left. So who's "them"? :P

I'm not offended that the buildings exist...but personally I would not want to live or work every day in buildings that look like they're exploding. It would be taking the concept of memento mori a wee bit too far.

That translation from Dutch is not correct though. At least the connotation is totally wrong.
They didn't think of 9-11 when they were designing it... they admitted it made them think for a second (remind them off) 9-11 when the design was done.

This is a really cool building. Maybe the architects thought by reinventing the 9/11 tragedy they could change how people would respond to it. I've heard before that the only way to overcome tragedies on a personal scale is to re-experience, relive and reframe them in an emotionally positive way, and perhaps this is a project that seeks to resolve that on a more massive scale. Then again it may just be a coincidence.

lol... The world doesn't revolve around you America. Nor a tragedy that happened 10 years ago.

This looks awesome and should be built:

Although I'm not sure everyone would have the balls to go to those areas.

I personally don't care what the building looks like. The amount of hate against Americans in general is pretty dick though. Someone said it better than me: stop painting with broad brushes assholes.

Looks like something from Deus Ex or Mirror's Edge.

I wouldn't have really thought "WTC" at first had the thread title not framed it for me.

I think it looks ugly as shit, I guess I have poor taste :(

Usually on topics like these I try to be objective or professional about it, trying to see what the other side thinks...but holy shit that's fucking outrageous.
And I'm not even American.

Uh... the designers confirmed they had 9/11 in mind.

It seems more like they designed it, looked at the design, and kinda then thought "oh, yeah it is kinda like the WTC"

I think it would be a lot better if it was more dome-circle-like in structure (if possible) rather than blocky.

Sorry, I couldn't see what you wrote because of that incredibly broad brush you're painting with.

Yeah its world wide brush. But that's how it is most times. People will call Americans arrogant and clueless and non-caring about history and problems of other countries then turn around and play down our history, 9/11 and any other tragedies that happen. Oh you had earthquake and few hundred died? This country also had a earthquake and billions died. Tuff....please donate.
