The general resistance appears to have grown.

I don't understand America sometimes. Why there is still such passion for a 150 year old war - particularly from the losing side? Is it because confederacy is just a banner for racists to stand behind?

That's exactly why it's so revered, it's seen as a sign of power and rebellion against those that would try and take their God given right to own black people.

The lawful way hasn't worked in almost 200 years.

Time to deal with these statues now, while the iron is hot.

That is why I don't condemn what they did. Me wishing the world was a nice place doesn't change reality.

I accept the reality that brought this statue down and applaud it. I just hope we can build a society of my utopia dreams.

Good.

Peaceful side of me wish it could have been done a lawful way.

But I don't condemn those who did this.

I would've loved for them, as pieces of art, to be kept in the loser's side of a civil war museum. But that would neeeeever have happened, especially now as people are getting worse.

I'm all for tearing down monuments of oppression. Which is exactly what these statues were a lot of the time. Big middle fingers to brown people living in the south from their local governments. We don't need that shit in the US.

Watch Gone With The Wind, read about reconstruction/Jim Crow, the failure of the United States to enforce civil rights in the south.

In every thread no matter the action from the left there will be people telling them it's the wrong way.

Freedom of speech, don't you know that hash tags and Facebook posts are more important. Action is second place, too much change.

Nazis don't actually care about these statutes. Really no one does, it's only cared about when it's about to go away.

It took 150 years of asking politely and 9 black parishioners getting gunned down in a church for states to even debate taking down the Confederate flag.

This way is much more expedient.

The statue in Charlottesville was put up in 1924. I just looked it up. This statue was also put up in 1924.

Oh shit. This statue is a few blocks from where I work. It's always made me really uncomfortable to see it, especially in a city that is predominantly African-American. Good on these people for doing what needed to be done.

Good job, and done rather cleanly (in terms of how the statue fell -- no other damage). Great. They all need to come down.

I can't help but simultaneously shudder at the mob-type anger at the end.

That said, nice job tearing it down.

Majority of Confederate Monuments were put up as ways to intimidate black population and to make a statement against people who were actually in favor of equality. It was a way for the KKK and other groups to say fuck you. Its why even in states that were part of the Union we see confederate Monuments go up as recent as 2010.

Why is there even statues of confederate people up anyway? It's hugely racist for one, and they fucking lost anyway.

A lot were made and put up by racists during the time before civil rights where racists still had major power in the south (and we're still seeing remnant of to this day). It's been a long 100 years with the bullshit "Lost Cause" ideology the south still has....

Because, in the interest of reuniting a country broken by war, the US let the losers keep their heroes, flags and set up monuments. Essentially conduct business as usual, as if the war never happened. The exact opposite of what the world let the Nazis do at the end of WW2.

I agree with you.

I know Kentucky and WV are two of those.

I say tear 'em all down. The Nazis can go ahead and tear down the statues of Lincoln too, but people would put those statues back up the next day. Let's hear people try and justify putting the Confederate monuments back up.
