PS Paddle Keys: Triangle, Square, Circle, and Perp-Lines

Kreis, icks (ʔɪks), Dreieck, Viereck

since the original PlayStation 1
or

One Line, Two Lines, Three Lines, Four Lines

oh you Germans ... "Viereck"... pff, it's clearly "Kastl"
as in Dreieck, Kastl, Kreis, Icks

but as long as we're all on the same page about the "Sha're" button on the DS4, we're good

Out of curiosity what do you put in a box when you fill out a form ?

If you put a tick for a correct answer what do you put for an incorrect answer ?

"Cross" honestly sounds like what a Brit would call it, to this American.

As a Brit I would say the opposite. Oo

I only get confused when playing a US or JP region game since the confirm and cancel buttons get switched.

X and O to O and X.
I was playing the Metal Gear Solid VR Missions PS3 version (that came with the Legacy Collection) the other day, and turns out the game uses O to accept options in menus. It took me quite some time until I got used to that, because every other PS1 game I ever played used X for that purpose (this was my first experience with PS1 MGS, as I only had the PC port prior to that).

So yeah, switching is really hard if you are not used to it.

I honestly think of them in terms of pink button, blue button, green button, and red button

If there was ever a game with QTE-buttom prompts and the colors missing I'd probably be a bit screwed

Never understood why people get the idea to pronounce X as cross in any circumstance unless it's used to denote crossover between two franchises.

X on the dualshock is ecks, the other buttons are geometrical shapes. I mean Xenoblade Chronicles Cross... really??

It's quite common in Japan for X to mean cancel/incorrect and O to mean accept/correct.

it doesn't makes sense. All the other buttons would be geometrical shapes but not this one? It's a cross, some may say eks out of habit, by laziness or because it sounds better, no problem for that, but it's a cross, not the letter X.

It's an X in Ireland I have never heard anyone use 'cross', as for the XMB the shorthand form is pronounced 'Ecks,Em,Bee' so it's still an X

As a French guy and because of the very same Parappa commercial some people have already linked in the thread, I say "croix" in French and "cross" in English.
I'm also pretty damn sure any Frenchman who isn't insane goes the same.

It's funny and very surprising for me to see native English speakers say it's always been "ecks", I had never realized you guys rolled like that.

In spain cross is cruz (religion one or something with the plus sign, and nothing else), so X is ecks. It would be impossible to call it here cross. Apart from that we already talk about the D-pad as "Cruzeta" because that indead has the shape of a cross.

Hey look a bunch of Christian influenced posters thinking they own the term cross!!

It's cross. For the same reason why your symbol is called a cross to begin with.

There's no cross in geometry though.

Even as a shape its still an X, you don't say cross marks the spot on a treasure map.

Maybe ask someone to draw an eks on a piece of paper and then ask them to draw a cross and see what happens.
