PS Plus: Free Games for January 2017

Titan Souls is great, I have no regrets about buying that in 2015.

PS4 offerings seem decent. I think I last played DOTT in the mid 1990s so that will be a trip down memory lane. And I've had my eye on This War of Mine for a while.

Remind me never to buy a Double Fine game again. They're always PS+ fodder.

Already own Tentacle and Titan Souls. This War of Mine looks at least a little interesting.

Personally one of the worst months in a long while, Shame. At least the January sale is pretty good.

I don't agree with the entitlement either, but you absolutely 100% cannot say that these games are free lol. They're value added to the subscription service from a legal standpoint (and using common sense). Sony absolutely takes subscription fees into account when paying off publishers.

I'm seriously getting tired of the selection of PS4 games being given to us.

There is nothing wrong about giving indie games but why not gives us one bigger budget title and one indie game? This War of Mine is actually something I've been wanting for a while and the only PS+ games that got me excited this year was REmake and Transformers Devastation.

I want every newly released movie on Netflix. I'm a paying customer.

It doesn't work like that.

There well enough AAA/bigger budget titles out now to warrant giving us at least one for free and an indie game to accompany it. Effs give us shit from 2014 even.

Still think the bigger issue is both TWOM and DOTT would play better on PC/Tablet cause of the interface.

Neither of these games despite being solid scream console or PS4. Maybe that's just me though.

Because people are paying customers?

They're getting exactly what they pay for though, six free (ish) games a month. More than they pay for in some cases, since Sony promise two PS4 games and this month provide four, for example.

No one is being ripped off here, or being lied to, or misled about the service, or anything.

My internet is really slow today so I couldn't check the video but I just realized--

The Swindle is the game Mark Brown had n one of his GamerMaker's Toolkit videos? If it's the game I'm thinking about then HELLSYEA!

The game was super cheap a couple weeks ago in a Flash Sale. Super cheap IIRC and totally worth the price.

I already played Gravity Rush. I was just saying that making a PS+ game would've probably helped increase sales for the sequel coming out next month. I thought the game was just niche enough that it might have become one, but I guess not. 70% of the time, I've never even heard of some of these PS+ games they be dishing out lol

No one is asking for newly released games, that's a strawman. And yes, when you pay it's absolutely fair to ask for stuff. It will depend on the demand on how reasonable that is, but when you pay and are unhappy with the service there's nothing wrong with voicing that.

But where's Knack?

TWOM has been a game I've been hesitant to pay money for but was definitely interested in, look forward to finally checking it out.

Haven't been paying any attention to the Tentacle remake, and haven't played the game since the original PC launch, so I'll play through it again.

Think the only game I own here already is Titan Souls, and it's excellent.

Seems like a solid month overall regardless of which platform you're on.

DoTT is nice but I much rather play it on my iPad. I haven't even downloaded the December games, might just cancel my PS+ sub when I've finished my PS3 plus games if they keep this up.

I guess it is no longer worth buying Double Fine games... Every DF published game up until Headlander has now been on PS+.

Curve Digital is also up there as one of the publishers with the most PS+ games to date. The Swindle is great though, everyone should play it.

You are. You not liking the games doesn't equal the games being bad quality

People can agree or disagree on the subject of a game's quality but I think we can all agree that most of the PS+ games are niche. A remake of a 90s adventure game, as good as it may be, will only appeal to an extremely small part of the total PS+ subscriber base and everybody else will be dissatisfied.

Does anyone have the Star Trek "Where the hell is Knack?" gif that looks like the Lt Guardian E3 gif?

I don't want Knack, but I love that gif. =P

Seemed like an awful month at first glance, but This War of Mine and Titan Souls look really good. I know Day of the Tentacle is loved, but I hate the art style.

I see the PS Plus Defence League™ are out in force. You like indie games, that's fine. We get it.

Most of the people who have been subbed since the PS3 though did so because every month had games like Demon's Souls, Tomb Raider, Bioshock Infinite and Uncharted 3.

I get that these games and most months has "good games" but its also understandable that people want at least once in a while a higher budget title.

Well i guess the positive thing is its most of the time games i would have never bought anyway.

Great games. So many people in this thread who don't appreciate quality, it's sad.
NeoGAF, what's happening to you?

I don't suppose you've played this recently on PS4, have you? There were so many game-ruining bugs when I played it around a year ago and I'd love to know if it's been patched to remove any of them.

I didn't beat it in the end because I just got so sick of the game killing me rather than me killing me, and I'd love to go back to it.

And that's perfectly fine. I'd love to get some high budget games too, what gets in my nerves a bit is people who instantly disregard indies just because they're not AAA games.

My point is that you don't pay Netflix for the catalog specifically but for the convenience of having so much to watch. It's the same for PS+ it's not for the games (there are some misses) but for the convenience of getting a games collection up. It sure helped me getting some games to play when I first bought my PS4 and it's great for discovering hidden gems. No one would be playing Rocket League which looked like another indie game everybody loves to complain about if it weren't on PS+. Would it be nice to have some "bigger" games on the service? Sure but a games a game and I'm not complaining that you're getting $1000 worth of games for $60 a year.

That was back when PS+ was only about the games, though. Now it's online access on the PS4 in addition to the games. It's pretty apparent that Sony doesn't feel like they need to offer the same tier of AAA games they once did for this service. But that also doesn't mean that what they're currently offering is bad, it's just different, and it's time to accept that this is what PS+ is now.

I played The Swindle on PC, I had no idea that the PS4 version was that broken. Hmmmmmmmmmmm, bollocks if all those problems are still to be resolved. :(
