PS Plus: Free Games for January 2017

Didn't Xbox users get Sunset Overdrive? I don't get why we can't get something like that when we're paying just as much.

Idk about Transformers, I never played it, didn't grow up with Transformers so I don't really care about the series. Resident Evil is a (REALLY REALLY GREAT) PS1 game made better. It's not the same.

Wow, some mental gymnastics.

Nice. I already own Day of The Tentacle but This War of Mine and Titan Souls are both on my wishlist and I've heard good things about Swindle. Great month.

God damn it another month of unknown indie games. The worse part I pay for ps+ to play fifa 17 online with friends. Just make an online only tier sony, I am tired of paying for games I will never bother to download.

My PS+ does not expire until June, so I will ride it on out and just let it lapse again. The only reason I even signed back up was so I could play ESO, but since they increased the price and kept the low quality of offerings the same, even that cannot justify it for me anymore. There is no reason for me to keep paying for it at all.

But Rocket League.

The Swindle is brilliant, one of most-played games this year. Really nice idea, well executed. Very funny too.
The Swindle is an absolutely brilliant game, if they've patched the shitty glitches out of it.

(I wanted to say "bugs," but the bugs are cool.)
It's been patched since, issues with spikes etc have been sorted.

It isn't though.
Ps+ used to give full-fledged $60 games that appealed to a wider audience than the $10 indie game or occasional $60 game that doesn't have as wide as an appeal (like transformers)

Those $60 games could be had for cheap though when they were provided with PS+.

People also forget that Lords of the Fallen was a september game (not that it was a great game, but still RETAIL!).

Wow another disappointment, hopefully Sony notices the like/dislike ratio on the video

Sony doesn't give a fuck about like/dislike ratio, or about how much people are dissatisfied with the game rentals being offered. Sony gets its cash from people by ransoming online play, and the games are secondary.

If you don't like it, you don't pay and subsequently don't play online. Otherwise, you pay up and deal with it.

That's the fun in being #1. You can do whatever you want because you have your users by the balls. They've already invested by spending hundreds of dollars on your hardware and games. They'll pay another $60 annually when they want to play a game online and can't without it.

Consumers as a group are idiots, but they're not THAT stupid. If they're truly not happy with what the service provides in terms of extra promotions on games and the complimentary games every month, then they won't buy into the service.

Also, like... At the end of the day, gaming is still a luxury hobby. And if you don't have 5 bucks per month to literally piss away, then you probably shouldn't be buying video games to begin with.

Anyway, love the line up. Had my eye on This War of Mine for a while.

Well, if they don't buy into the service they can no longer play online MP games. Or did you think PS+ was so popular because people want to play mobile looking games on a big screen?

Also, if you couldn't afford This War of Mine before maybe this luxury hobby isn't for you.

Another month, another sad lineup of freebies

Decent month with decent indies. This War of Mine, Remastered Day of the Tentacle and Titan Souls are going to give my Vita a workout (well, they are going to the backlog :P).

Yeah its always been that way. New releases are never part of the lineup.
And like I said, $60 games back then used to be good games unlike the $60 games that are offered now (LOTF).

I would abandon the service if I could. I am forced to pay for garbage games I don't want nor I will ever bother to download only because I need PS+ to play online FIFA games with my friends. I will stop bothering about the games once Sony finally releases an online only option for PS+, if the option of "free" games are what we have been getting for the last 3 years then I may as well get an option without them because of the last 3 years I think from the over 72 games for PS4 offered I think I only got like 10 at best and liked like only like 5.

That's totally not true.

The first years of PSPlus were the same (if not worse), we didn't get a retail release until Tomb Raider Underworld, almost 2 years after the launch of the PSPlus (on December on 2011) and we even got months in which some games were repeated. PS Plus hit it's strides until the IGC was announced on the E3 2012 (When we got Infamous, LBP2, Just Cause 2, Contra HardCops Uprising, etc).

I won't discuss the quality of the games, but let's not pretend that PSPlus on PS3 was of month after month of AAA games since the beginning.
Nothing there contradicts the notion that the majority of users subscribed since PS3 signed up because of titles like Demon Souls, Tomb Raider and Bioshock Infinite. The dramatic improvement of the PS+ catalog suggests that the initial subscriber base was underwhelming and changes were made.

Subscriber expectations have now been met and very clearly changes have been made again.

I'm so glad that the general indie hate that you see in PS plus threads (literally almost every month) isn't widely shared by GAF at large, especially looking at some GOTY lists.

It's nice to see good games get the acknowledgment they deserve.

Another month, another slew of newgrounds flash tier games. How about mortal Kombat or until dawn?

It's one thing to say you don't like the look of something and it's another to be ignorant.
It's another thing to tell it like it is, the people have spoken, no one bought these games in the first place and that's why they're free and no one wants them.

A service that used to give $60 games (Demons Souls, Tomb Raider, Bioshock infinite, God of war ascension, king of fighters xiii) every month when it was $10 cheaper
VS
A service that is now $10 more expensive that offers cheap $5-$20 games that are always on sale (whether they're good or not isn't the point) that not as many people care about.

The value just isnt the same. Its now required for online play. Im gonna renew my sub for this reason even though I couldn't care less about the "free" games being offered. Sony knows this. People can complain. It's not entitlement. You're allowed to not like something, especially when it used to be good but now sucks.

that's exactly it. back when PS+ first started the games were basically the only reason to subscribe. now that it's required for something as basic as online multiplayer they can pretty much stop trying.

Hyper Void is also available for free on the PS4 for another week. It was only listed as free for the PS3, but if you search it out in the PS4 store you can download it for free.

Besides Day of the Tentacle, I hadn't heard of any of these.

After some Googling, I'm intrigued, and looking forward to trying several of them.

I too, believe that talking out of my arse is telling it like it is.

When I'm drunk

Did it though? I struggle to think of one single title that was selling for 60$ at retail when it was included on PS-. Most were already cheap as fuck and close to the 20-10$ price by then.

Killzone Shadowfall, Knack, Last of Us Remastered, GOW III Remastered, The Order 1886, etc... So many 1st party games they could release that would make sense but haven't..

Not only that but games like Wolfenstein, Shadow of Mordor, Far Cry 4, etc would also make sense.

Not sure why they have completely departed from their PS3 strategy with PS+
Because you need it to play online. Why should they offer better games when they've already got you

Idk about Transformers, I never played it, didn't grow up with Transformers so I don't really care about the series.

I don't care about the Transformers as a franchise either, but a good game is a good game. Especially if you like stylish action games such as Bayonetta, Devil May Cry, or Metal Gear Rising. I played it without knowing what the hell is an autobot or a deceptibot, and it was perfectly fine and very fun.

Sick was about to buy dott. Happy until dawn isnt one after that deep discount in dec.

Missed oppurtunity with GR2 releasing. GR shoulda been one

This is Gravity Rush and Yakuza month, but man that's a nice lineup..and I already own DotT. Always been intrigued by This War of Mine and The Swindle.

Not big into boss rush games, but I'll still try Titan Souls for sure.

What the fuck sony? Yet another month of indie shovelware shit to throw in the dumpster fire of plus games I've never heard of and won't ever play. Give us greats like knack, killzone, the order and lords of fallen or I'm letting my sub lapse sony. I'm warning you!

People's memories of PS3-era PS+ are usually rose-tinted and inaccurate. The first AAA game to appear on the service was Tomb Raider Underworld in December, 2011. This was three years after it was released, a time when its selling price as nowhere near $60.

And of course that was five years after the PS3 launched.

I feel sorry for the person who pays for the Plus and only has a Playstation 3

I would love a first party from Sony, even Knack (I'm serious), but I'm ok with this month
