PS Plus: Free Games for January 2017

The contradiction is, as PC users, I have pretty much all Plus titles already, at least multiplat ones. For "exclusives" like Bound, I'll just wait to be included on Plus soon or later, for sure I won't buy it using the Plus discount because it will be given for free at some point.

No that's not your contradiction. You said that the PS+ discounts are not worth considering because games might be offered on IGC but there are plenty of discounts on retail or AAA games that are exclusive to subscribers as well as indie games. If you're unhappy at the predominance of indie games on IGC and you are not buying these games anyway, why are the discounts for PS+ subscribers irrelevant?

The problem is that first party/exclusive games are not being offered on plus. Which ones were offered? I can only remember Resogun and Infamous First Light.

Anyway, I'm locked on plus because it is mandatory for multiplayer. It would be a good bonus to have some exclusives as well.

Nice month could always be better but oh well I own none (except TWoM on PC unplayed) held off on the other 2 in hopes they'd be free eventually. PS+ always giving out mid-tier PSN releases made me quit buying them unless it's something I will have time and want to play right away. Passed on several digital releases during the winter sale because of this. :/

Ha yeah. Just looked at some gameplay and it seems like a trippy Nickelodeon cartoon.

Seems a good laugh for a few hours.

Full Throttle is an amazing adventure game. Great dialogue, wonderful art style and entertaining puzzles.

Man I wish that ToonStruck was ported to consoles. Anyone remember that game? 😁

I'm an oculus rift owner who owns Blaze Rush. It's basically super RC Pro AM, it's a ton of fun. It looked amazing in VR but should work normally on a TV. Fun game, don't over look it.

This. Blazerush (PS4 version at least) is amazing. I just bought a PS4 Pro with all the heavy hitters: Uncharted, Drive Club, Battlefield, Bloodborne, Infinite Warfare etc...and I've had more fun with Blazerush (and Resogun) than most of the other titles. It definitely scratches that RC Pro Am/ RocknRoll Racing, couch multiplayer itch.

So many times I've almost bought This War of Mine as I loved the original. Day of the Tentacle is a bonus as I've never played it before. A good month for PS4.

Are these all amazing games then...?
Are you kidding ?
What's your point? November-December 2012 is the year PS3 started to die because of upcoming February 2013 announcement
My point ? That this is not rose-tinted memories, there was a time when we used to get these kind of games on PS3 via ps+.
It was a fucking great offering.
Compare that to what we had in november / December 2016 on ps4 and tell me if the service is as good as it was 4 years ago.

Yes, we had these games. When the generation was almost over.

Games are up in the UK.

Yup, up in AUS too.

Edit: I know blazerush is a ps3 title but i searched on ps4 store, there were 2 blazerush's listed. One had full price, the other let me 'purchase' it due to it being a ps plus exclusive. Not sure if i purchased a theme, or if it was just the ps3 version i got..

Please don't tell me you think that will happen again months before ps5 is announced.
The instant game collection model was only introduced mid 2012.
Any game seen as financially disappointing to the publisher (so anything from square-eidos) would show up in around a year, it wasn't to do with the PS4.

Because it is one. Sony really needs to provide more variety to the games. It's basically becoming the keep Double Fine alive program.

Edit: At least I know not to bother spending my money on Full Throttle at launch.
That's sadly a consequence. I'm also thinking about just waiting some few extra months. I wonder if Double fine is aware of that

Yeah, it kinda sucks. I like supporting them but I deliberately didn't buy DOTT at launch because I'd been burned by buying Grim Fandango a couple of weeks before it went on plus, and I'll likely do the same with Full Throttle.

Did any game financially disappoint any publisher before 2016? There was almost no competition on PS Store. Now when we have lots of shooters I'm sure we can expect something like Mankind Divided at the end of the year. Maybe later. But there's no point right now.

I think the amount of people who follow what games are coming out on PS+ and actually take pre-emptive action by not buying certain games is probably very small.

I always used to think that nearly everyone who has PS+ would be downloading the games yet i remember reading that its actually a lot smaller than you would think. Then you have to think about the amount of people who are actually aware of publishers/franchises/PS+ history etc. which would be even smaller.

Im sure PS+ does have a negative effect on some games but probably not as big as you would guess.

You are not getting Mankind Divided on Plus as long as Plus is required for online play. Sony does not have any incentive at all to give expensive games out, and I'm sure Square Enix asks for much more money than small companies.

Deus Ex Human Revolution came out on Plus in under a year, and I don't think that game flopped too bad either as they made a sequel to it.

But for some reason they gave away NBA. A popular $60 game with microtransactions.

I always thought bigger games companies put their titles on PS+/Gold to boost DLC sales.

EU here as well. I "purchased" it without any other content in the cart. Did you try that?

Yep, now it's even worse, because it shows the original price on the PS+ page and in the basket. I've tried clearing the cache and no result. I'll wait, it's not like I'm eager to play it right now. ;)

This War of Mine is fantastic and I don't even like the genre, it's just so good.

Wow really good month for me. I don't own any of these and am excited to try a good deal of them:
Day of The Tentacle Remastered, PS4 (Cross buy on PS Vita)
This War of Mine: The Little Ones, PS4
The Swindle, PS3 (Cross Buy on PS4 and PS Vita)
Titan Souls, PS Vita (Cross Buy on PS4)

After having played literally nothing from PS+ all last year, I'm very down for Day of the Tentacle and Titan Souls. Two games that very much interested me but I'd forgotten about. Very happy.

Azkend 2 is also on PS4. Weird they did not mention it was cross-buy on the blog post last week (same thing happened with Hyper Void last month). Two months in a row, we've gotten 5 PS4 games. In fact, every PS+ game this month except Blazerush is on PS4 (same with VVVVVV on Vita last month).

blazerush is surprisingly fun. I just wish it was the ps4 version instead.

Oh. That's available on PS4? Man, we could've have every game on PS4 this month had Blazerush been cross-buy.

Edit- Huh. It's only $2.49 (on sale from $9.99) right now anyways.

Hey that's pretty good for me. Day of the Tentacle, War of Mine, and Titan Souls (do I get the PS4 version too?)

Just buy the free vita version from ps store online. After you purchase that you then get the free price on PS4 for Titan Souls

Sony needs to restructure how they present these games. I just got 5 games worth $100 through this and I didn't even know the value I was getting, yet they are structured as if there's 2 games, and the rest are Cross-buy, diminishing the main console.

Focus on PS4 first, then say "Cross-buy on Vita and PS3", instead of Vita first, and Cross-buy to PS4.

I forgot to download the free games for December. Were they any good? I wish they would just go into my library automatically. :/
