PS Vita passes 4 million hardware sales in Japan

In some wonderful alternate dimension the Vita shattered all sales records and is the most successful gaming platform of all time. This thought is what helps me sleep at night.
That alone is enough to make me wish Sliders was true. I would slide forever until I found that dimension.

I think it will have a very hard time reaching 5 million, it already was a slug from 3 to 4. Will probably end its life with a little north of the 5 million rank, joining such successes as the Saturn

Really will depend on what kind of output we see at TGS.

So far some of the bigger hitters are:
Kancolle, Minecraft (still, should do well in the holidays), Saga 2015, World of FF, Dragon Quest Heroes 2, Tokyo Xanadu and God Eater Resurrection

Expecting a few more exclusives, and a lot more multiplats that will sell better on Vita

I guess the steady influx of anime girl heads will continue, which is good. Still I wish the Vita had done better in the West. It's a great little system.

I started appreciating my Vita a lot more once I stopped seeing it as a new console and more like a replacement for my broken PSP. It may not have a lot of games I'm DYING to have, but it's a nice way to pass time and it's probably the most comfortable portable I've ever owned. Would be lying if I said it was really that good, but man I still like it a lot.

It's odd Vita sells that much, but it doesn't really receive much support from Japanese publishers like Tecmo/Capcom/Square.

Unless these companies did their research and found only the "anime girl heads" sell.

Realistically, what are we thinking worldwide sales are at? Below 10 million still right? Guessing 7ish?
4m in Japan
2.3m in the US
600k in Spain

6.9m just in those 3, definetly more than 7ish, I wouldn't be surprised if its sold more than the WiiU.

Square is just starting to support it now with World of FF, Saga 2015, and DQH2. I'm expecting more support going forward.

Also, Monster Hunter Frontier did quite well (by Frontier standards) on Vita. But I mean, Capcom barely support anything right now except Monster Hunter.

KoeiTecmo has always supported the Vita.

Tecmo is putting quite a few games on Vita and Capcom and Square barely support any platform. There's a lot more to the Japanese market than those companies.

yes, but N64 did not much better, 5,5mln

and WiiU is doing much much worst

So the console thats selling worse is getting more support than a handheld that's beating it? SMH SONY WHYYYYYYYYY

also my stupid trigger moment, Its koei people, not tecmo... they got bought out :/ and yes i know they've flipped their names 3 times back and forth.. Koei-tecmo end of my stupid trigger.

Brazil is kinda big on Sony platforms, Vita included. The numbers shouldn't be as big as Spain, but there is definitely a niche market here.

Tecmo has been putting pretty much everything on Vita and Square Enid is supporting it with some decent stuff. That's despite the fact that 4 million is actually not a lot at all, even in Japan.

It's the Dreamcast of handhelds. Except for all the classic games. And first party support. And being over-shadowed by superior tech from its competitors.

Hmm. Actually it's nowhere close to the Dreamcast of handhelds. Still love it though.

Well Vita has had strong releases in the holiday and it is a notorious shit seller in that time, like really bad the past couple years. Minecraft is selling a lot of software, its legs are impressive and we still see not much increase in hardware, I doubt people will be picking up Vitas for that game since we have not seen it have much effect already. I'd say it is one of the reasons why it is above 11 K each week. That is the baseline we should expect from the device, it is hard for that to reach anymore than 5 million

It's shipped anywhere between 11 million and 14 million worldwide based on calculated estimates using PSP and PS Vita numbers from Sony.

The absolute minimum is 11m.

*Koei Tecmo

(Sorry, I have to haha)

I hope it continues to sell well in Japan. I'm absolutely loving the amount of Japanese games coming over to the states.

Would it have better or worse if I called them Tecmo Koei?

So they might be around 8-9M? Going to assume EU at least bought 1.5M.
Not bad for a legacy device, and it isn't a 4yrs cycle yet.

Vita has a metric ton of classic games. More so than Dreamcast ever had. Vita had as much first party support as Dreamcast had. The only difference there is that the dreamcast died in like 2 years so technically it had first party support its whole life, whereas with Vita it had first party support for just as long if not longer, but the Vita continued to live on without first party support beyond that initial 2 years for a long time.

You're going to have to trust me on this one.

It's taken me countless hours to come to this number.

The theoretical maximum is something like 14.3m and the absolute minimum is just under 11m (assuming PSP sold well using all known PSP maximums).

Guys, it's not selling well in Japan, it's just not as bad as in the US. 4 million in 2015 is honestly not okay at all.

It has Jet Set Radio, it's totally the Dreamcast of handhelds

Love the Vita, but absolutely hate Sony's anti-consumer practice of using proprietary memory.

This. Sony should have just supported SD or micro-SD. I bought my Vita used because it came with a 16gb memory card (and also a nice case) at a ridiculously good price.

I'm happy to have done my part for support in the West. I got a Vita and a Vita TV. Always games on this console that I'm looking forward to playing when I have time or when the game gets released. Never a dull moment on this handheld.
