PS Vita: The Buggiest Handheld Launch Ever?

I've been rolling with my Vita for about 3 months; I imported one from Japan. Recently, I picked up a US version due to the O/X confirm/cancel issue.

When the thing works, I'm loving it. The games and the apps are stellar and simply next-level compared to any of handhelds I've ever had. Scooped up about 8 launch games and I don't regret a single purchase.

My beef comes in the fact that I'm having issues with my system freezing or refusing to turn on after being in sleep mode, every other day. Yes, there is the solution of holding the power button for 20 seconds to restart, I'm getting pissed off about how fragile the OS seems to be. I've had the thing freeze on Unit 13, Wipeout 2048, FIFA, Echochrome, and Escape Plan. And I get the glowing blue light of perpetual pause where the thing won't come on frequently too.

Granted this has been happening on two different Vitas, I'm assuming the software is to blame. But for all the awesome things the Vita is offering, can you remember a handheld that was this buggy and fragile on a system level? I sure can't...

Anecdotal, a good majority of people don't experience those issues.

My DS had three dead pixels when I first picked it up. Does that mean the DS is shit? No. Defects happen, especially in the advanced technology of today.

Precisely the reason I wanted to start this thread, to get some anecdotes on others experiences and shine a light on these major issues. After dropping over $600 on launch, I'd at least expect the thing to play games reliably. For me, it is not delivering consistency.

This would have made a better post in the official thread, thanks for bringing more negative light to the Vita!
I've had mine for a few weeks now and it has froze once.

I haven't encountered that. Can we seriously not start threads for single issue problems that have been addressed in other threads already? I know it asks a topical question but this has a great chance of turning into a hate thread, not sure why you thought this was a good idea.

My beef is with Uncharted's dumb combat system.
I actually hurt my pinkie somehow reaching in middle of playing to do the stupid swipe for hand to hand combat. My pinkie is very sore....

It only turns into a hate thread if people decide take it there. I think it's a fair question, one that would get lost in the "Vita is awesome, how awesome is Vita" launch thread.

replace Buggiest with Best, and yeah, sure.

Rayman demo made my system freeze once when it was starting up. Other than that I have had no problems at all.

My god, you should file a lawsuit!

It's a firmware problem, Sony have said themselves already.

So, why a new thread?

Isn't that what they said 2 months ago when it launched in Japan? I'm surprised they didn't get issues resolved when they basically had a beta launch of the system to fix obvious issues.

I haven't had any freeze yet nor any touch screen issue.
It always comes back from sleep like I want too.

I've had the Vita for a month and change now and hadn't had a single crash until an hour after installing FW 1.61. Been running fine since rebuilding the database after that crash.

I've had 1 freeze in about 15 hours of play, and that was caused by the now pulled Uit 13 demo. The only other issue I had was my WiFi not connecting after coming out of sleep.

I would say this launch has been pretty smooth running.

so your console sometimes need restart after you turn tn to sleep mode and you start a new thread with title : "The Buggiest Handheld Launch Ever? "

Hyperbole much ? System is new give it a time dude. So far handheld is amazing for me and many other people. Something like you said will probably be patched in near future..

Had it about a week and honestly I am super impressed with both the hardware and the software. I had instant buyer's remorse with my 3DS and my PS3 as well...so far I am extremely happy with the Vita and its performance.

Thanks for the feedback. It appears I may have the unfortunate luck of having two clunkers based on what everyone here is saying.

Can't wait to deal with Gamestop on getting a replacement for my FEB...

It very well might be a software issue. You might be hitting an infinite loop trying to do something that most people aren't doing. Maybe having a 'party' with friends is running in the background but when you resume from sleep the system can't reconnect to wifi and hits an infinite loop doing something or another.

I haven't had any issues with my US unit yet, watched some Netflix and close to finishing Uncharted. Goes in and out of sleep like a champ.

I haven't seen any reports of problems in the press with the Vita launch. In fact it's been downright quiet out there. Too quiet.

It's definitely an issue that Sony needs to address. I personally didn't run into any bugs yet but I've seen enough people in the Vita OT with problems mentioned in the OP to warrant a thread. It's most likely a software related issue so I wouldn't freak out just yet.

Had mine a week now and haven't experienced a single lockup, either hardware or software. Then again, I've only played Uncharted, Hot Shots, Super Stardust, and Plants Vs Zombies.

I suspect the freezes are all game software related.

Absolutely no issues whatsoever here. No freezing, quick boot-ups, standby mode works fine, and the menus are fast as hell even when I am multi-tasking a good number of apps.

And no dead pixels either.

one issue = buggiest launch ever? nah its just another topic with a TMZ quality title.

I've got this problem to occur 4 times, and while it does suck its not nearly as bad as the title makes it out to be.

Cannot believe they don't ever think of making a option in system setting for the O/X button. It is very annoying to us importers.

Even I know importing is not encouraged and at least the console is not region-locked...
