PS2 Gems that most people missed

This game has some of my favorite environments on the PS2. And now it's super cheap!
One of my top 5 PS2 games. It's a shame what they did to the sequel though. :/

I don't know if people missed it or not but

xenosaga3.jpg

was one of the best RPGs on the system. The mech combat was so good.

Please understand that today you are my hero. I had no clue that this even existed and after I watched some gameplay I must have it. Thank You.

Great fighter developed by many of the minds behind Street Fighter II.

Thanks for mentioning this so I didn't have to. If you even refer to yourself as a fighting game entuist this is a must play. Only reason it didn't do as well as it should've was because a lot of the DBZ fans were spoiled by the Z and Sparkling series. But please play this if you can.

Game was hard as nails but once you got used to it was great. Needed a sequel to iron out the kinks but it's not happening.

MY SUGGESTIONS

Best iteration in the Maximum Impact series. The only way you can get is to import it but it's worth it. Balances the game but Ash and Xiao Lon break it back up but it's still a great fighter.

The Rumble Fish is another fighter that a lot of people don't know about. Been one of my favorites since I discovered it and it's easy on the eyes too. Sega, where's part 2 on a console?

I know a lot of people slept on this until the Smash Bros. Snake thing but it's still a great party fighter. Does its own thing and does it very well. I'm still looking for the OST because some of the music is beyond excellent. This is on GC as well but the PS2 will suffice though.

Big shouts to whole MB Community for getting this game some much deserved shine. But seriously, this is the best game in the series and it's just a real deep fighter with a lot going for it. I really hope the community for this game can come together and put this shit on top once and for all.

The NEOGEO Online collection is a real great PS2 collection because of damn good emulation and lots of bounses as the series went on. This gets my seal of approval.

This has to be one of the most underrated fighters ever. I just love how unique it is and it's learning curve is just right.

Sequel to Power Instinct: Matrimelee. I really hope Atlus comes with a Power Instinct collection and Ancestor's Festival as well at some point.

bleach-blade-battlers-2nd-ps2-pack.jpg

This was a great sequel to the first. Fixed some balance issues but some characters still dominate though. Great game, Bleach or not.

The SEGA Ages series has to be one of best things that SEGA ever did. Whether it was updated graphics, new modes or bonuses this collection did it well. I suggest you check out what the whole series has to offer and you'll find something you like.

I hope somebody finds something new like I did.

Too many people didn't play this. It's one of the best of "old school" and "modern" ever. Also looking good, simple to play. Superb level design. POWER UPS GOD DAMNIT. Double jump. Perfect lenght. Perfect difficulty.

.

I own both of these but didn't play them (like a lot of games in my library). I was just looking at them yesterday and felt like firing up Army of Zin. Maybe I'll do that soon.

Is it me or is the PS3 library really humble compared to PSOne and PS2? Previous Playstations each amassed a library incredibly rich in quality, "instant classic" titles, arguably more so than the competing consoles in each respective generation. But when I look at This List for example, I don't see or feel the same thing. Perhaps it's because I've been a lot less into gaming lately and I'm not familiar with many of those names, and also nostalgia playing tricks on me. I really love and appreciate the PSN on PS3 library though, probably because it's more nostalgia/retro oriented :lol

Looks like Maximo was also a victim of Generic Rage Syndrome :lol

Hold the fuckin' phone, Brave Fencer Mushasi has a sequel????? Where the fuck have I been!!

And you get it almost for free, bought my brand new, sealed copy for 15€. Had no time to play it yet I just hope there is no Steamtower. The first one had so many innovative stuff(day and night circle in a Action RPG?), shame it didn't get the praise it deserved.

Using a darker color in the background of the boxart= generic rage? It's the exact same character design...

Finally played GodHand last night.
Only about 20 miniutes worth, and most of that was getting acclimated to the controls, but wow, the game seems really fun.

I just remembered that Europeans also got Psikyo doublepacks like Gunbird 1 & 2, Sengoku Ace/Blade, Dragon Blaze and um...a game that comes with Dragon Blaze, and maybe a couple Strikers games? dunno.

Kept buying Xenosaga for the half nude robot chick, stayed for the RPG goodness. Hell, I even liked the second one. :lol

After reading this thread, I decided to skim the pre-owned PS2 section in Gamestop. Strangely, they have jacked all prices up a nudge! Most pre-owned PS2 games were between 20-35 $US! I clearly remember they were much cheaper a while ago, and mostly always below 20 $US.... I don't quite understand that particular strategy. (It was a scandinavian Gamestop.)

probably the only person that played this game
and liked it..

though that cover art suffers from MM1 syndrome

edit: better cover art
I have this.
Got about halfway through it while raging at it the entire time, but I don't really remember what pissed me off so much about it.

Haven't played it in years. I'll probably start it over and do an entire playthrough someday.

Thanks to this thread I ordered Echo Night Beyond yesterday.
This game really had a certain something. The game always reminded me of Enemy Zero on Sega Saturn. ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Enemy_Zero )

It's been a while since I played Echo Night Beyond, but I seem to remember it had one annoying game mechanic, possibly an insanity meter, or something similar. Will have to see if there is an Action Replay-code, so I can finish the damn thing.

First off, I totally have to agree with Top Shop, Wizardry (I love the soundtrack -- had to import it), and Robot Alchemic Drive -- all awesome games. I'll go with two more that, sadly, I may be the only person that enjoyed them :lol

This one.

Ugly as hell by PS2 standards, but interesting gameplay and a great soundtrack

Yeah, it didn't look so hot -- but I imported the soundtrack since it was by Yasunori Mitsuda :) Didn't regret it at all! And, I really enjoyed the uniqueness of gameplay and theme, even if it looked crappy -- I mean, ugh, look at the cover, too.

Shadow Hearts definitely is one game that changed how I feel about picking up games randomly and trying them out. It also happened to be so good that it's hard to get the same feeling again. Such a good game.
Sequel is better, though

Dude it's hard to say this, but there is a good chance that we won't see another console as the PS2 in the future.

Didn't like the first one that much (The combat was too slow for me, but loved the characters), for some reason (that I still don't understand) I finished the second one knowing it wasn't good (and it certainly wasn't!). And then I played the third one... my RPG of the generation!
But that ending was brutal... you are not suppose to do that that to your fans!

Mentioned this in the racer thread, and it bares repeating here:

Shinobi was obviously better, but I still liked this one too:

I have wanted to play this game so bad. I have bought 2 used copies of it and both were scratched to all hell. I think this game just doesn't want me to play it. :(

Maybe some day I will plunk down $60 for a good condition copy of it.

My recommendation is the import Shadow Tower: Abyss. With all the love that Demons Souls received, this PS2 import should be checked out by anyone who was a fan of that or Kings Field. The sound and overall atmosphere are amazingly creepy. Maybe it will be fan-translated some day. Either way, its still fun to play w/o knowing what's going on, because the story is never over-bearing.
