PS3 2.76 Update

Anyone else having issues getting the update? I keep getting a DNS Error 80710102, anyone know how to fix this assuming it isn't an issue with Sony's servers?

I was actually starting to get the error out of thin air like a week or so before the update.

The thing with me was, I had the DNS IP set as the routers IP. So when my PS3 tried to connect to the Internet, it actually connected to the router, which then redirected it to my ISPs server.

I fixed it by setting my ISPs DNS numbers on the Playstation.

From what I've been reading though, people without routers have problems as well so it could be anything.

When I had this problem, manually setting the DNS to my ISP's wasn't good enough. I had to use OpenDNS.

I've tried that but it slowed my connection down. Webpages were lighting fast, faster than ever but my dl's capped at less than half of its potential. Im in Canada so maybe thats why.

I've had router problems ever since I moved my shit in the same room but I just turned my router into a switch and havent had problems since (a week now!!)

Being in Canada may be part of it. I don't remember where OpenDNS's servers are but best case it's going to be at least 80-100ms more on each domain name resolve, and as bad as 300 if you're cross country. Not to mention their servers are free and open to everybody worldwide so they're likely seeing higher use than your ISP's own servers.

Umm ... wtf are you doing to your discs? While I'd be quite happy if they allowed installs, if you didn't have an issue with those discs at purchase (which means a defect, and can be returned), that means you fucked it up.

How did we ever live without installs for the last several generations? Christ, BD releases are actually far more durable than CD and DVD titles. You must have an awful lot of coasters.

I'm not doing anything to the discs, they're perfectly new and without scratches, unfortunately they lock up within about 15-20 minutes of play. I have around 40 or so PS3 games, these two and NBA2K9 frequently lock up, the others play perfectly fine.

LBP has been returned 3 times to Best Buy, each copy freezes. I'm on my first copy of Killzone 2, but it took me 5 tries to get to the part where you finally land on the planet and take control of your character (autosave can be a nice feature). I've deleted the game data and reinstalled it for each game, no help. I play my PS3 out in the open and elevated off the floor with a fan blowing on it, so overheating is not an issue. Other PS3 games that I've put serious time in like RE5, Warhawk, Demon's Souls, Valkyria Chronicles...etc, they don't freeze at all, they don't even lag. My last resort is to restore my PS3 to the default settings, but I need to archive my stuff first. I've googled the issues and some people have had problems with LBP freezing (offline, not online lag) and quite a few people on the Sony PS3 forums have issues with KZ2 locking up, both in sp campaing and online multi. They're still playable, its just irritating to reset the entire system every 20 minutes.

This is not normal behavior. Either something is wrong with the games, or your BD drive.

My bluetooth start to drop out after play for while but not by from this firmware, and it won't connect back by reset DS3 or USB cable unless restart PS3. So is it broken for good?

Until the next update, perhaps. Are you sure there's not some sort of sleep mode on your headset that you've accidentally turned on?

Could be, but it's always off most of time. :(

I will give a one more chance for next firmware, I will ring Sony.

So, due to all the discussion about download/install times, I timed how long ti took the firmware to download, install, and the reboot back to the main screen. 5 min 24 seconds. Granted I am on a rather fast internet connection, I am stll baffled at the 20min - 1 hour times some people have.

that clock is no joke
It's not because of the clock joke, it's because of the posting of a fake feature list. If I remember correctly one of the mods did the same in another firmware thread.

Moral of the story, don't make up features for a firmware release if they're not real. Even if it's for a joke.
