PS3 Cross-Game Chat Impossbile Due To RAM.

Right, my bad eagle eyes. Misread
What you mentioned about those games earlier, like with Red Dead Redemption, is true though :) The PS3 hardware should be powerful enough to run RDR better (on a side-note, i think that RDR worked fine enough on the PS3 just so that is said).

That's always been a very uninformed assumption.
What assumption are you referring too? The optimizing stuff is proven when looking at the best games, i.e Uncharted 3 and Killzone 3. Those games prove what types of graphics that the PS3 can do.

What makes you think the majority of upcoming multiplat games are going to be superior on PS3? I think for the most part they are going to very similar at best.
I dont think that. I just wanted to mention that he said "changing" and it is too late (or at least not very feasable) to do something with the older games that are already out. But the days of where multiplatform is much better on one console is pretty much over (might be a few exceptions here and there depending on the developers).

Not really.

I am the exact opposite of this.

When I play a game, I'm all about immersion in the, y'know, GAME.

Funnily enough, I seeing gaming as being about playing games.

I don't really see how chatting with friends, about the GAME, takes away from the experience. Most cases it adds to it.

Everyone is different though it's all good, but I find being able to socialize(lol) with my friends while I play a game to be a really big thing.

"PS3 Cross-Game Chat Impossible Due To our software engineers being unable to fit it into the available RAM"

Fixed.

Immersion is a big part of playing a game... for me, anyway.

Then again, I get pissed off when people talk loudly and text in the theater during a good movie.

I'm funny like that.

xros game chat is something i don't plan to use , nor do i want .

my friend is playing uncharted and i'm playing resonance of fate ? i don't need to talk to the world during my rpg sessions.

I'm waiting for cross-console chat! I want a service that all 3 have and let's me chat with my friend playing his PS3 and I'm playing Xbox... not something like skype, but accessible from the XMB/Dash.

Well same here, but that is totally different though. Watching a move in public is not quite the same thing as just chillin with your buds online.

I rage when people do that in theaters lol.

Online is free on ps3 and pc so I have no problems with this, If I was paying for it (Xbox) then of course I would demand that type of service.

Free is better then paying for the same exact service when alls you want to do is play games online.

Paying to talk to friends and play your games online will never be 'superior' to anything.

came here to post this and i agree 1000000%

not really lol i just dont see how charging for online makes live superior, anyway about cross game chat im sorry to the people that wanted he feature :/ i personally didnt but oh well

While this sucks, I find this as good news in the long run actually. It's another reason to not fuck over the amount of RAM in PS4. They obviously are getting it through their head that RAM is important for not just games, but everything on the system looking at Vita. Not to mention devs like Epic and Crytek have made it very clear they want as much RAM as possible.

Also Battlefield 3 is evidence enough that RAM is very important. The massive 64 player trailer says it all. Not happening no matter what you do with the current amount of RAM in the current consoles.

I'm expecting PS4 to be a freaking beast at this point. Vita is godly tech for a handheld and if they actually are flat out saying "Ya, we didn't put enough RAM in the PS3", then that just screams "we learned are lesson" to me. Focus on making the system a leviathan and just stay away from a new media format this time since that's what drove the price up to the heavens and back.

Is this also why mics sound so shit over PSN?
Not a huge issue for me, but people's mics always seem to suck.
People can use any cheap Bluetooth headset, so that affects the quality. Sony should bundle the official headset with every PS3 if they want that to change.

I thought this was pretty obvious especially with a game like MAG. Zipper was always saying how they were very restricted on memory and that they weren't even able to add custom soundtracks to the game because of it.

I find the whole feature useless for the most part anyway, it felt like people were bitching about having it just because it was on Live and not that they actually wanted it.

Oh well I never use cross game chat on the 360 either. I just hate getting bothered and caught in a conversation when I play a game. I guess its cool if you're in high school or collage and want to play with friends that way but for an old guy like me it just doesn't appeal to be.

can't they just use a add-on to

ahem add more RAM ?

charge like 20-50$ for it

add another 512 -1GB of Ram
Wouldn't be worth it at this point. PS3 will be 6 years old in a few short months and it would mainly be for features and not games. All the big titles for PS3 are too far into development at this point and I sure as hell don't want to see Naughty Dog putting all their resources into another PS3 game that wouldn't be out until fall 2013.

It's time for new consoles.

I'm the same way. When I had a 360 I never used the feature. But I don't begrudge anyone for wanting it. They seem to be learning from past mistakes so hopefully the PS4 won't end up with these kind of drawbacks. Gotta give props to MS for their OS software prowess.

But XBL wasn't hacked and shut down for 3 weeks was it

XBL was shut down for a few weeks. But... what exactly does that have to do with anything. Paying server does not mean you'll get better security. Free service does not mean you'll get worst security.

Zee-Row said:
It's not impossible for XBL to get hacked. If someone wanted it to happen bad enough it would happen.

Not disputing that.

But who did it happen to? Sony/PSN. If he wants to troll I can troll right back.

My friend just got a Ps3 last night and we played killzone 3 online both using the official sony headsets. He was shocked at the poor quality of the voice chat along with other little problems. Hope the next Playstation gets this in.

When was XBL shut down?

The PS3 official headset sounded better until MS released the codec upgrade now they sound exactly the same.

Your friend has poor hearing.

Your trolling only works if money was actually a factor in the incident.

XBL was down to high useage during the holidays if I remember correctly.

Not money, but Sony's incompetence. Dude's didn't even do anything spectacular to get the data.

So troll stands.

meh, CGC would have made a bigger difference to the PS3 than slighly closer textures to 360. I'm sure something tiny like 10mb would have been enough for it.
No Fucking way! Developers needed more Ram much more them the hand full of people that would have used CGC.

No cross game chat sucks, but having your textures worse on your games then their XBOX counterparts would suck even more for Sony.

Basically, Microsoft made an more efficient OS.

Voice chat quality depends on the game you are playing and on the headset you are using. Voice chat in BlackOPs using TB PX21 is great, I never had a problem with quality since I dont use BT.

Back on topic, I call bullshit on that Sony, the only reason Crass-Game Chat can't be implemented correctly is because of how inefficient and horribly optimized the PS3'Os is, they should blame themselves and not the lack of RAM.

32mb for the whole 360 OS?, that's mighty impressive, I wonder why the PS3's OS uses up so much memory when on the surface it looks a lot more simple that the 360's.

That's probably because an O/S UI is generally no indication of its memory footprint. Nor is the increased use of white/negative space any indication. Besides, doesn't the PS3 O/S have more features and functionality than the 360?

Stoffinator said:
So why didn't they tell us this year ago?

Because it's possible and they seem to have just moved on because they can't get the OS optimized enough to get it to work, best way is to just tell you it's impossible.

Nice glad to know you were there playing with us.

Seems like SCE isn't going to change the PS3 much. Everything is being held back for PS4. I don't fault them but I would like to see a redesigned UI and PS Store for PS3.

I hope this ends the endless stream of "when are we gonna get cross game chat?" questions on the internet. It's not happening, get over it.

If the PS4 has 4GB Ram it will cost 599$ again. Can't wait for the posts on neogaf in 2014"LOL! SONY YOU NEVER LEARN!!!"

Melfice7 said:

PSVita seems to indicate that they have learned from all the major mistakes of PS3/PSP.
The platform is an assurance of SCE's future direction.

Diprosalic said:
wasn't that clear already for like 4 years?

Right. I think they even said it at one point. That although they have lowered the memory requirements for the OS, they have freed up more to the game developers, rather than keep it for OS improvements, so they can't claw it back now.

Makes perfect sense to me.
