PS3 fanboy gets some stuff right; GAF astounded

What do you mean your release schedule?

Just need a little confirmation before we bring this runaway train to a halt.

Yeah Snatches - what gives? The Dogtown bundle is the outbreak monkey - if that was widely known before the original post, then the original post is fanboy froth. If it was top secret, then he may be on to something. Give up the info.

snatches said:
He is a fanboy with an industry job. of which there are many. all he has done is talked about things we essentially already know in a gamefaqs rant style. Just because he knows a few things doesn't make all his statements "true".

Those high res textures can be compressed, and uncompressed textures can bottleneck a system, whether it is PS3 or 360. Sony fans will jump on anything that seems to confirm that the PS3 will perform markedly better than the competition, while everything we have been shown puts the systems on a very comparable level visually.

Believe your eyes! Not some gamefaqs poster with enough time to type out safe assumptions and some retail distribution knowledge.

So where the heck were you at two weeks again when every videogame forum in the world was calling him a crackhead?

See this is the crazy stuff I'm talking about. Now he's an insider with some knowledge, but lies about some stuff. How do you know? You should have told us 2 weeks ago that Resistence was over 20 GBs.

;)

Maybe his "friend" knew about it. :lol

I've just been quietly observing but i think it's finally time for me to jump in and say:

:lol :lol :lol :lol :lol :lol :lol :lol :lol

I distribute video games to the retailers you know and sometimes love

To be fair, I had no previous knowledge of The Genmay Incident prior to last night, when I entered the thread and witnessed a bunch of fairly intelligent posters going goo-goo-ga-ga for what appeared to be a load of ****ing shit, hence my adverse reaction to it.

I don't know to be honest. I post at work, mon-fri 9-5 PST. When was that thread posted? But I would have jumped in and given credibility to his claim on the PSP bundle, and then LOL'd at all the ps3 fans yelling 360pwnd when all he claims is higher rez texturez and shit we already knew. Like for example Oblivion PS3. Which is a story I dropped here for the world to see in April, months before anyone else discussed this "rumor".

Great I dearly appreaciate the hard work that you do. Now do you get to view certain videogames before they are released? If so tell us about your adventures.

GAF would love a good story. :)

I do get beta versions of games to play on debug units before release, but not too far in advance, usually a month at best. I'm not sure what adventures that would lead to however. Look at the threads I have started to give you an idea of what and when I share info with GAF.

Snatches we all know that you are the man here at GAF. Your post has been to probably 20 different forums with each and every PS3 and 360 game becoming true.

BUT this guy is saying waaaay more than what you think. Let me get the other stuff for you.

typhonsentra said:
So what kinda job would this guy need to have to be privy to some of the info he got right?

Chances are he would have to be part of the buying team at a pretty heavy weight retailer or work for Sony. Just guesses, but he sounds like a legitimate source of info. My issue is with what this info actually means to gamers. Which is really nothing we don't know. Having extra space on a Bluray disc is nice and all. But I have yet to see a game that looks and performs better for it. I have yet to see a game for PS3 that couldn't be replicated perfectly on 360. I will not take an obviously biased persons opinion at face value.

I will believe it when I see it.

Regarding Virtua Tennis 3 sure a few things could be added but you'd need a crapload of additional content if you wanted to max out a DVD let alone a Blu-Ray.

Career mode is obvious but that was essentially a bunch of matches organized in a manner that resembles a tennis career. It's not something grand that will eat up tons of space.

Also none of the games the original post talked about don't interest me either.
Heavenly Sword? Even if it did look like Advent Children I'd still take GoW 2(3?)/DMC4/NG2 over it.
Resistance? 40 players or 400 players I'd rather wait and see how UT2k7/Halo 3/LP/??? are for my multiplayer fix. Some of my favorite multiplayer matches have been in "meager" 16 player games. Also never cared for the Ratchet & Clank series.
Killzone 2- Saw/Played Killzone 1...NEXT!
LAIR- Sounds boring. Not an RTS fan and meeting Drakengard ain't exactly the grandest of ideas.
Oblivion- X360/PC versions say hi..well they've been trying to for nearly a year now but nobody listened apparently. Hi-res would be keen but not worth another 100+ hours to see it.
Warhawk- I still "meh" everytime I see it.
-------
Unfortunately the guy didn't talk about the games I'm interested in (projects by Sega, Konami, Capcom, Koei, Namco, etc) so hey five for five awesome and all that but it's all eh to me.

I can't afford a PS3 and posts like this make me lament the fact. Although I could have done without reading **** all the ****ing time in his post I'm interested.

It'd be nice if I could just fall into a large sum of money around November(course looking at the launch titles there's still nothing I'd want to buy :) ).

Hey Snatches this is all the other information that he said was going to be revealed true in due time.

Hey guys I have a list of stuff that still needs to be proven.

1. Said the launch title lineup was 30 games, but at the moment it's 15. But he said it's changing all the time.

2. Says that Heavenly Sword has been given a nice upgrade in the graphics and that it now has a "God of War type violence" upgrade. So this game will be more violent a.k.a. Gaffe's vision. You know how violent that game was.

3. Says Killzone 2 is Sony's big secret weapon. KZ2 announcements will be made around the launch of the PS3. And that it does look like the video from E3 2K5.

4. LAIR won't be out until Summer 2007 at the earilest. Battles are more RTS like where you influence tides of battles.

5. Oblivion will come out on the PS3 with high-res textures due to the Blu-ray disc and the PC will get a special update.

6. 95% of PS3 games will be on BDs, while EA is the company out of everybody that might not be using them for the time being. This is due to them making games for the lowest common denominator.

7. He has played LAIR and said that the motion tech is used in a big way. Says that not having to use the sticks to fly the dragon frees up the sticks for "other" things, that we will find out soon.

8. NA will get 700,000 of the first 2 million units for the first shipment, then an extra 700,000 will be shipped again to NA before Christmas (1.4 million total) while the other parts of the world gets the remaining 2.6 million split between them.
- The plan for the PSP is that you will be able to see what's playing on your PS3, by viewing it on the PSP. Think location free. This feature will probably not make launch, but will come later.

9. 200 new PSP games shipped between now and Christmas.

10. You know about the disaster that was UMD movies? Well there’s a reason for that. Usually Sony works with companies who license their products and lay down certain ground rules (pricing, features, etc). With UMD, they had a hands-off approach and movie studios just started releasing every piece of shit movie in their vault, without special features, at highly inflated prices. Sony is not happy about this at all and is going to try to jump start the UMD movie scene again (could take up to a year) by requiring that releases meet certain guidelines. Guidelines may include an MSRP limit of $15 and that UMDs include all the special features of their DVD equivalents. It’s possible that it may be too late to save, but Sony has a lot of muscle and the PSPs multimedia features are its biggest selling points… especially considering the target consumer is a male between the ages of 21 and 40.

So we really have 10 more things to wait and see if it becomes true.

Wal-Mart leak confirmed?

He comes across as a big enough wanker to be from Walmart, sure. Maybe he is a dev working on another first party Sony title? They would be privy to alpha copies of in development software from other first parties.

The first one (about 15 games at launch) will most likely happen. The rest we can only know after time. Though stuff like Heavenly Sword = Advent Children should not be interpreted as "news" of anything, just pure exaggeration. If anything I would expect Lair to be about 60-80% of what he described it as.

Maybe he'll get more correct, but at this point in time, the credibility we've given this guy on the basis of the PSP pack been correct has been shot.

jarrod/Speevy grasping at anything and everything to attempt to debunk something from Scrivener's list - check
a few insiders backing his claims - check
even the most level-headed, even-handed posters on NeoGAF doubt fading away - check

OH, snap! me thinks Scrivener gots a lot of peeps running scared... :lol

also, isn't Razoric somewhat of an insider? if he's on-board... O_O

So we really have 10 more things to wait and see if it becomes true.

1) Currently I have 10 games on the PS3 launch list, without first party and EA games taken into account. The 15 game estimate is good, but a little on the low side. I would bet on 20 games or so at launch based on info I am aware of.

2) Did we expect anything different but an improvement in visuals given more time with final hardware? Surely the game will impress, it was my best ps3 game of e3. As far as more blood goes? That is truly thrilling news. I would call this info legit.

3) Looking at the e3 video, the visual fidelity is not that impressive and is matched by games like MGS4 and Mass Effect. It might look like that video, but it probably won't animate like that video or play like that video insinuated.

4) Last I spoke to Sony Lair was Q1 07 at the "earliest", nobody expected it to release this year (right?)

5) Old news. Expect a GOTY edition for PS3, 360, and PC in March. They will all look fundamentally identical.

6) All PS3 games are on BD, including EA, period. And everyone is doing cross platform development that will make the 360 and PS3 versions essentially identical. If you are thinking any differently than you will be a sad panda short $600. No first party sony games shown would have problems running on a 360.

7) This sounds cool. Surely one of the very few compelling uses of the Wii-lite functionality of the PS3 dual motion controller is flight games. Maybe their will be more than one released per year this gen? who knows.

8) This is 100% accurate based on the forecasts from e3. Sony will in no way come anywhere close to these forecasts. I asked my Sony rep if they would have 4 million shipped by the end of '06, and he laughed and said he wished we had never said that number. It is a manufacturing impossibility at this point. Believe it. I am going to have a ****ing frustrating November thanks to Sony. Thank God I'll have Gears of War to come home to after long ****ing days of saying "out of stock".

9) :lol :lol :lol :lol If you wan't me to post the PSP release schedule for the balance of '06, I will. This is one of the strange contradictions with this guy I don't understand, but whatever. Some stuff he knows, some stuff he is seriously off base.

10) Sony will not let UMD die that easy, sure. They will definitely make another push and failed attempt at marketing this format as a viable solution for movies. Surely the practical part of your brain is already laughing though, right?

Well Resistence does have 20+ GBs of data on it so it couldn't be on the 360 unless it was on 3 disc. *shurgs*

I never said to not believe him. look at my breakdown above. I just wouldn't think this "analysis" would change anyone's mind about PS3...

doesn't MGM pretty much own half the movie industry? doesn't Sony own MGM? :p

Sony owns Sony Pictures and MGM. They folded Columbia into the Sony Pictures group. They are nowhere near half the movie industry. Probably less than 10%.

The implication that this new PSP bundle is some sort of great big secret, that it was amazing proof showing how deep of an insider this guy was... is shot.

It's like many have been saying; at this point, it seems very much like a mix of best guesses along with a priviliedged position in retail.

This thread simply wouldn't have existed to this extent if the PSP pack was thought to have been very specific, and very exclusive knowledge.

While it is very specific, it's not very exclusive.

compression FTW. Surely this game could work on 360, and on a DVD9. If not, who cares about changing discs?

snatches said:

Eh, I'd give them a little more than that, but to say they own nearly half of the movie industry, either directly or "indirectly" (nice try by the OP) is incorrect.

Sony Pictures is having a good year, though.

It's not public knowledge; and because our good friend snatches didn't see it!

Confirmation of this knowledge means simply that this guy is either working in a priviledged retail position... or it could possibly mean more; but while his credibility isn't discredited any by this; neither is it bolstered.

I was going to float the possibility that Snatches is a lying sonofabitch, but then, he's also got credibility to some extent as who he says he is.
