PS3 Firmware 2.70 Out Sometime This Month?

I got kicked off PSN about a half an hour or so ago and I thought that was kind of weird.

Maybe that's when it happened?

What are we waiting on exactly, other than the few people who will inevitably come in and say something like "Hope they finally get in-game XMB."

I'd say most people are waiting on:

- clock fix
- cross-game invites
- voice messaging

that's all i've heard recently, although I think the first page has a lot more

edit:

Friends List:
- Voice Messaging is now available as an alternative to text after selecting a user on the friends list. Voice message recordings are capped at 30 seconds.
- Home Integration: Saved Playstation Home avatar photos can be selected as photo ID for Gamer Card/Friends List.
- Trophy number and Gamer Level are listed under Friend names for quick reference.

Gamer Card & Trophies:
- Gamer Card layout has been changed to more closely resemble the Playstation Store aesthetic.
- Past Trophy information can be viewed in detail by selecting “Recent Trophy History” option.
- Newly aquired trophies auto-sync in the background
- Server infrastructure for Trophies has been optimized. Resulting in faster retrieval time for Gamer Card and Trophy information.

In-Game XMB:
- Loading time for In-Game XMB has been drastically reduced, resulting in a more seemless in-game experience.
- “Theme settings” options while in-game is now available, allowing custom themes to be applied to the In-Game XMB.
- Internet Browser can now be accessed while in-game.
- Voice messaging and voice chat options can be used while in-game.
- Options that cannot be used in the XMB during game sessions are grayed out (but still selectable) to eliminate user accessibility confusion.

Misc:
- Other slight UI tweaks and enhancements.

If the new firmware does indeed bring the "log in with multiple PSN accounts" function, I truly hope LBP is patched, and RE5 as well.

No one even gives a fuck about the clock, people just keep mentioning it because its fucking funny that it has been this way for so long.

I know that, but what's the big one? My imagination has wilted since they released the last few things I wanted.

Cross-game voice chat and cross-game invites seem to be the most talked about outstanding features (i think?), possibly because of Live comparisons as much as anything else.

The rumoured list includes one of those feature, I think, (voice chat). But it includes lots of other things too that overall make the rumour less likely..imo.

Yeah LBP is perfect for that. I wonder if its only 2 or if it can go up to 4.

lmao i think it'd be funny if they left it alone.

it seems like something so simple to fix...yet it stays.

keep the lulz going

Here are some things I would kill for.

-Universal cross-regional funds converter
-Show what PS1/PS2 games people are playing, show what movies/music they are listening to.
-Standard screen capture tool for all future PSN releases
-Create your own folder icons for GAMES

I'm pretty sure showing what PS1/PS2 game your playing is not possible, because the disc is not giving off a name at all. Same with DVDs. Some Blu-Ray do, but some don't too.

I would kill for it just to say "Playing a PS2/PS1 game" or "Watching a DVD/Blu-Ray".

I don't think you want that >.>

Sure I do, of course the users could choose to have it inactive, but seeing all those porn and pirated videos would be worth the update.

As a matter of fact, I might be tempted to rename regular game clips to beastialityporn.avi

I'd like the following:

- replacing the information bar with a decent rss feed reader
- ability to import custom avatars
- more visualizations for music
- ability to sort friends into categories (useful for people with near full friends lists)

Add in the ability to take off icons from the XMB, I don't want that life with PS shit on my XMB, nor do I need that damn home icon. Fuckin A.

I wish, but what is stopping my from putting a picture of my balls and revealing it to all of PSN? Would be cool but it would never happen.

How about they add some more avatars? There's not even a Solid Snake avatar for crying out loud.

Nothing but it's not like they couldn't moderate it. The reporting tools are in place and they could impose harsh consequences for the people who do stupid things like that. More avatars would make more sense and really should be expected in every firmware update.

Can't you login with two accounts in LBP? I'm pretty sure that when you press start on the second controller it asks what account you want to use. It has to be one of the accounts on your PS3 - or "Guest", which is anonymous.

Beaten... doh
It doesn't actually sign the other player in for LBP. You just use their name, and it doesn't record any of your stats in regards to trophies and whatnot.

They said they'll implement an actual log-in when it's implemented into the firmware, something that Insomniac said they were also waiting on for Resistance 2.

So.. i assume that they are gonna release the update before thursday... maybe today ?

Hmm, I'd actually like the ability to save internet connection settings like on the PSP since I switch between a wired and wireless connection depending on where the console is.

All the PS1/PS2 discs have product ID's that could be checked against a database and displayed.

I don't care about the other stuff, but this is a good idea. I can't remember who on my list is from GAF and who isn't (except for some obvious ones).

This could easily be done with an on-line DB. Each PlayStation Game has an unique ID. Just download the appropriate icon and you are done. Same for DVDs.

Then again Sony would have to set up a database, which I don't see them doing. Would be cool though.

When I play a ps2 game, it doesn't even keep me logged in. The XMB when I press the PS button also turns to whatever resolution the game I'm playing is running at. Though I suppose that's the fault of ps2 BC not being fully software emulated.

When I play ps1 games though, I stay logged in and it still notifies my when I receive messages, etc. The XMB (or what little appears) also stays in 1080p.

So I think your idea would only be possible with ps1 games.

Man, it would be so awesome if they managed to pull off full software emulation for ps2 BC. Then everybody would have it, and their wouldn't be so many issues with the current hardware BC people have. Like how your controller disconnects whenever you start/stop a ps2 game.

I would really like this also

No need to be logged in while playing the game. It would download the data once when you insert the disc, possibly caching it.

Is there a list of games supporting the screen grabbing feature introduced with 2.5?

They will when the Year of the Tripple comes. Seriously, they should fix the damn clock.
