PS3 PREORDERS (EB/Gamestop) ... what SKU and what games did you get?????

I don't mean to be a buzzkill, but I got this sneaking suspision R:FOM is going to be the PS3's PD0, I mean did you see the hype for PDO before they released the 360?

Thing is "Resistance" doesn't actually suck.

Are you just saying that or have you actually played it?

CoD3 (even at 30fps) or Resistance? What is your opinion? I have a p.o. for CoD, but I might change it.

cod3 is treyarch, so i doubt it'll be as good as cod2...which felt pretty tired itself. i'm waiting for more info before i commit to resistance, but it's definitely more promising than cod3. i did very briefly play resistance at e3, but i didn't come away with any strong impressions.

I have played "PD0" and, from what I have seen (and read), "Resistance" looks way more promising.

Between "Call of Duty 3" and "Resistance", I have to say "Resistance". I finished "Call of Duty 2" twice and, honestly, it looks very similar to "Call of Duty 3". Basically the same game in a different setting.

So, between a not so innovative sequel and a promising new franchise from a great developer, I choose the latter.

By the way, is "Call of Duty 3" 30 fps confirmed or they're working on it?

Resistance singleplayer and online is absolutely great. Online is like the first time you fired up Halo 2 on Live though this time you get that good next gen feel as well. Everything feels so perfect, running and playing totally smooth, awesome weapons, map layout..etc. We were playing a game filled with 30 players cross pacific and it was still totally lag less.

I drew up the map they had at TGS (Nottingham):

13th in line at Gamestop (Madison, WI) out of 14 systems available. A few people showed up for the 15th system and we had to break the bad news. I also love the corporate statement the manager read once they brought us into the store. "Pre-order is no guarantee, blah, blah, blah". 60 GB, no games. Some guy in line said that the PS3 HDD was upgradeable. I didn't think that was case. He also said that the price in the US fell so he was probably confused...

Core pack.
Resistence
MotorStorm (in december)

I really want one more game, but I'm not sure which, I'll have to check.
First in line : )

I have no idea for sure. I was reading in some other thread that the PS3 version is only running at 30fps, while the 360 version is at 60fps.

i got the 60 gig
resistance
ridge racer
motorstorm

although ill probably just end up with resistance. too many good 360 games coming between now and christmas plus the wii is launching days later with zelda. not to mention a **** ton of ps2 games to deal with

I got 60gb version. No games, nothing really interested in. I'll probably get Resistance once launch gets a little closer. I was 6th in line and my gf was 8th in line. The store only took 13 pre-orders.

Did anyone else go to a GameStop that had fixed numbers of premiums and cores available for preorder? It sounds like most folks were able to preorder whichever they wanted. At the store I went to here in NYC, they had 16 consoles available for preorder--eight premium, eight core--and as the 11th person in line (including the two employee slots), I was only able to preorder the core (which is fine by me since it now has HDMI and I don't need wifi). It doesn't sound like too many stores were doing it that way.

Yeah, except PD0 doesn't "suck" either.

it was rushed, unfortunately, and didn't live up to expectations, but it was a solid game, Had its moments of sheer brilliance, and was ****ing fun as hell online (even now, I hearken back to the days where we'd get someone in our squad, toss him in an exo-suit, COVER it with proximity mines, and send him kareening into the enemy base for massive damage :lol ).

Resistance looks to be a different story, meanwhile, because it DOESN'T have years of built-up expectations and angry Nintendo fanboys dogging it. :) this game will be mine at launch, if motorstorm is delayed.

That's pretty much what I meant. It sucked for me because I was expecting so much more, not because it's like omgtheworstgameever.

It is. 2.5 SATA

So ... so far the top choices are:

1) Resistance: Fall of Man

2) Ridge Racer 7

3) Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion

.
.
.

(other misc.)

Well lets look at the Similarities between R:FOM and PD0:

1> HYPE...HYPE...HYPE...
2> Crazy weapons with even crazier "Secondary Effects"
3> Single Player that "Doesn't Suck"
4> EVEN as good as "3" is Multiplayer will be EVEN more intense(actually I think PD0 has got this one nailed down, because no matter how many players your game supports in MP if the service is a MYSTERY that isn't a good sign!
5> Level Design( How many DIFFERENT R:FOM levels have we seen?)

rare sucks

Yeah, but I doubt Insomniac's ability to give us a great action game. The more and more actiony the R&C series got, the less fun it was.

Of course, the opposite holds true, too. Their pure platform games weren't very good.

60 gig, 5th in line. No one at the store I was at wanted the 20. A few didn't even know how much the PS3 cost. Most were going for ebay, the rest were mothers. One said she was saving it for her son's birthday...in March.

Nuts to preordering games. Nuts to games period, really. When I read that list they handed out I wondered why I was there at all. I'd somehow forgotten that Hot Shots wasn't launch, and I was surprised to see Motorstorm listed as March. Not that I was all that excited about Motorstorm - I barely know anything about it - but it seemed like a nice launch filler game. Hopefully that date was a sham. I'll get RR7 at least, and probably Resistance, though I'm not sure if that's enough to keep me from cracking and selling should PS3s start going for billions of dollars.

I'm think I'm going to try some lawyerly evasion and tell her it's a high def movie player. She hates vidjuh games but has really taken to watching movies on the HDTV. I'll just get some Blu-rays she likes and she'll be none the wiser. The day she realizes it plays games (which could be months from November) I'll be all "oh yeah it plays games too, how 'bout that? What will they think of next?"

definitely start hyping her up about Blu-Ray but also say, "too bad it costs so much, maybe when it drops down to about 500... "

60 gig
no lines
no rucks
nothing

didn't preorder any games, will no doubt go on a frenzy buying all and sundry on launch day and buy all 6.... then the other 4 games before the end of the year... :/

60GB for me, was #3 in line at the store I was at.
Preordered Resistance, might pick up RR7 at launch as well...

It's crazy, it seemed that everyone knew about the launch at all the stores in my area. There are 3-4 stores nearby, and when I checked them at 11pm the night before, all of them had some number (2-8) people spending the night in front of them. By 5am all of them had at least 8 people waiting...I had to drive 20 miles to the other side of town to find a store where only a couple of people were waiting (I got there a little after 6am)...

60GB with no games.

Where do you live Argyle? My store (ft. lauderdale) had 3 people in line at 8AM and about 10 people by 10AM.

DCharlie I have to say I'm surprised you pre-ordered a PS3. ;)

I can't wait for the inevitable post-launch downer threads!

Honestly, I felt that PD0 had an AWFUL single player campaign with only a handful of decent areas contained within. By and large, it was crap. Level design was also very weak. The fact that they used those guide arrows to point the player in the right direction was very telling.

Another difference is the fact that Insomniac has never made a bad game. Not even close. Rare, on the other hand, has done nothing but produce poor to average titles over the last few years. You'll find some fans here and there, but overall, their games have not been stellar.

I really think Resistance will be a whole lot better than PD0. I should also note that Halo falls into those same 5 similarities, when you think about it. I'm not suggesting that Resistance is going to be another Halo, of course...

That is exactly the feeling I got. All the launch titles that seemed interesting would be available on the xbox 360 except Resistance.

Why struggle to pay more in order to the play the same games with slightly upgraded graphics?

If you have to struggle to afford it, you probably shouldn't be trying to buy one at launch.

Give PD:0 a couple of years and it'll go from only 'a disappointment' to 'it sucked' - just like DK64. :P

Once Halo 3 etc come out it'll be put in the never existed pile, we'll think back like geez even with all the sh*t it got back then.... was that game crap or what?

It seem weird not to buy Ridge Racer with a new Sony console, but I just got RR6 a month ago and I've got a loooong way to go in it. I guess it might be worth it for online since RR6 online is pretty deserted at this point. I really wish Motorstorm were a launch game. I'm not subsidizing any more of the bastardization of the NFS series.

That is not what I meant . . . I meant that you have to struggle (camp out in front of EB) AND Pay more ($499 or $599 for PS3 vs. $299 or $399 for xbox 360) to play pretty much the same games that will be available (or are ALREADY available) for the xbox 360.

The red lines are the platform exclusives:
(image snipped)

Thanks for that list.

Looking that those exclusives . . .
-Most are not available at launch
-NBA 07 is blown away by NBA 2K7 (which is on x360)
-Full Auto 2 is a quasi-exclusive since it is an enhanced version of an existing lame xbox 360 game
-Untold legends is unlikely to be as good as ES:Oblivion (which is on x360)

That leaves:
-Ridge Racer . . . not really my thing and probably not much better than PGR3
-Benji: Gays of the Blade . . . which I'm not interested in. Likely a Japanese button mashing swordplay game.
-Resistance: Fall of man . . . which I did pre-order

I think this is why most the pre-orders we see only order Resistance and/or Ridge Racer 7 or no games at all!

I'm still not sure that Motorstorm has been delayed or not. If it has however, this has got to be the worst launch lineup ever. I'm very excited to get my system, but one or 2 games that are evven worth getting if you've owned a 360 for the last 6 months is pretty bad. I'm guessing this is because so few systems will be available this holiday. I hope Resistance is superb because if not, I'll be playing Wii and FFXII on the PS3 primarily.
