PS4 Advertising Campaign Is The Biggest In Sony's History

Will we ever have a straight-forward ad, which basically says, "This is PS4. It plays GAEMZ."

This is not to say that I don't like these latest ads, but a basic ad with classical approach would be a nice throw back.

PlayStation 4 Launch |OT| Greatness Awaits

since we can't really have a Ps4 thread anyways. launch thread can be about people not getting it on time ;p

That's not entirely true.

wow, that ad

its pretty sad thats one of their ads, not only because they still have to explain these things, but i feel it also transmits the wrong message instead of helping them

It's fucking awkward is what it is. Sony is beating the shit out of Microsoft in terms of word of mouth, I can't help but think there really isn't much MS can do at this point to stall any momentum.

it look like Sony have good marketing team this time. their ads focus on speaking to all people (no weird ads like early PS3 days) they also uses the nostalgia factor which is something only Nintendo uses so far and they know where to show their ads, it's clear they've learned many things from their PS3 and PSP mistakes.

I can't have a session watching anything on TV without seeing that damn Taco Bell PS4 commercial. That shit is everywhere. I've also seem the official PS4 ad quite alot as well. Still haven't seen anything Xbone related which is weird especially seeing as tho they are the official NFL sponsors.

It's good that they're not resting on their laurels just because of strong preorders. I like the "all-in" sort of attitude they've got going. I admit that I'm surprised by the number of ads I've seen during football.

Yeah, been seeing ads on tons of channels. Excited to see Sony putting in the ad work they lacked last gen.

Looks like they really are going all in for this.

OK, now make one video that shows cross-game chat and some people playing shooters using the triggers without so much as touching a bumper. Win.

I never got used to shoulder buttons for firing on the PS3, much less using whatever those flappy things are where the triggers should be. Its like squeezing the thorax of a bug queen to push out her eggs.

Even my wife, with the TV she watches, has seen that Taco Bell commercial like a hundred times. And likes it, surprisingly. I'd say Sony is doing really well for themselves so far.

I was in a GameStop the other day and the nexr gen advertisements/posters etc seemed to be about 80% PS4 20% XBO. Anyone else finding this?

They need to save some of the ad money for their games they need big marketing push for inFamous, The Order and whatever their other unannounced AAA games are going to be.

Those were priceless. They were trying to be really edgy and abstract but they all just came across as really dumb and confusing. It was like a serious take on the Skittles commercials.

2 milions guys? Are you sure? This will be an insane launch xD

It was "over 1 million" at gamescom, but then Fergal Gara, head of UK Sony said that's a very low representation of the numbers (implying he thought they would say over 1.5m), Since then official reveals for Asia has been revealed and per orders are sitll happening, as of right now the PS4 is #1 in the short term best sellers (likely past 24 hours) on amazon.co.uk above GTA, Fifa, Batman and Pokemon and has been there since about Thursday. Also I believe Verendus (SCEE insider) speculated that he thought there were more than 2 million, but he didn't have the numbers and I think that was about a month ago.

I'm sure a lot of these won't be sold at launch though, you haven't been guaranteed a Launch edition for 2 1/2 months in the UK.

When your selling millions of consoles, it allows you to up your advertising budgets.

Even at this early stage, it shows! I barely watch TV and I lost count on how many PS4 adds I've seen already.

Where's Nintendo at with theirs? Lowest in company's history?

This could be a really stupid question, but what is the benefit of extensively marketing a device that is ostensibly sold out? Why not delay the campaign till next year?

In the U.S. at least, it's very important to develop your mind share during the holiday season, because that's when customers are paying attention.

Guaranteed preorders may be sold out, but there will be lots of units available at retail. Beyond day one there will be more every week or two. And of course exact allocations aren't knowable, and not every store bothers with pre-orders. If you run a retail store you want your customers to come back again and again hoping to find the system in stock. Who knows what else they'll buy while they're in?

In the meantime Somy builds a lot of brand awareness and hopes that you'll hold out for their product instead of going with one of their competitors. They've done this before, and have a pretty good idea of what works.

Didn't MS put their money towards billboards? I've seen maybe 2 in NYC. And the football commercial once. PS4 perfect day plus taco bell i must have seen at least 30+ times and i hardly watch any tv.

The Wii sold over 600,000 in NA at launch and around half that in Europe. So far it looks like the PS4 is on pace to beat that provided they have the launch day units.

They were out of touch with the gamers. MS really kicked them in the nuts and they woke uo, started taking online play etc seriously for once.

The Sony we witness now is the one that has to challenge for the spot, much like they did in 1995. The Lou Reed and nostalgia ad are nothing short of amazing and they bring the message over.
