PS4 Arcade Classics - Japan only titles

I got a PS4 Slim in October and am really enjoying Hamster's Arcade Classics line up. After playing Darius Burst CS I wanted to play the original Darius which isn't on the the U.S. shop so I made a Japanese PSN account and downloaded it. What other titles in
the Arcade Classics line on the Japanese shop are worth buying? I have about 1,100 yen in my wallet I want to spend. Or if there are other great import PSN 2D games or shmups (I already have Battle Garegga) please make some recommendations.

I love arcade archives by hamster,
The Japanese version of renegade is miles better than the us version.

Also, wonderboy in monster land is epic, although it might be heavy on jp text, hopefully it gets released here in the usa soon.

Thanks, I might get Renegade, I already have WB in Monster Land from the Wii Arcade VC.

Sadly not for PS4, but the PS3 has some awesome PSN exclusives that are fine for English speakers. Mostly PS2 Classics but this is a JP PSN exclusive and absolutely worth $10:

Dark Awake aka Chaos Breaker by Eolith, devs behind several late-era NeoGeo fighters, including KOF 2001 & 2002.

It's pure kusoge but it's incredibly fun.

Thanks, I was planning on checking out the Japanese PSN store on my PS3 as well, what else should I look for on PS3 for 2D/arcade imports?

I think they have a pretty big selection of SHMUPS. I'm not totally sure, tbh, because I was mostly looking for fighting games at the time I was buying stuff from JP PSN. Both genres tend to have a lot of English text or little need to know Japanese.

You should just browse the list of Japanese PS1 and PS2 Classics.

PS1

PS2

Not sure what you are looking for but Japan has a ton of shooters and fighters in the Classics sections that the West did not get.

^^^^

Thanks again, is PS3 region free for PSN titles though?

Yup, all regions.

There's some English stuff exclusive to Europe or NA, too.

Where do you buy your JP PSN cards?

I was buying instant digital codes from Play-Asia.com. At the time a 1,000 YEN card was $11~ and now they are $13. 30,000Y for $33.

Dark Awake is incredibly shitty though. It's more like Ragnagard than KoF with those rendered sprites, and the character designs are pure D&D rejects, including half the cast being "Troll", "Orc" etc.

You are missing the whole point of why it's awesome! It's awesome because it's shitty! The actual gameplay is really imbalanced and there's tons of infinites and shit, but it feels pretty solid, not real stiff and janky like you might think. The presentation looks awful with those low-res prerenders and the sound is jank as fuck, but it all adds to the humor. The character voices are ridiculous

It's not a serious experience. It's best for a casual fuck around time with friends. I've definitely gotten $10 out of it just messing around with buddies while getting a buzz on.

Japan-Codes.com, they have them for $11.47, cheaper than other places I've seen.

Cool, thanks for the info!
