PS4 controller appears at the FCC

Funny, I replaced one of my dead DS3 batteries with one from DealExtreme and it's rated at 1800mAh.

Bluetooth v2.1 is a disappointment.

Bluetooth 4.0 data rate is 10% of Bluetooth 2.1EDR for devices using BLE profile but If BLE is not used, throughput is 24Mb/s for Bluetooth 3.0+ via a 802.11 link but adds 4ms latency compared to sub 1ms latency of bluetooth 2.1.

Bluetooth 4.0′s data rate is ten percent of the Bluetooth 2.1 for devices using BLE profile devices but If BLE is not used, throughput is 24Mb/s for Bluetooth 3+ but adds 4ms latency compared to sub 1ms latency in 2.1.

Thanks for the explanation, seems 2.1 is better suited to game controllers by allowing for lower-latency operation?

SIXAXIS DC 3.7V 30mA (UK launch, no rumble)

DUALSHOCK 3 DC 3.7V 300mA (Controller launch)
DUALSHOCK 3 DC 5V 500mA (Included with Slim PS3)
DUALSHOCK 3 DC 5V 500mA (Included with Mini PS3)

MOVE Navigation Controller 5V 500mA (Controller launch)
MOVE Motion Controller 5V 800mA (Controller launch)

DUALSHOCK 4 DC 5V 800mA (As per FCC)

Seems like its the same battery as Move Motion Controller.

mA is not an unit of measure for battery capacity, it's a unit for current draw.

Are you guys sure about the Micro-B connector? In the high-res photos they released, it looks like a Mini-B, the same type used on PS3. I don't want to have to buy new charging cables, dammit.

Look like Micro B USB 2.0 to me

anybody else thought about how much the new controller and games are going to costs at launch?

They seem like they will be more expensive, I dont really want to pay 70 bucks for games & controllers. :/

Will 360/PS3 games take a ~$10 price drop?

This is REALLY early for something due out in November. Unprecedented even.

Just saying.

It's not really. As I mentioned, both the PS3 box and controller appeared in the FCC database in May 2006, before its November 2006 launch. So it's right in line with that. Except for the box, which I guess they'll submit after the reveal.

Shit is getting real.

Is it just me, or did they subtly change the shape of the handles?

E3 reveal: We're actually going back to the shitty, worthless rounded cones we've been using since 1998. And you suckers got excited for actual improvements!

:(

Ah.. much bigger picture than I was looking at earlier, thank you. :) Looks like you are correct, sir.. which means I need to buy more cables. Shit.

If you're now in the market for new cables, like I am, I would highly recommend Monoprice. They have 15-foot USB>Micro cables (so you can sit on your sofa and still play while charging) for about two bucks each. I need to buy some more for my phone anyway, it's the same connector.

It's a micro b which is on like all the smartphones now and I have micro b everywhere so micro b is good for mmeeeeee micro beeeeeeee \o/

Does anyone know if someone who tried the DS4 say if the triggers are different in terms of pushing them down? I know they will not prevent your finger from slipping but any other changes like the feel of it when pushing down?

Why does it matter which version of the Bluetooth standard a controller uses? Isn't that pretty much completely irrelevant?

I think the fact that modern mobile phones come with Micro connectors pretty much forces their hand: Staying with Mini would mean reduced flexibility in charging the controller for most people.

Don't expect batteries from places like DE to be truthful in their stated capacity. ;)

I just knew the newer standard was more energy-efficient. I didn't know about the differences in latency.

The DE battery is at least definitely physically larger than the OEM one. Battery life on it is great, but the DS3 has always had great life.

No one here has smartphones? I have a lot of micro b....
Oh, I do too.. and they're all only three feet long, which is probably all that will come with the system, too. I tried getting to a save point playing the original Assassin's Creed on a dead controller. The only time a game ever made me motion sick, because I was sitting about two feet in front of a 47" TV.

Couch-charging FTW.

I guess in that case I'll know where to start looking for some bigger DS4 batteries ;)

People hoping for Mini USb are not able to invest in a 2 euro cable I guess.

Well, I already have a nice Mini usb charging stand. But a DS4 most likely wouldn't fit in it anyway, so no big deal.

I just hope the stupid thing can charge from a standard USB charger without requiring feedback like the DS3 does.
