PS4 CPU overclocked @ 1.8 GHz

I know 2 CUs are disabled for better yields but yields of the R270x are great so I think they could just aswell enabled them. I'm also quite disappointed we're not seeing a 850-900MHz clock speed on the GPU seeing how full load temperatures are pretty low.

This could be what happens if the open platforms get their stuff together (get rid of Windows basically :P ). AMD has revealed Puma, the successor to Jaguar which is twice as powerful in the same power envelope. GPU development seems to be slowed down my slow nodes (28nm since 2011), but are dropping in price fast. The R9 290 which is literally more than twice as powerful as the PS4 (40CUs, 64ROPs and 4.8TF vs the PS4 with 16CUs, 32ROPs and 1.8TF) is $399. Not too shabby for playing 30fps PS4 games at 60+. It has twice as big of a memory interface (512bit) which makes the GDDR5 memory even faster :D

Not biting until more confirmation. Why are Sony so hushed if true?

It means reviewers can add another point to all the launch title scores! Hurrar!
Or they can just do it like this:

InFamous : Second Son is a great game. The story is great, the gameplay is great and the characters are great.
It's maybe a little short, but, the PS4 has a 1.8Ghz overclocked CPU.

We give the game a 10 out of 10.

I don't think they just randomly upped the clock, engineers probably saw they had a little it more room temperature wise and performance wise and they went for it. after heavily testing the console under heavy gaming/load.

Yeah, but there are always oversights. Like the weak rubber on the controller, the HDMI thing, etc etc. You can't possibly test for everything under all conditions.

I'll take this with a grain of salt, it seems pretty sketchy. We need some confirmation.

I'd be surprised if this is true because in those BF4 digitalfoundry performance comparison videos, when heavy physics based stuff was happening, Xbox One did maintain a higher framerate than PS4 (suggesting that the Xbox One CPU was faster).

You haven't controlled for other factors... EG the differing resolutions etc..
