PS4 failure to transfer

I picked up a PS4 slim, connected it to my wifi, then started to attempt a transfer. It didn't work. I'm able to connect to PSN just fine (running a connection check also comes up OK), but as soon as I want to actually start the transfer I get an error code nw-31175-7 and a message saying it timed out, unable to connect (after a minute or so).

I've tried restarting my router, checking if it has the latest firmware (it seems to; it's on automatic updates), selecting one account and not the other (I don't really need my western account on this machine), to no avail.

Every time it gets stuck in "preparing to transfer."

I can't call Sony right now. Does anyone have any ideas? Is it feasible/possible to move my old save data over manually, disable my old PS4 account, etc?

Does anyone have any experience with this? : (

So you're transferring between two PS4s? If that's the case, don't do it over wifi. Just connect both PS4s together with a LAN cable.

They have to be connected via LAN for the wifi transfer anyways. Tomorrow I might try to connect both via LAN (as soon as I pick up a second cable).

Looking up results on google and being unable to find responses, successes, as well as seeing the first result being "I called Sony and they told me my unit was faulty" makes me worried.

Connect one end of the LAN cable to ps4 og then the other end to ps4 slim.
Set ps4 og to transfer and ps4 slim to receive.
That's how my friend did his.

Yeah, that's what I'm getting at. Connect PS4 direct to second PS4 using LAN cable. Goes much faster and is much smoother than going through the router.

Oh I understood that, I don't think OP knows you don't need to have a router or any other equipment to transfer.

You can transfer with just one cable connected to both systems.

If it's a Wifi transfer, which is timing out for me. If I want to connect to my router wired ...

When connected to the network with a LAN cable (wired)

Two LAN cables (sold separately) are required.
Before transferring data, you'll need to do the following on your current PS4™ system:
Sign in to PlayStation™Network.
Update the system software to the latest version.

1.
Connect your new PS4™ system and your current PS4™ system to the same network.
Use the LAN cables to connect both systems to the same router.

It looks like I'll need two.

That's not what Sony says?

Just trust me on this. You only need one. It's how I did it when I got my pro.

Connect both PS4s to wifi so they can sign into PSN.
Connect LAN port on PS4 1 directly to LAN port on PS4 2.
Start the transfer.

It will transfer directly over the LAN cable.

Both PS4s are connected to Wifi.
I have both PS4s connected via the LAN port.
I start the transfer

"Preparing to transfer."

Error.

Make sure they are both connected to the same wifi. I had the same issue when my ps4pro was connected to the 5ghz and the OG ps4 was connected to the 2.4ghz.

Even though I used the LAN cable to transfer it gave me the time out error because of the two different wifi connections.

Good luck.

Edit:

IT'S WORKING!!!

I did two things.

1. I deleted one user from my SCEA account so I didn't have two regions on one system. Just in case this mattered?
2. I rebuilt my database like suggested.

I'm guessing #2 is what fixed it and that something was fucked from too many manual reboots due to disc ejecting issues.

Thank all of you beautiful people!

So does it get stuck after you press start transfer, is there an error or does it just start and stay at "preparing transfer"?

What had been happening is that it would start and say "preparing to transfer"and that would just sit there for a minute before timing out.

But it worked now. : )

61 min to go. I guess I'll just play gravity daze while I w- oh.

Glad it's working. I vaguely remember having to rebuild the database on my OG PS4 before it would transfer to the pro, but I might be imagining that.

edit: ah nevermind, didnt see the update

do you have your PS4 account locked (user profile) with a password? when i tried to do a transfer of my brother's OG PS4 to a Slim i had problems and couldnt do the transfer so what i did was turn off the password requirement to log in with his user profile and that worked
