PS4 has built quite the buzz since it's reveal.

Dat Wii U

How can more people be interested in the Wii than the Wii U? That graph seems a little off.

Wii has a new version, and people may still think WiiU is a Tablet for Wii, or a portable new handheld. I guess it proves that something is up with WiiU marketing?

I'm almost certain the design of the box is finalized and they deliberately decided not to show it.

Me too.

The only thing I can think of that would maybe (remotely) had a chance to cause them to delay the unveil of the housing is that late stage RAM boost. Perhaps the engineers said "aaah maybe this needs more vents". But that is a super long shot. Even if they showed the box they could easily say "this isn't totally final" and no one would care. It was deliberate.

OK Sony everyone is fucking pumped!!! Don't fuck it up with a Crazy entry fee or crazy ass price walls for your services. You've got this, just take it easy and tap tap tap it in.

just reading this from edge http://www.edge-online.com/features/the-making-of-playstation-4/2/

PS4 was talked about as being a pure games machine. Was that politically a challenging thing to go through Sony corporation, considering its music and movie businesses?

I think the main point there is we needed a clear focus of what our next generation console was going to be and what it was going to be about, and that clear focus is play. So, from the ground up, the way the systems been architected and the partners we’ve gone for, that is our clear focus. But that’s not to say it not going to have other multimedia features, because of course gamers enjoy all sorts of other entertainment and services as well. So that’s not ruled out, it’s just something we were communicating, what our core focus is going to be for our proposition, and there are no compromises in that.

ps4 sounds so good and it should create more buzz as the weeks go by leading up the launch. i hope sony finds success in this system.

This was a problem from the very start. Us enthusiast gamers during E3 2011 could barely understand what it was.

Anyways, this is fantastic news. Sony is hitting the right spot.

Good. I hope Sony continues the PS4 momentum. I want this console to do good damn it. I don't want Sony to go anywhere :(

It'll be tough as the months go on. I predict most casual people who are interested now to eventually go "enough already. Just release the fucking thing" as the months go on and a bit more info is released here and there. That's the danger of unveiling possibly 8 months early in this low attention span age we live in. It wasn't as bad in 2005/2006 as it is now.

Really? That worries you?

Yes it does. It seems a little "last minute" if you ask me. Trying to get ahead of MS so lets put this quick conference together before E3. Ive never seen a company have a press conference for a specific product and then not actually show it.

And i know whats going to be said: "oh people go for the videos not the actual box". Well, the box is supposedly coming out this year and its not even at its own reveal conference. Ridiculous.

18 million views is definately a lot, but you have to keep in mind they're supposed to be 150 million ps360 owners around now.

You obviously don't know what the conference was about then.

If they're smart, they should open up preorders sometime after E3. And also do a Gaikai preview for Plus owners at some point.

Well of course it's creating buzz, it's the PS4. That's hardly surprising is it.

Well we were all paranoid about the new "gaming" consoles, consider all the talk that went around about MS bringing in a cable box, this was a relief to see at least one of the consoles will be focused.

The announcement created enough hype to keep you interested in what is going to be on the PS4 but also restrained enough for you not to feel like you know everything/ don't need to search.

It keeps the hype up as people still want to see what is to come ( we all know E3 is going to probably be the biggest ever)

This is why I personally am happy with how the announcement went, if i see the xbox announcement and get excited, there will still be that voice in my head that says " wait till the true ps4 reveal"

Especially when apple and other companies show things and then release them a month ore so later.

On the other hand, they've already done the heavy lifting. The "mission statement" for the platform is out there, and they can focus their E3 presser on games.

One of the guys at work I see once a week. He comes by and takes the stuff that needs to be shredded... patient information and what not... anyway, we talk about games in the few minutes he comes by, today he came by and said. "What do you think of the PS4? I'm pretty excited."

A grown man, telling me he's excited for the PS4... Sony did their job.

They repeatedly made a point about the services being the main thing about PS4. All network stuff.

Clearly they just wanted to save the housing for E3. Get a little more press. The spec is final of course, we're just talking about a plastic shell.

I think it was smart in many ways. Sony wants to stream to multiple devices eventually, I think they want the PlayStation Network name out there front and centre.

Um. Look around you. Note the forum. I think you'll find many such grown men. Myself included.

seems like you should see him more than once a week if you catch my drift.

Sony is paying out the ass to get that video showing all over. Almost every other video on youtube is the PS4 ad for me.

He doesn't frequent forums. Doesn't even know what Gaf is, so I think they did well.

Make a separate video for the actual box, then another one for the Networking, and another one for the launch games.

Actually, Sony's presence on the internet is pretty solid: PSBlog is really a great place, I love the forums, and their Youtube channel is pretty hot. Their Facebook page also has a LOT of fans, moreso than the 360.

Everyone loves a good story.

Besides that, they are just hitting all the right notes. The PS4 sounds fantastic from not only a gaming standpoint, but from a development standpoint as well.

It worries me when something coming out this November doesn't even have its final design yet.

The 360 launched in November 2005. We didn't know what it looked like in Feburary of that year...

18 million views is definately a lot, but you have to keep in mind they're supposed to be 150 million ps360 owners around now.

And imagine if some people watched it multiple times! Next-gen doomed!

Looks like Sony's new marketing team is doing it's job.

This for sure. They finally hired people who know how to spend the money actually advertising the product instead of designing crying baby dolls etc.

It really is shocking how often the PS4 ad comes up on Youtube.

I don't care about the actual box. The OS design and getting launch software is much more important. E3 is going to be really important for them and MS.

well it's fine so far for viral marketing. let's wait until an actual TV ad is up.

I thought it was about the ps4. Stupid me actually expecting to see it. Damn my logic.

It involved the PS4, sure, but the overall message was a statement to core consumers and especially to developers about what their direction is. It wasn't a pitch to consumers to go buy the PS4 as if it were in stores, it was "we will be better this time around, wait for E3" kind of thing. And if you honestly think Sony, a hardware company, is behind schedule on their hardware as much as you claim, I can only laugh at you.
