PS4 has built quite the buzz since it's reveal.

Oh boy.

Plus the ad is being played before virtually every Youtube video this week which accounts for a large portion of those views. A similar video that received a huge ad push was the Samsung Super Bowl ad which after 3 weeks is sitting around 21 million, so this one is definitely tracking better than that.

Those ads are not views until you click on them and get redirected to its page.

not true, Sony can opt to allow their ads to be skippable (you've seen this amirite) and if they do (i'm sure they have), all of those views count. they'll disregard the ones that people opted to skip. seeing as how this is the PS4 and it's a cool short video, i'm sure a lot of people decided not to skip those. Sony has disabled statistics for the video so there's really no way for us to find out, too. i know i've personally seen this plastered up all over the place.

Are you guys saying Sony is paying YouTube to put a 1m43s ad in front of videos and people don't skip it?

Why would you not skip such a long ass ad that is skippable.

Speaking of videos I really liked the PS meetings intro montage.

That single video showed more identity and gave me a better feeling of "Hell yeah PlayStation" then anything to do with PlayStation All Stars.

Do you think the new ad company made it or was it a internal thing? "The best place to play" seems to be the tag line Sony are going with right now so the new marketing guys probably had something to do with it.

The war against reality theme also reminds of old UK ps1/ps2 ads but with a modern, less creepy twist.

Well they do say "We didn't build a box" in the video...

E3 will be all of the above. It will have pricing, hardware, software, media applications, online applications, games, and release date.

Like any other E3.

Somebody please tweet this at Ben Cousins (the ex ngmoco guy who's always droning on about how consoles are inevitably doomed and mobile/phones are why)...

That montage is really well done, and the song in particular is great. It'll be interesting to see what both Sony and Microsoft have up their sleeves in the coming months.

Not that surprised. I think there seemed to be an expection that the home consoles were all going to suffer because of what has happened to the wii/wii U and handhelds. I think the next gen is going to be huge again, i'm just not sure nintendo will see much of that.

Yup. The ending of that vid from 2:48 always gets me! So many awesome PS memories.

I was really hoping that the playstation meeting would go a different way than it did. It starts out with the lights off, one light comes on, Kaz Hirai dancing by himself. Harlem shake song starts. The drop. Every major developer is on stage humping PS4 consoles and giving the audience the middle finger while dancing with the Dualshock 4. The screen flashes; Kingdom Hearts 4 CONFIRMED, Half Life 4 CONFIRMED, LAST GUARDIAN 4 CONFIRMED. PS4: OUT NOW! Lights turn off. Everyone has to fly home.

Sigh... it would have been beautiful.

if i didn't keep track of gaming news and stumbled upon an ad that said "PS4" i'd sure as fuck watch it

Its cute to watch people pretend that PS4 hype isn't going to be affected by the next Xbox announcement. Rose tinted glasses indeed.

This buzz is the exact opposite of the PS3's 'buzz' pre launch.

I doubt that. I'm sure ps3 had plenty of buzz in it's day (and this knowing of 599 and all that)

heck i ebayed one on launch day for 1200 dollars...prices fell drastically fast, but at one point they were extremely in demand.

The PS4 seems to be built on the opposite philosophy of the PS3->easy to make games for,no crazy custom parts,no hyper arrogant Sony etc. that's the kind of buzz I'm referring to.

It depends on what is announced. If the Nextbox has always online and blocks used games, you'd better believe the PS4 hype will be affected by the Nextbox's announcement, but in the opposite way you are implying it will be.

Very briefly, you see the legendary "The Beginning" launch commercial for PS2. It's the one which advertises the PlayStation 9. Those were the days when PlayStation had really amazing commercials. The Kevin Butler commercials brought back good PlayStation commercials but now that his campaign is over, I wonder what they will do for PS4's launch.

"Ladies and Gentleman" was the best PS3 commercial.

I can't believe people are still crapping on about them not showing the box. The idea would be to spread the reveals, whether it be the design, the price, the unannounced games, the release date, the features, etc so that the console is constantly in the public conscience. They were smart to get in early and quench peoples thirst for a glimpse at next gen, but they were also smart to leave a fair bit to the imagination.

They've definitely done a great job so far of raising awareness and gathering some hype. Even my casual gamer friends have been talking about it as well as a few people who I wouldn't have expected to know about it.

I'm really interested to see how Microsoft responds.

Compared to the negativity surrounding the PS3 pre-launch last gen, Sony has done a great job fostering positivity towards the PS4. One of the only ways they can truly fuck things up is by confirming the rumor of blocked used games.

I think there's only 2 main ways for Sony to royally fuck it up and that's delaying it in Europe to next year (highly probably) and having a rather high price point that will put people off (I don't think it'll be too high but still be priced higher than the competition).

I think delaying in Europe won't make a difference. But agreed with price point, most sensitive for US market.
