PS4 launching in December in Asia

I'm still not buying the "no games ready" excuse for 2014 Japan launch. They could have had a December release with:

- Dynasty Warriors
- Drive Club
- Knack
- Killzone
- Call of Duty Ghosts
- Assassin's Creed IV
- Watch Dogs
- FIFA
- Battlefield 4
- Resogun

All exclusives or only PS3/PS4 versions. This is a much better launch lineup than what the PS3 had. Then in February they'll add:

- Yakuza Ishin
- FFXIV beta
- Infamous
- Hohokum

Why not do this instead of releasing everything at once now which makes no sense??

Simple: Japan's console industry is moribund so focus resources on markets that are not moribund. It's the same reason x1 will be releasing there sometime between feb and june.

Do Japanese games really, really want to buy the console 2 months from now for what is present in the first list? Sony's market research and what I've seen on the Media Create charts say no.

Middle East is odd. From what I remember of Syria, PS3s and 360s were still extremely uncommon in mid 2008 (I had a cousin who had never even seen a PS3 until I showed him mine). The DS, PC, and PS2 were still the forerunners by far because of easy piracy. When people there are used to buying games for $2, jumping up to $60 is kind of a tough sell. Bluray was pretty nonexistent too thanks to DVD piracy.

I don't think the Middle East really matters much at all. I wouldn't be surprised if it was still PS2 Land over there.

Which ones are going to push systems given that the only Japanese-centric PS4 exclusive launch game is Host Girls on Stage?

Edit: and what big PS4 exclusive Japan-centric games will be coming out in the first year?

I'm thinking that "is there any reason wii u wont dominate Japan" was not as silly as it seemed, assuming th OP was talking about home consoles.

... It has Final Fantasy, Yakuza, and Dynasty Warriors, dude.

which are on other consoles and PC. What exclusive ps4 games are going to be there in feb that wont be their in dec? What's going to get people to buy that console?

Host Girls on Stgae?

The only other console platform that matters over there is PS3 though. It's like saying Titanfall won't do anything for the Xbone because it's also a 360 game.

PS3's launch was basically:

Gundam
Resistance
Ridge Racer
Genji

Wii U's launch:

Nintendoland
Monster Hunter 3U
New Super Mario Bros U

There's no point in having 10-15 titles all released at launch because no one will have time to play them all anyway. It's way better to spread out your releases more, and have a steady number of titles come out shortly after launch.

Think about this another way: Yakuza Ishin will do way better if it's out 2 months after the PS4 release with 500k-1m install base and little competition, versus releasing on day 1 alongside 10 other games and 0 install base. It would be seen more as an event and sustain the momentum shortly after launch. I just don't agree with Sony's PS4 strategy in Japan.

If titanfall had released in August on PC and 360, it would do almost nothing for x1 sales in Nov.

Of course they were waiting for Japanese games. This is the lineup, the bolded of which won't be ready until 2/22:

Assassin's Creed 4
Battlefield 4
Call of Duty: Ghosts
Doki-Doki Universe
Dream Club: Host Girls on Stage
Driveclub
Dynasty Warriors 8: Xtreme Legends
FIFA 14
Final Fantasy 14: A Realm Reborn beta
Hohokum
Killzone: Shadow Fall
Knack
Natural Doctrine
Puzzle 4 Sudoku
Tottemo E Mahjong Plus

Resogun
Strider
Watch Dogs
Yakuza: Restoration

I still don't see why, there's barely any system moving japan centric titles there. At least if they made it by Christmas they could ride the Christmas hype and then have these games following.

Honestly can't see how the PS4 can have a good launch with that.

If titanfall had released in August on PC and 360, it would do almost nothing for x1 sales in Nov.

FFXIV also did fairly mediocre in Japan all things considered (as in in terms of significant software that made a noticeable effect on the industry). System selling game it ain't. 200k ltd right now.

A good friend of mines who will be going home to Taiwan for a while has said that Sony did an event today and announced a launch date of December 18th and it will cost 12,980 Taiwanese dollars which equates to $441 American, I believe.

Updated November 6th:

Heads up everyone. Sony has scheduled an event in Hong Kong tomorrow and we are pretty confident it will be about the PlayStation 4. So it is safe to expect for news on launch date, pricing and bundles to start rolling out tomorrow. Do note that tomorrow's news will most probably be significant for Hong Kong and its neighboring countries.

'What about other countries?' you ask? Well, similar events have been scheduled for in Singapore and Malaysia - both happening next week and we are already on top of them. As for now, bookmark this page as we will be keeping you guys updated on the latest PlayStation 4 info for the Asian markets.

For all things PlayStation 4, keep it locked on to IGN.

When I google "PS4 Taiwan", a couple of websites give the same info.

I'm a Canadian expat living here with my wife. Got mine on preoder...looks like I'll only have a few days to test it out before I go home for a visit during the holidays. :(

The Middle-East is made up of many nations, many of which are not dependent on piracy and old hardware.

UAE release date is December 13th

I've heard there's gonna be a Killzone and Battlefield bundle. Not bad, really, as long as they're not bundling Call Of Duty, haha.

The wait for the Japanese launch is pretty frustrating. I don't see a single Japan-centric launch title that's worth a damn scheduled for February apart from Ishin. Seems to me Sony are just catering to markets in which they aren't going to be dominated by handhelds rather than any desire to have a quality selection of launch titles for Japanese gamers.

It's going to be difficult not to pick up a UK model when I'm back home for Christmas even with the £100 price difference and the bundled copy of Knack (which was pretty meh from what I played at TGS tbh).

Was able to alter my pre-order today according to the official Taiwan launch details. Killzone Shadowfall bundle (it comes with two other things, one of which looks to be a PS+ subscription, but not sure how useful that will be since I have a Canadian PSN account).

Also, Taiwan is getting the new PS Vita on November 16th. So I'll be picking one of those babies up, as well.
