PS4 Online Multiplayer Unavailable for Countries Without a Store

Instead of pointing fingers at Sony or MS look at any laws in those countries which prohibit this network feature.

This really sucks, but maybe if you get PS+ on another account you'll still be able to play. They did say you only needed one PS+ account per console for everyone to play online, so unless they actively block those countries, it should work.

Sony should just create a universal fake address people in outside areas can enter to access PS Store content.

Thread should be renamed.

It isn't blocked, it's just not available due to PS+ not being available for purchase in those areas.

However, we are considering every measure to offer PlayStation Store services to these territories as soon as possible.

Doesn't sound too bad. Maybe this will happen until launch.

Edit: And it doesn't seems to be a problem when they can easily make an account for another country, this is not the same as "blocking" the online part.

Sucks. :(

It's a shame that they can't just have an EU wide store, but I guess the differences (currencies, ratings etc.) make that impossible.

When I got my PS3 I registered under a USA account because I think Venezuela wasn't in the selectable country list, I'm guessing it would be the same case this time? Playing online with an account from another country which is supported, unless they IP block that is... :(

Which is fine. This article is misleading at best! Why would Sony take development time to develop IP blocking?

Yeah this is the worst part of putting online behind a pay wall. I wonder what the workaround will be. Probably create a fake address and buy cards for access.

Well I have a US PS+ account outside the US since my country's store is shit. Hopefully it continues to work as it does now and they don't add IP restrictions like MS.

This. Romanians will be able to create UK/US account and use store without a problem. Same happens with PS3, tons of countries dont have their own store.

Would this not force them to connect via UK or US based servers? Could be adding way more lag than they really want.

I think this means they won't be able to play online with accounts registered in these regions - A Romanian PSN account - and not that they won't be able to play at all if they register for a account in a different region.

is this really a big deal? Methinks no.

You can't even create an online acct in those nations. Of course you can't play online. Won't stop you from creating a neighbor country account.

anyone wanna edit that map and white out these countries?

Those countries are still able to play single player and can still get another account from another country that anyone there who wants to shop online on PS3 already has in order to play multi and buy shit.

It's still shitty that they don't have a proper store, and it's all the more reason for one unified store, if only for the whole of Europe.

However, they can at least work around it.

Stuff can be IP blocked. Just saying. I know a few users who tried this route on their PS3 and are not able to successfully make purchases or redeem codes from the store/ account region they chose.

Motto for both the Xbox One and PS4: "Can't get into our online ecosystem? WE DON'T WANT YOU."
Wrong.

You can still play offline and, just like now, creating an account outside your home country is possible.

This is a bummer, but not unexpected.

However, removing the workaround would be a whole different level of shit for all users.

For a bit i freaked out then i remembered that you can make a US account and thats it.

How are they supposed to pay for PS+ without a store?

PS+ Codes are region specific, and only work on accounts from that region.

This should've been obvious from day 1 when they announced PS+ requirement for multiplayer on PS4.

Create an alternate account that isn't registered to your region, buy a PS+ sub for that region, and voila.

common sense people, PS4 online is behind a PS+ subscription/paywall, if you don't even have an official store, how the heck were you planning to play online with your PS4??

Same as the PS3, no? There's probably a big complicated set of restrictions due to copyright when it comes to running a store in those regions. It's so easy to create another regions account on the PS3, I hope that remains the same.

They could make a store that just sold PS Plus, but even if they did, no one would use those accounts because they wouldn't be able to get DLC, or any content really.

Isn't this the same with the PS3 now? Where I am, PSN isn't officially supported, but I created a US account and just go online using that. I can't access Netflix, etc., but I can buy stuff off the PSN Store.

I gather that's going to be the same moving forward. I'm a PS+ member, too, so I kinda get the feeling that this will be the same unless they somehow pull the plug on online altogether.

Exactly, the problem here isn't that they actively block online.

I wonder if changing the region to some other EU country and using that store would solve this?
At least they seem to want to correct this.
