PS4 Online Multiplayer Unavailable for Countries Without a Store

as long as they dont start ip blocking only on PS4 consoles its a non issue, just make a fake account. But then again the PS3/Vita doesnt require Psplus for online gaming so its not like we can immediately confirm PS4 will have similar benefits.

Now, IP blocking for stores only on PS4 would REALLY suck, considering all the US ps1 only games i downloaded the past 4 years i did on the PS3 :/

Majority of unsupported PS3 users dont use their foreign PS+ account as background "fake" account. They use it as primary account, because their local account is worth nothing to them.

I live in UAE, the whole Bahrain thing has me worried...
Were those all the countries that are affected or just examples of some of them?
If launch is not world wide and I import, do I get affected?

I already called the over-panic people, but you shouldn't over confident either dammit.. We won't know for sure till launch (although I think they would make PS+ purchase not available already with workaround if that's the plan) and its still a problem for the casual.

Sadly, PS4 doublers will bever belive you... because you dont have proof that everything will remain the same. :-/

And Im sure everything will remain the same, Tretton said on E3 pressconf, if you have old PS+, you can continue using it on PS4. Everyone can get PS+ now if they create account from supported PSN store.

It'd help greatly if someone could just come out and say "You can use another region's PS+ to play online." so people can stop panicking, lol.

It's hilarious seeing people flying off the handle at this "news". Easy workarounds, exactly the same as it was with the PS3, but OMG HORRIBLE NEWS WHY SONY WHY!?!

The constant flow of good news has to be stopped. Even if it is just finding out that a current policy with the PS3 is continuing with the PS4.

I would think game stores that sold the PS3 in those unsupported countries probably advised customers on how to create an account in a neighboring country?

Try explaining to an 11 year old wanting to play his/hers day 1 Drive Club edition that he/she must set up a fake psn account and do all these work arounds to get credit card to work etc to play the game online. I'm 37 and I still had to use a step by step guide and struggle with the payment options to buy my first game from a foreign store.

I agree, that this is not for everyone but at least it's possible. And it really only is for a few countries that will hopefully get their own store soon.

Dem step backwards.

I suppose Sony had to make some fuck ups at some point.

At least the PS4 will be available in his country at launch. Still, Sony needs to fix this, stat.

Fixed thread name:
PS4 Online Blocked for Countries Without a Store [Age old solution: create account in supported country and buy PS+]

This is same as PS3 users did for years...

OK, old thread name with update:
PS4 Online unavailable for Countries Without a Store [Age old solution: create account in supported country and buy PS+]

This is same as PS3 users did for years...

Fixed. Don't think it's blocked, just not available due to the paywall and lack of the option to buy PS+.

They can probably set up an account in an approved country like you can with the ps3 so hopefully this won't be problem but its still pretty shitty nonetheless.

It might be a grey zone but I doubt that a store is allowed to help their customers fake their name, adress, CC number etc.

This isn't an issue at all, they can simply make an account for another country & get ps+ through there. At least sony aren't completely blocking them off.

I'm not even sure why country-specific DIGITAL stores exist. If a particular game has licensing issues, just IP block it or something. But it's absurd that entire countries are not allowed to give Sony/Nintendo money just like this. I haven't used my Mexican PSN account in ages, I had enough when for some reason Spelunker HD never made it to Mexico.

IP blocking is WAY worse. At least with the current set-up you have the ability to get credit in the other store.

come-fucking-on

how is this a step backwards?? It's literally a side step. Read the thread. This is non news.

People are really digging for the negative playstation news, it will be like now i have an account in nearly every supported area, simple.

Wouldn't it be just like getting access to US Netflix from EU using unblock-us or similar IP bouncer services? Much easier than setting up a fake PSN account imo.

I know that features are usable on every account if just one has PS+, but we don't know if the multiplayer is cross-region. If it is, that'd be great! I hope that's the case, tbh.

That would be some restriction, lol. Especially seeing as PS+ games are cross-region across a system, and the fact the console is region-free. Even on PS3 you can even redeem an online pass on an account from another region, and still play online on your account.

I don't blame you for being worried though. Hopefully they provide a streamlined solution for those affected instead of having to use a workaround.

Sony - 8 countries won't support online at launch

Microsoft - We'll be launching with support for 21 countries

Total current number of countries in the world - 196

Math

Exactly. Just because there's a work around doesn't mean it's okay. Sony needs to fix this in any way they can.

Having to switch your connection setup every time seems a lot more cumbersome that taking less than 5 minutes to create an account once. Something which most people have already done in this generation.

1. The countries listed, as well as any other country that won't have a PSN Store available specifically to them (e.g. China) will still be able play games offline, including games that aren't even available in their country since the PS4 will still be region free.

2. If the administration of the PS Store is similar to what we have currently, then likely those countries affected can create an account registered in, and buy a PS+ subscription for, a country that does have access. Hell, I have an additional PSN account for Japan that I set up in that manner just to have access to some of the JP PSN exclusives. The point is that there are currently workarounds to people that live in countries without PSN support and until we hear differently, I'm going to assume that those will still exist on the PS4.

3. Tons of people here are assuming the burden lies on Sony to deliver. This is ridiculous. None of the raging in this thread seems to ask WHY these countries don't have support in the first place. The PS Store, and PS+ by extension, is a service that asks for personally identifiable information for both age verification as well as billing purposes. Every country has different rules when it comes to what kind of personal information a company can ask for, what it can store, the minium age that an individual has to be in order to legally give permission for such collection, minimum age for possession and use of a credit/debit card, forms of acceptable identification to verify age & residence, etc... If you live in one of the countries that doesn't have PS Store representation, take a look and see what your country is actually requiring of Sony in the first place. As a recent example, South Korean gamers had their PS Store access yanked virtually overnight last July because the government passed a law [Game Industry Promotion Act] that made it impossible for Sony to comply with given it's current setup until they released a revamped system that both complied with S. Korean law but also gave Sony the legal protection it needed so it didn't run afoul of it again. This was finally done last month. I'm sure there are similar stories in regards to countries that are just now receiving PS store access this year such as a few Latin American countries.

TL;DR: If they PS Store is not available in your country the issue is likely your government's laws, not a snubbing from Sony.

Yes.

I got a US/EU/JP/Asian account on my PS3, it should do the same on the PS4 since accounts and PS+ subscription carries over.

And most people here making it like a it's big fucking deal.

I guess I'm less comfortable with most here when it comes to unsupported workarounds. The problem with workarounds is that they can be shut down at any time.

Ive had an american psn account since launch on a japanese ps3 and im in the uk. Sony doesnt seem to care to lock everything down i cant see them going to xbone levels of lockdown in ps4. Im guessing status quo.
