PS4 Really Need a Better Way of Sorting Games

They need to allow us to get rid of all the clutter that never gets used. Playroom, Live from PS, Internet Browser, Media Player, etc need to go!

I want to get rid off Spotify and Share Factory download icons. They annoy me even more than the SingStar icon the PS3. Every time I change a theme, or a user, they both jump to the first in the media bar. I'm not going to download them, no matter how much they're pushed to me.

I don't have a problem with the library system though, as I rarily play games again after completion, and I currently only have the stock 500GB, so there's not that much space to build a library. The media bar shows the games I want to play, with the exception of PT, which I revisit from time to time. Even then, it's right at the top of the library.

I don't like complaining/criticising dev teams 'cause I obviously don't know what it's like to develop games/software etc.

But Sony's firmware team really baffles me. I don't know how they can just be that slow, rolling out these "big" updates for such minute features. Just what the hell are they working on half the time? Are they shared with another department? Does their firmware team act in another position in the company?

I get the impression that Spotify payed Sony to have that spot on the homescreen, at least for the time being. Otherwise why insist on it still being there after all this time?

I want to get rid of all those things too BTW.

But yes, folders. Just fucking folders. How hard can it be??

I can' understand why there isn't a search feature.

On the 360 I used search all the time - got me the game iw as looking for, searched across all the video apps I have for films i requested. it was awesome.

If you have a PS Camera or mic attached you can always use voice command to go straight to the game you want.

Saves trawling through my 113 item list. Takes just seconds to find any game you want.

They need to have a way for me to remove WWE Network from the 'games' section of the library. Should instead sit in the apps section with Netflix, iPlayer, etc.

But what's more frustrating is that they get a free pass from places like Neogaf; nobody seems to really care about the UI of the console

You must have selective viewing, or just ignorance.
If you look in the update threads, and the occasion threads which pop-up about PS4 features many people voice their opinion about wanting 'X' features. I mean, just look at the responses in this thread.
The reason why the Xbox One peers were more vocal is because the OS was slow and a complete mess when it launched.

I'm pretty sure Sony's OS dev team is just one guy. It's the only thing that could explain the sorry state of their development.

If so, that's no different from placing a paid ad on the front of the UI. It might be serve them to do that, but it certainly doesn't serve the users. I don't use Spotify anywhere else, and I sure as hell won't be using it on my console. I prefer to listen to the game music while playing, instead of something else I can listen anytime.

How about let me hide demos and betas from my library for a change? Yes, if you can't find the engineering time for both folders and hiding, just do the folder thing so I can make a folder named junk. (The option to hide is probably the easiest to implement- which could be done probably under 8 hours by myself, send me 40 000 usd in advance please.)

Sony is being ridiculous, 2 years after launch.

Also here's a step by step guide to Sony about hiding library items:
1) Add a serializable list of "elements to hide" to the configuration file. This is per user per PS4, do not even have to cloud that shit.
2) Add a "Hide/Unhide Library Item" option in the options menu when user hits triangle button.
3) Add a "Show all items including hidden items" option in the library sorting menu.
4) When listing items in the library , check for each element as to whether it's in the hide list or not, if the "show all items" is unchecked.
5) Add a hidden items reminder in small text if there are hidden items, at the bottom of the list.

I'll be damned if I can't do this inside of a working day.

Folders are a dumb idea. Clutters up the UI and makes the user have to micromanage. Sony is not incompetent to hold back that bad feature.

Better auto tags/filters would be good as would hiding items from your library but really I'd rather have stuff like YouTube share and Remote Play.

I just wish I could delete the icons for spotify and play share and all that stuff that I'll never touch. I'm all digital and I wish I could have a dashboard that's just my games. The worst thing is that these other icons periodically, automatically move to the far left (in front of my most recently played game) even though I've never clicked on them and never will.

It's the same as back on the PS3, when they forced that bloody sing star icon on us. Why do they do these things.

They aren't necessarily dumb, but I think they're less needed on the PS4. The PS3's 320GB could hold far more games than the 500GB of PS4. Partly due to the smaller file sizes, and partly due to the lack of physical game installs.

You should be able to remove the demos and betas from the library though. It also annoys me, that I downloaded the theme for Jupiter Ascending by mistake, and now its download link stays in the theme library.

Went into library, filtered by 'Games', third entry was Amazon Video. Ahh, good old Destiny Beta. Oh hi Netflix and YT, nice to see you too. Now you could say they are just tagged wrong but that never happened on PS3 (tho I still get angry when seeing the forced SingStar entry) and there's a separate section for TV&Video below in which they're too. The whole UI raises a whole lot of questions and could be improved tenfold by a few small changes, like why not use DS4's touchpad for something, anything?

btw: same for xbox one. Soooo annoying. :-/

At least on Xbox One you can hide stuff you don't want from the install list and pin the games you want to play the most to the main screen.

PS4 auto detects which apps/games you play most frequently and organizes your home screen accordingly. Your most played game will be the first tile you see; your second most played game the second tile, etc. But more sorting options are always welcome.

Bring back the XMB!

XMB was good for top tier options but anything deeper and it felt like you were disappearing down a rabbit hole!

It's utterly ridiculous they don't distinguish between games and apps.

Yeah that forced SingStar icon is utterly shameful. I remember the response on the PSblog, the woman in charge was telling everybody to deal with it. Great support.

The library system needs an overhaul in sorting and viewing items, and improved labeling to stop apps, betas, and demos from showing as games.

The home menu should have the ability to pin and create folders, but I'd much rather have meta data, where you can tag a game with multiple labels and have it register to a folder of each tag.

This is way too long coming.

There are so many things that are ass backwards with the PS4. Some of my most wanted "features" are some of the most basic things... folders, pin apps, custom background, sorting my library.

What do I want to see the Destiny alpha or Hardline beta still? It's really puzzlingly to me..

PS4 UI is a mess. The only thing it does well is to show you things you are not interested in/would rather not see.

Not to mention the option to switch the console off stays inside a menu. You can try and force me to leave my console in rest mode Sony, it won't happen.

I hate the PS4 UI, it's annoying.

I'd take XMB back any day, hell I'd even take the tacky ass Vita UI over it.

As always with sony, it's one step forward and one step back.

Sony is definitely not a software company and it shows in all their products. What I want more than folders is simply the option to hide freaking beta's, demo's and games I no longer have in my freaking library.

There should be a command line version of the OS or as close a you can get to that with a controller, that's what i want out of it at least since we are making wishes.

This excuse was just as bad in year one of xbox one in which everything sucked "but there's a easy way to do it with kinect"

Personally, I prefer the alphabetical library at the end of the dynamic menu.

It would be nice if I could actually remove crap that just sits in there. I don't need to see the shell of 25 betas that I've been a part of that have actually released at retail over a year ago. Or demos that I didn't care fore and uninstalled.

What the hell is so hard about letting us delete stuff out of the library? This should be basic.

If they're not going to let me delete the PSNow, etc. apps at least let me re-arrange them into rows.

Row 1 - Games
Row 2 - Apps
Etc.

Most people don't care. This may be news to you but sharing and community features are more important than micromanagement

I don't think that's true. It's just something people get used to. If you gave them something better they would appreciate it. I certainly would.

And let me change my damn PSN ID already!

Is it really that hard and time consuming to implement some kind of folders/micro management system?

I was pretty surprised that there was no folders or library sorting when I got a PS4 in December coming from a PS3 that was massively more fully-featured not long after launch.

At least let me hide the totally non-functional betas, the icon for P.T. that I can never download again, and all the goddamned video services I will never download permanently locked at the top while I have to scroll down three row to get to Plex.

I can't even keep enough games installed at once to have to bother with sorting and grouping.

Install space is the new limiting factor on the number of games I buy.

It's really not that bad honestly, especially when you use the 15 title limit.

There is a game's browser on the right side.

I think they should add folders, but it's really not even bad, a little overexaggeration of the problem here lol.

PS3 XMB was great, if it ran better. Still, PS4 OS is still world's better than the trash XBone one, even after their relentless redesigns. No clue how Sony made the superior OS and MS made the superior hardware. XBone is silent and sturdy, while the PS4 is rickety and sounds like a jet engine chewing up a car.

thebsystem of sorting your games by last played is the most logical way of doing it. Then if you need to find a game it's in your library so what's the problem?

I don't actually own any assassin creed games but I activated a free season pass or something for Black Flag, and so its permanently in the library tab even though I can't actually play it. the link in "my library" takes me to the store page to buy the game. That's stupid

I also have 4 different Destiny Betas or something as well as FF14 open beta and now battleborn shit

Sorting by install date is useless since I will uninstall ps+ games that stay in my library, and they're ahead of the games I want to actually play

Library is an ineffective way to manage content

I could really use a wishlist feature, tho
