Well they have 2 major exklusives with Sunset overdrive and HALO coming out this year.
I am sure this will narrow the gap (but of course not closing it)
The issue with arguments like these is that they assume once again XBO is in a vacuum. Even if you genuinely believed that these two games would compel a decent amount of new people into the stores to get the XBO, they don't exist by themselves. Sony as well as exclusives this holiday season. They also have association with the biggest new IP of the year, and a slew of other minor products. IF PS4 maintained a huge sales gap even with Titanfall, arguably the biggest exclusive Microsoft is going to have for quite some time, why would Sunset Overdrive and MCC change things suddenly? Sony's going to have a bigger arsenal against those games then they did against Titanfall.
I think Sunset Overdrive is one of the most appealing game coming out this Holiday season, so I hope it surprises everyone and sells a billion units. But I do not think there's a compelling argument that there's a path for Microsoft to 'close the gap' given the arsenal both Sony and MS have this season. They'll both do better than usual, which would just mean the gap itself would maintain itself. Holiday season is going to be very telling indeed. I guess it depends on how aggressively Microsoft markets their system too everywhere.
I didn't say there was, but a majority of these titles are available on previous gen. I'm just surprised Johnny Casual is upgrading is all.
The thing is that there's not really one basic reason people buy a console.
Let's say you look and see you want inFamous and, say, DriveClub this holiday season. Well ok, you also know that if you want those you have to get a PS4. But those two games by themselves don't really warrant a purchase, perhaps. So then you start thinking about other aspects. "Well, I can play the best console version of Call of Duty, I like CoD. Well I can play the best version of Grand Theft Auto V. Well, hey, I like Assassin's Creeds game, and there's a next-gen AC coming out I want. Man, and there's a bunch of rad indie games coming out..."
Eventually, it starts an accumulation. You may think there isn't enough compelling -unique- software, but there may in fact be plenty in the eyes of someone else. Or someone else may think that the unique software in of itself isn't enough quite yet, but if you combine it with the other benefits of upgrading to next-gen hardware it's worth it for them.
It's not really complicated bro
