PS4 vertical with no stand

So in the UK there are no white vertical stands to go with the white PS4. But looking at my white one next to my black one with stand, it seems like if anything, the stand blocks more air intake than just leaving it off.

At launch people were talking about it blocking the vents, but there are not vents on the surface that would be touching the shelf, and there is a clear ridge for air to get in front/back into the vents.

Do any of you have your PS4s vertical without the stand? Any issues?

My friend has his PS4 vertical between book in his shelf. It's pretty cool as it won't move and you can hardly notice it's a console. He had no place to put it, it's clever

The trapezoid footprint of the PS4 makes it nearly impossible to wobble, let alone tip. I've had mine vertical for a year with no stand.

I kind of want one, though.... just to complete the look.

Nice idea!

I have one of our PS4 in vertical without standing and so far we didn't have any problem.

I was under the impression putting it vertical without a stand makes it block quite a substantial heat vent. What OP says does seem right though and it definitely doesn't feel like it would tip over easily.

No stability jokes yet?

I hope you have no kids or animals.

I've got two cats and my PS4 has been sitting vertically without a stand since launch, it's fine. Very stable.

Only problem with them and my systems is that 360 turns on too easily. They accidentally turn it on in every now and then.

I have mine set up vertically without a stand. Is it normal for it to be so loud when the disc drive spins up though? The whole table was vibrating from it.

I originally had mine horizontal but my setup lead me to put it beside my TV and the entertainment center bookshelf area. It was without a stand and was fine.

I now have a stand though and it looks a lot better. I got the rocket fish version from Best Buy (officially licensed).

I had it that way for 2 months or so after I bought it on launch but then I put horizontally since it was less noisy that way. I liked it vertically more though. Other than the noise It ran just fine.

No stand here. I've bumped into my entertainment stand on multiple occasions and luckily haven't tipped it over yet.

I've humored the idea, but didn't a Sony rep say before release that it is bad to use it vertically but that they're giving the option for options sake? I can't think of who it was.

I've had mine vertical without a stand since launch without issue. Maybe it'd be problematic if you have a cat who likes to knock things down otherwise nothing to worry about.

Yup, vertical without stand, no problems at all. That's not to say an earthquake couldn't tip it over, but it's very stable.

It pretty stable, but a lot of the air intake is coming from the slats in the side you plop it on. The official stand is hollow and has opening on each corner to direct air in toward the intakes.

After the heat and cooling problems last gen and hearing the fan tick up with TLOU and ISS, I'd advise against it as a long term solution.

Yep, I vertical. My theory was that the reduced horizontal surfaces would mean less dust on it. Dunno if that worked, but it doesn't seem to have done it any harm.

I was reading through some older threads. A gafer did a gravity (the debate about the heatsinks direction) and stand test. In his test putting the stand on was the only thing thsy blocked airflow and caused the fan to increase. Even horizontal.
