PS4 video capture simply doesn't work

Well... you should see my storage then. I have A LOT of videos there and I never used the "share" button except for curiosity one or two times.

so you're not going into the share menu at all? are they shorter than 15 min clips? if so i wonder if it auto-saves if you jump into the dmb during gameplay

No, I don't go to share menu. Once I entered to see how the system works and tried to edit a video, but never uploaded to Facebook. Then, I didn't go there again.

And I have videos of all sizes, because the system only record when you're playing and I suppose record stop if I go to home (for chatting or other things).

Yeah, I find that most of the time when I try to record a video, it has saved something from about 30 - 45 mins before and not the last 15 minutes once the share button is pressed. Hopefully this is something that they will fix in an upcoming patch as I would love to accurately share the last spontaneously awesome thing that has happened.

From my own expierience is that ever time I do something in battlefield I wanna upload I hit the share button to do so. Next thing I see is a thumbnail of what I wanted to upload but when I watch the video its not even close to what I did. I just manually record now.

Yep. Since recording the last 15 minutes also takes a screenshot, the thumbnail is always correct since it just uses the screenshot for the thumbnail (or so it seems)... but the video is way off. I usually have to try 3 or 4 times to get the actual last 15 minutes of gameplay.

Yes, of course it's still recording. The red light notification lets you know that it's just started.

It is, the red button is just a notification that the recording has started.

edit, beaten like a redhead.

Okay, I think I got it now, somewhat. The red recording sign should have been present at all times though just to make it easier to tell.

Also, they should let you know that you need to press the share button FIRMLY once to end recording.

worked fine for me when i tried it, played a mate in madden on line, after the game hit share and went in and found the highlight i was after, uploaded to facebook no sweat.

It works fine. Just double-tap the share button for when you want to start. Go to the menu when you're done.

The notification should differentiate between starting and stopping, though... that's one thing it lacks.

One other gripe I have is the loss of quality when uploading to Facebook. They seriously need an uncompressed YouTube upload option.

we shouldn't have to do this though. ps4 is supposedly always recording. single tap of the share button is supposed to (based on sony's own documentation of the feature) save the a clip of the last 15 minutes of gameplay whenever you go into the share menu.

seems to not work all the time. telling people to just do manual record doesn't help the people who lost gameplay video for the cool stuff that should have been recorded automatically :\

I am concerned reading this thread, this was a major feature described by Sony and it sounds like it doesnt work properly.

It feels disjointed at first. I prefer Xbox Record that and the share button for screen caps only. Anticipating the recoding makes it rough. I hope they flush out options in the future.

At least that is a work-around until it gets fixed. The only issue I've had is BF4 doesn't record sound.

Works every time for me, I just hit share then go back into my game and it always saves the previous 15 minutes of gameplay. I've only used it around a dozen times so far but it seems to be working fine for me.

Yes it does!

In fact, I must delete videos all the time because the system store them on the hard drive...

I actively avoid touching the share button now for this reason. Just so irritating to deal with deleting unwanted clips or photos.

This thread again. Well i already went over this in great detail before. Just know that yes the system is messed up, and its almost random. It seems to be working a bit more often now.

Just know this is not some uncommon thing, there is something wrong with the capture system that Sony needs to fix.

Stupid piece of crap, got a random 15 minute recording during my KZ play, I wanted to see the last match I played, got the one before it.

This really needs to be fixed.

Just happened to me in KZ... again. Never once did I tab out to the XMB during my time playing it from the time I started the game in case that was somehow supposed to stop the recording. I encountered a bug in KZ and wanted to share it so I hit share and see one video at 15 min with the right thumb... the video is from like an hour ago.

I've lost tons of battlefield moments because of this. The funny part is the video clip is always paired with the appropriate screenshot of when I took the video but the actual video itself is always a random 15 minute chunk of footage, usually ending with me sitting in the lobby or something.

It works as in it records 15 minutes but not always the last 15 min as it should be doing. So it's not working as intended.

Yeah, I've had this issue too where it seems to work if I start recording manually, but it's not automatically holding on to the last 15mins of gameplay if you don't start the manual record. I had missed a few cool things from Knack that I thought would be recorded but never were.

If Sony's aware of this, then we should get a fix in an upcoming update.

I read somewhere that rebuilding the database may help. I tried that this week, and my first attempt to share was inflicted with the same problem: I had a 15 min clip, it was just 15 mins from elsewhere in the session.

Since then, I've tried a couple more times and they worked perfectly. The only difference with these attempts is that I waited a few seconds for the preview video to appear in the little filmstrip. I think that gave the PS4 a chance to do whatever it does.

During Killzone, I was in the middle of a multiplayer match, I pressed Share and then quickly pressed O to get back to the game. I'm wondering if the video gets screwed up when you are in and out that fast.

Wish there was a way to split the capture of a single screenshot from the saving of the last 15 minutes of video. They seem like something completely unrelated to me.

In Assassin's Creed what op says (random 15 minutes capture which ends before the moment you press the share button) has happened frequently to me. In other games rarely.
I wonder if it depends on the game?
Still Sony has to optimize this function.
