PS4 will use 6 hours to download Peggle 2 (2.35 GB)

yeah hmmm. ever since TWC bumped up the speeds from 20mbps to 100mbps... ive been getting games in minutes off PSN... it seemed to me that PSN speeds were mostly dependent on your personal ISP.

No. I have 50 GB download on PSN, Open NAT,type 2. Takes minutes. (UK Fibre BT Home hub)

You need to optimise your router. (Google it)

1. Give the PS4 a fixed IP on your router using Ps4 custom connection via LAN

2. In this Ps4 custom connection Change the MTU to its optimum (me its 1492, google it)

Now do a Network test on your Ps4, if you do above right the test is MUCH QUICKER and you will have almost full speed download.

I've done that to my router as well in vain after searching for answers (and getting a new router. So far it remains the same. Edit: I have TWC and 50 down.

Mind you, at times it will creep back up to normal speeds for a minute, then go back and forth from fast to snail with snail taking most of it. Pausing and un pausing does not help. Tried rest mode when I downloaded PvZ and came back in the morning and it downloaded like 300 MB only.

I have no idea why all of a sudden it decided to move at such a slow pace.

I bought Peggle 2 this morning on PS4 (that sale price!) and it took me around 1 hour total to download the game and the update, each around 2.x gigs.

Oh shit, I didn't even know Peggle 2 was out on PS4, much less on sale. Thanks for the heads up.

edit: wow, "ready in 4 hours"

PS3 would max out my 101mbit connection. PS4 was fast until recently, now it fluctuates. I find pausing and resuming helps.

Yea can't figure it out. If I pause a download then resume it then it goes back to my normal speeds

I had this on PS3. For some reason it crawls to an almost complete stop after a short while.

I should be getting more than 200mbits but for some reason it is a lot slower overall on both xbl and psn.

I grabbed an ethernet cable and my PS4 download speeds went from ~1-2Mbps to ~15Mbps. Suffice to say I'd already spent 2 hours messing with the connection settings and my router, and have concluded that the PS4 just has shitty wi-fi. Bought a $5 cable and have had it wired ever since.

Im thinking it must be something wrong with my PS4. It took my Xbone less than 3 horus to download the Halo 5 MP beta, Steam used less than 2 hours on Max Payne 3 yesterday etc.

My PS4 download and upload speeds have been terrible lately. Took me around an hour to download a 2.5GB update for DC, and it takes me around twenty minutes for upload a small two-minute-long clip to YouTube. My download speeds keep fluctuating from full to around 200kbps. This never happened until recently. I used to get a constant speed.

I use a wired connection also.

People always complain about internet speed yet never use an ethernet cabe.

You can get 100ft for under $15 on amazon.

When psn speeds slow down to dialup speed, it doesn't make any difference. Like others say, pausing and starting it can work, other times i have to reset my PS4 every 10 minutes to keep good speeds constant. And i've tested download speeds on steam when i've had these issues just to make sure it was infact psn and not my connection.

That's PSN speeds for you.

It used to be decent a few months ago, and went to shit. We had a few threads on this already.

I bought this on sale too. My first thought was a 600 MB download; not 2.35 GB.

I don't do too bad with pre-orders. I've got a few 2015 titles ready for download once they get released. 300+ days till Uncharted 4 gets released, but the automatic download is ready.

Update: Downloaded while I was away. The first time you play Peggle is always the best.

Are you sure your Ps4 MTU setting is not too high, that really slows things down

What are your numbers when you do the PS4 network test ? - it should come up with nat type and speeds very quickly if set up well...

I am about 75 mb Optical but still get 50 down on Ps4 (must use LAN and manual LAN settings on Ps4)

People always don't optimise the MTU and set a good static IP address for the Ps4. Also on your Router set the ports to 'xboxlive' if it is an option - PS4 likes it as well and you will have OPEN NAT...

Just to chime in, I downloaded the Cold, Cold Heart DLC for Arkham Origins the other night (about 2GB) and it took only 12 minutes. have not been seeing any issues with PSN outside of the holiday DDoS attack. Signing in, messaging, and downloads seem to behave properly for me on both PS3 and PS4 and are processing without any delays. Using a DSL wired connection with an ethernet cable, Internet Connection Test on PS3 polls a 14.8mbps connection to PSN for downstream.

Both the PS4 and Xbox One download and install incredibly slowly for me. I bought Halo: The Master Chief Collection on new year's eve. It's still downloading and installing.

Before anybody mentions that it's like 30 gb - I download games of that size on steam all the time without problem.
Are you installing it from disk while downloading the update at the same time? It will take forever this way. It's better to disconnect the xbox from the internet, install the game from disk, then go online and download the update.

Sounds more like a problem on your end. I've never had trouble with PS4 download speeds even on modest networks.

However the bigger question is why Peggle 2 is that big. There isn't much to it. Game shave been bloating in size this generation, which is bad for hard drive size and download speeds.

I have 50 down and 5 up but it usually reads 11 down and 1.5 up. The Nat type and Speeds appear within 2-3 secs after doing the test. Except it doesn't even download at those speeds at times...lucky to download 1MB every 2 minutes.

Usually PSN maxes out my connection but recently I've had a few times where it went super slow when idling on the OS. I found that booting up a game or some other application caused it to speed back up to normal. Speed kept up after quitting as well.

Anyone remember the talk about zombie PC's and routers DDOS'ing? Maybe OP is sending traffic clogging his tubes!

If you're using wifi, you might be having signal issues OP. Wifi on PS3/PS4 isn't always the best on top of normal issues always present with any wireless device. General rule: if you are MP gaming on wifi or a mobile hot spot, you're gonna have a bad time.

Try connecting it directly to your router wired first, and if you still have problems try the modem directly. Still have problems, it's most likely your ISP's peering to the PSN network.

I use an ethernet cable in to my PS4, which itself measures my speeds at 25-30 mbps down depending on the day, and I agree, downloads have definitely gotten slower lately. I noticed it at the beginning of November, but I think it's only getting worse.

I usually download 6-8MBps, but when I was downloading the Metro games from the Holiday sale two or so days before Christmas it was only going like 500KBps to 1.5MBps and it was AWFUL. Haven't downloaded anything else since.

I've had the same experience with slow PSN downloads, I'm lucky to get 5Mbit on PSN but steam and xbox live max out my 10Mbit connection.

The guys I play with have the same problem and usually have to let even small games download overnight.

my issue is not as big as op...but I have 100 download speed and my average speed test on my pc always puts it over 100. On my ps4 the built in speed test says I get 30...but if I do a test with ps4 browser it says I get 60. My downloads on the other hand are all over the place. On my pc and xbox one I get solid speed that downloads about what 100 download speed would be. On my ps4 it just jumps around. I have downloaded a game on my ps4 that seemed to be about as fast as 100 would be, and then the next download will go at a snails pace. I have never been able to figure it out.

Yea can't figure it out. If I pause a download then resume it then it goes back to my normal speeds

This is my experience - it varies wildly and sometimes pausing it for 10 seconds and restarting results in a huge increase in speed. I should really put a monitor on there and see which IP it connects to for each attempt, it might be something crazy like getting sent to the wrong server based on location.

I get nice download speeds with Verizon FiOS, but last night I couldn't connect to Driveclub or PvZ Garden Warfare servers. I thought the PSN issues were over but apparently not. If I weren't amassing so many free games on PS+ I'd be even more pissed.

psn tends to go slow without reason a lot of the time for me, even when nothing else in the house is using bandwidth.

in any case, downloads go over CDN, not PSN... CDN is Akamai, most expensive one in the business... being slow means slow connection to the Akamai, and could not have anything to do with hacks or new firmware.

Problem's on your end most likely. I say this because I downloaded peggle 2 when it was on sale (still is?) a couple days ago in what must have been half an hour.

Downloaded Battlefield 4 premium the other day and it's around 70GB with all the addons iirc and only took around 1.5 hours

people who complain about ps4 being slow using wi-fi need to switch to being wired, it's speeds wireless are an insane knock off.

The Xbox One though I've been using the 5Ghz signal and am getting maybe a 1Mb/s different wireless compared to wired......I've been very happy with that console's wireless capabilities. HOWEVER, The physical install times on the Xbox One are atrocious compared to the PS4's.....so its either play the game faster and download the patch later.......or install the patch while installing the disc insanely slow XD.

Hit and miss.......but overall both consoles have been relatively the same for me.

But I've noticed some possible throttling on Comcast's ISP, I could pause and resume a download watch it hit max for about 5 seconds and just drop instantly to low download speeds. I switched my DNS settings and haven't had an issue since, but using the default DNS settings SSSUUCCKKKEEEDDD.

A lot of these problems are on the PSN side. I have gigabit down and up fibre Internet. Speedtest using Ethernet direct into my modem gives me 900+down and up. Same thing through my router drops about 100-200. Now with my ps4 directly wired into either it shows 60down/60up. I've messed with every setting possible and put my ps4 in DMZ. Nothing changes. I can start a download that goes around 20mb/s and it will slow too 500kbs for a few seconds before spiking again.
