PS4 won't stop ejecting discs!

I've posted in other threads related to this issue but haven't had an answer. My girlfriend's PS4 won't stop ejecting discs and I'm trying my best to fix it so she doesn't have to send it to Sony. I temporarily fixed it months ago but it seems like the issue has come back full force.

I have...

- Checked the rubber feet and it seems like there is a noticeable gap between the eject button and the middle rubber foot.

- Unplugged the PS4 from anywhere from Sony's suggested three minutes to ten hours and it still persists.

- Attempted to tighten the manual eject screw. It doesn't seem to tighten at all but I did rotate it clockwise a few times.

Is there anything else I'm missing I could try? About the manual eject screw, should it tighten at all? Also, will the new PS4s have manual buttons as opposed to it being touch sensitive? Beyond frustrated trying to deal with this.

Update: I've got it working after six tries of running through numerous "fixes". It's only a matter of time before it does it again but I'm going to try to get her to send it in before her warranty expires. Good luck to anyone who has the issue.

Anecdotal. But, my friend had the same issue. He called customer service and they told him he would have to send it in. It is out of warranty (he bought it at launch) and they wanted over $200 for a repair.

Time to send it in for repairs. Same thing happened to mine, the process is simple and quick. It is also free of charge (if you are still under warranty) and it'll solve your problem. It solved mine at least, it's been well over 8 months now since I sent mine in and it never happened again.

She should be under warranty but I'm hoping she still has proof of it somewhere. She'd rather not but it's looking like that's going to happen. I have a few friends who have the issue but they've managed to put off returning it by unplugging it every so often. It's beyond me why this issue exists.

Happened to me and I tried several things that Sony support told me to try. Worked for a couple of weeks but I ended up having to send it in.

Quoting myself from another thread, hopefully this helps:

The only permanent solution I found for this was to open up the console itself and disable the eject contact by covering it up with a piece of tape. Renders the physical button useless, but since you can eject discs through the menu that's pretty much moot. Very simple to do, you just need a torx T9 screwdriver (or equivalent tool) to open up the system. Yank the bottom half off, cover up the very small gold plate at the front, and you will never hear that awful beep again

This video shows the general process. The guy talks about scratching the gold contact, but I suspect that's just discharging the static that's causing the problem, meaning the issue could come back. Better to just disable it and be done with it, imo.

The consensus seems to be to send it in. I'll talk to her about it when she gets home. I do want to know if that screw can even tighten though, if anyone can answer that.

I'll look into it, thanks. Doubt she'll want me doing that but it's an idea.

Mine does this too, about once a week.

I've removed the rubber foot entirely and keep the console suspended using disc cases and that still doesn't prevent the problem. Just did the screw thing a few days ago so I'm waiting to see if it's going to happen again.

Exact same thing happened to me. I ended up just getting it replaced since it was still in warranty and nothing else seemed to fix the problem for more than quarter of an hour.

From my experience, the screw doesn't tighten.

I had the same thing, tried every option the internet gave me, but nothing worked. Even during Netflix is was beeping en grinding.

Luckily in Europe we have standard 2 years warranty. Got a replacement.

I don't know if your PS4 has the exact same problem as mine but I've found that actually tilting the console upwards (grabbing the face of the console and tilting it up) while it begins reading the disc is what fixes my problem and stops it from ejecting. Not a permanent solution but it works for me until I decide to get a new one.

I had this happen to me too. I didn't mess around with the rubber thing too much but I did unplug the power cord and wait and it did work, but I'm not sure if that was entirely the solution. My makeshift solution was to lean the front of the ps4 over the edge of my tv stand just a little so in the chance that my eject button was being sensitive again at least the bottom of the button wasn't accidentally touching anything

Have the same issue here and it's caused me to avoid playing FFX HD recently. Pretty crappy stuff.

Luckily I have an XB1 beside it, and reasonably fast internet with no cap so I can download the releases that I want to play on PS4 without issue.

It continued to try to eject even upwards but never tried while it was reading. Even so, when I'd plug the console in it would attempt to eject as soon as it had power.

I thought about trying that with some cases or over the edge as you've done but I'm sure that would drive her up the wall with how it looks, haha. Maybe in the mean time while we wait for a box to ship it.

I had the same problem, then this showed up on the screen.

Once I complied my PS4 started accepting discs.

Would be interesting to know what happens if you send your PS4 in for repair and it has a 2TB HDD inside it (swapped the old 500GB HDD). If they replace it, are they going to keep the 2TB HDD? And you simply get an ordinary 500GB PS4? Would suck :P

Mine does the same sometimes. Shut down console, unplug from console and outlet, clean eject sensor. Plug into different outlet if possible. This works for me.

Although sounds like you've looked at the button situation, mine was doing the same thing.

I pulled the system forward so that it overhung the shelf by a half inch.

Never ejected a disc again. Something about the touch sensitivity of those front panel buttons and my shelf didn't get along.

Depends. If they swap it out, then you're probably screwed. Personally, I would never send my 2TB in the system. Send the original imo

I've had this problem and tried all the fixes.
The one that finally worked is the "scratch the gold plate" fix. It has to do with static electric buildup or something...but yeah I voided my warranty but its been doing great last 6 months.

the "tighten the screw" workaround seems to have done the trick for me after trying everything else

Other things I tried that only worked temporarily:

-put rubber feet underneath
-trim the rubber piece near the eject button
-remove the rubber piece entirely

I've had the same problem since launch. :(
It comes and goes. Only if hing I found t Maori for long periods of time was to unplug the power.

Mine sometimes stops reading discs, or tries to eject one that isn't in there. I can fix it by shutting it down, removing all the leads then holding the power button. If it beeps, hold it down again until it doesn't beep.

Strangely discharging that tiny bit of power seems to do the trick.

Maybe it's not hungry?

I'm sorry I have nothing to add, but as a Sony fanboy I'm not too happy with the build quality problems the PS4 and DS4 have. I hope newer revisions will be better.

Exact same issue as OP. Moving the rubber foot fixed it for months, but it seems to be back. Couple nights ago it started doing it and holy shit it would detect my finger literally an inch from touching it every single time. Thought I was crazy when it seemed to be reacting to me not touching it, but I spent a couple minutes testing it out and 100% certain it was reacting to me. I'm sure there are technical people out there that could explain this. Something to do with a lack of grounding or a charge in the air or something.

Mine would not stop ejecting imaginary discs. Sent it for repair. They replaced the ejection spring, and it now works flawlessly. Received the console back within a week too. Very satisfied with the service.

The screw thing fixed it for me, almost a year without the issue reappearing now. Also fixed my colleagues when he bought it in for me to look at.

It doesn't look like she has a receipt, would they be able to do anything with the box which has the serial number? She bought it from Best Buy so there might be a digital receipt.

She should send it soon but she doesn't want to download all her games again and would rather wait for the new PS4 models. I think the new Arkham Knight bundle has the new model but not sure. I'm pretty sure the Limited Edition Bundle does but not sure on the regular bundle. It's looking like she's just going to deal with it if it doesn't act up again.

In any case, we did some more fiddling around. I've had it unplugged since 11PM last night and unplugged all the other wires as well. We just did the screw bit again and then took a microfiber cloth to clean the eject sensor a bit more since it seemed like there was a spot of dust way underneath. We have the console horizontal but stood up on some PS3 cases (Dead or Alive 5 and uDraw). So far it hasn't beeped at us so we'll see.

Used to happen to mine all the time but hasn't occurred again in about a year. I cleaned the eject button area. Tightened the screws and unplugged it and left it on its side for an hour. Haven't had the issue since.

This has happened to me twice. Once last year and once this year (so far). First time it happened I just turned off PS4 and unplugged it and left it like that for a while. 2nd time this year, I removed the plastic footing below the eject button, and that fixed it.

A shame that this is a common problem. Hoping for mine to not do this since the warranty has ended for it. I hope your issue gets resolved OP.

Does the Xbox One have any annoying problems like this? I know some units had a disc tray issue at launch but haven't heard about anything else since then.

Hold in the power button and don't let go until the machine turn off completely. Should beep at least twice in the process. This will fix it.

They never asked me for a receipt (Sweden). All they wanted was the serial number.
